Favorite Song to Play: At the college I transferred from, I'd say it's a tie between two symphonic pieces. One was Poet and the Peasant. Even though I was mainly on the crash cymbal for that song, it was extremely fun to play and sounded great. (despite the ending, which the director had a horrible habit of speeding up, liked to have killed my poor arms). The other was a symphonic arrangement of The Doors music. I was on keyboards for that one, it was an absolute blast.

Any other Additional Info: I discovered band a little later than I would have liked (senior year of high school). I knew band EXISTED, but I never knew anything more of it than I hear this annoying beeping sound during my lunch break (which I now know was a metronome) and that during my colorguard practices in JROTC, the band was always out on the parking lot while we were out back, or in another parking lot (though I had no idea why). My senior year, some of my friends who were in the band got me to come to a few football games to see the show, I started hanging out with the band more, helped them out with carrying some equipment at some practices and such, and thus became a roadie and accompanied them to regionals and experienced my first marching band competition. It was a great time, I loved every bit of it, and it was also the first year they'd went to state, so it was a great experience for everyone.

After pestering the band director for a few weeks after the end of the season, some of the band kids talked him into starting the school's ever indoor percussion line. I figured I'd give it a shot, I was obviously interested despite never having played anything in my life, and wound up on 3rd bass. Only thing that I had was a basic sense of rhythm (which I realise I've always had, it just hadn't been refined yet) and my JROTC style of marching to help me out. From there, I had to learn the band style of marching (probably harder for me, breaking old habits is harder than learning something from scratch sometimes), how to read my music, and how to play a bass drum...in a month or two. We ended up with a pretty good bass line, even though we never went anywhere to compete. Regardless, it was a blast.

After that, I was in my first college's band program, which was just pep band and symphonic band (WAY small college, so they don't march) and continued to be a roadie for my highschool band for a couple of years. Now that I've transferred to the University of Kentucky, I've got things lined out so I'll be SOMEWHERE on the drumline this fall (they do placements in "early week" as they call it, but it's really band camp) so um...I'm really excited about finally getting to march and have something to show for it.
