Okay, so Jeff knows this teen who wants to get on SL. The kid tries to register but is unable to because they require a cellphone number to verify that it's him.
1. CELLPHONE? Anyone can be called and respond with, " Yes, I'm [name]. " and the people would never know. Further, what if you don't have one?
2. Who the Hell has to verify that they are NOT an adult?

Well, Jeff just now told me this is 3rd-hand news, so his friend may be reading something wrong.
But still, from the sounds of it an email alone isn't cutting it, which is BS because I gave a spam email AND claimed to be an adult and got on without any questions.

i don't understand the need for a cellphone to apply for something, that's pretty lame. are they going to ask for a SSN, birthdate, eye color, checking account and a birth certificate as well? thats just weird
