"Listen," Emerwyn said, seeing through his attempts to hide his tears. She took his hand in hers. "Thank you. But, we don't need to be reminded of these things. It is sad, what has happened to us. But, I don't want what has happened to me to happen to anyone else, to you." He other hand lifted his chin gently and looked at him sincerely. "Our life here is not our own. We have lost everything we knew, but... We're still here. And we need to try our best; they haven't destroyed you yet. And I don't mean your body. And you're not the only one. Please, don't lost hope."
Like I did.

"But the longer I try to keep my hopes up, the worse it'll be when I lose hope?" Avery murmured quietly, raising his eyes to look into hers. "It's so hard... I mean, now that Rex changed, it's just like - everything is final. All I can do is try to ignore it, and not think about it." It was the only way Avery could think of to keep up his mood - ignoring the problem.

Emerwyn sighed. "There is no way to hide from our fate. There is no way to fight it."
Emerwyn could see where this was going... She was trying to convince this young man of something she didn't herself believe.
But... If she didn't say the right thing, she'd be hurting someone again.
"And, I cannot lie to you, Avery. I... don't believe that there is any way to fight our fate. We have lost, and I can not be more sorry that you have found yourself here. I look at you, and I see a life stolen. You are so young, and so full of life. You have so much time to love..."
She dropped her hands. She had said it all.

"Love?" Avery looked a little surprised. Love - let alone relationships - had never even crossed his mind since he got on the island. "Well... I don't plan on letting these guys get to me..." he took a deep breath. "No way. And no one else, either! From now on, I'm gonna be happy. No matter what happens." He reached out and grabbed both of her hands in his. "That means you too. You gotta smile!"

Emerwyn was dumbstruck. But, pleasantly surprised. Her words had had the opposite effect on Avery than she had expected.
For a moment, she could only look at him, her mouth opened slightly. Then, completely in spite of herself, she smiled at him.
"Thank you, Avery," she whispered.

"No need to thank me!" Avery said, and he gave her a tight hug. "We can baffle the dear doctors by being cheerful. I'm sure they won't like that one bit!" he grinned. "I can't do it alone though. You'll help me out though, right?"
He was determined to stay happy, now. If he was happy, then he wouldn't bring down the others around him either.

"I really admire you, Avery. I really do." She closed her eyes in the friendly embrace, and returned it.
But now, it was time to move on.
"Fare you well. I only hope that I can find in myself what keeps you so strong."

"I'm sure you will, Emer! And if you ever need any help finding it, then you can just come to me," he offered, still smiling at her. "I'm in duplex 32. I'll see you later! I've got some things to do." Avery waved and then he headed off back towards the duplexes.

Emerwyn smiled as he departed. What did keep Avery so strong, so optimistic? It was something she must have had, once. For it was once she who had inspired hope in others. Once, perhaps upon a dream, Emerwyn had room in her heart to hope for others when they had lost it.
"Once upon a dream..."
end.

New RP
Billy had left his meeting with Awen feeling twitchy and irritable. He didn't feel like going back to the villiage just yet, veering off on the paths to head into the jungle. The shade and moisture in the air kept down by the tall trees felt better than the more direct sun on the beach, especially after his refreshing soak, no matter how short it had been. His tentacles now lay tucked in his shirt once again. No need to keep them flailing about for everyone to stare at, right?

Bobby was getting used to her little day trips outdoors. She would wake up, go to the cafeteria and make some meals, and then go out. Today was no different, really. She had packed a large caesar salad, salmon sandwich, chips, cream for dessert, and -of course- a variety of fruit.
She was walking through the jungle, humming a jazzy tune, when she heard someone else crashing through the paths. Not thinking anything of it, Bobby stayed on her course... if the two of them met, well, she'd deal with that when it happened. Usually, she was alone on these little excursions of hers.

Billy was so lost in his thoughts, still not used to so many limbs, even if they were held still and had to concentrate on his footsteps that he didn't hear Bobby approach at first. When the sounds of movement grew closer, though, he idly turned to glance over his shoulder. He really didn't feel like meeting anyone just then.

It must have been the echoing in the trees that caused Billy to look over his shoulder, because just as he did, Bobby turned the path and the two were face-to-face. At first, the woman didn't see the man's face, but when he did... her face contorted in a look out outright rage and hatred as she froze.
It was HIM! In that instant, the entire incident played in her mind. She remembered getting the call over the radio; the time when she and her partner, John, gave chase to the criminal; John shot, dying in her arms; getting buried and knocked unconscious on the boat; and ending up on this God-forsaken Island! He was the reason she was here, the reason she would never be able to even see her family again.
Bobby's lip curled in a snarl, "YOU!" It was too bad he was still too far away for her to reach him.

While Billy didn't get a chance to see who was behind him, the sudden cry of "you!" was enough to let his criminal instincts take hold. He turned on his shaky, still weak legs and ran, ran as fast as he could.

Bobby kicked herself for being so dumb! Of course if she called out he would run... he did last time. She was quick to react. The woman was off in a flash. Because of her recent outdoors-y time and excersing, Bobby was back in shape... not like she had really gotten out of shape.
Soon enough, Bobby was gaining on Billy, who was still a little tipsy from his transformation... but it wasn't quick enough. Bobby wanted him NOW. Reaching into her bag, the woman pulled out the first thing that her hand touched, which just so happened to be a tomato that Ian had given her a few days ago. It was perfect: round, red, and juicy.
Reluctantly, the woman threw the tomato at Billy. Her aim hadn't gotten any worse from her time on the island. The tomato connected with Billy with a very satisfying, squishy... *thud*
