The closer they got to the music, the more excited Maria felt. Music from her own cultural background always had this type of effect on her. When they got close, her eyes widened as she could distinctly hear the addictive rhythm of Flamenco dancing, a dance that was one of her aunt's favorites. She watched as the group told a story with their arms and body. This was her first time seeing a live performance, usually seeing recordings from old movies or the internet.
She got of the bike and moved closer, her eyes lighting up. By the time she got close enough, the song was drawing to an end and the small crowd applauded. She hoped that they weren't coming to an end, especially not after she found it. Soon, they started play another tune, this time switching into a salsa beat. Some of the younger kids were dancing and Maria felt her feet tapping to the beat. With a huge grin, she walked over to Dimitri and her smile grew, holding her hand out. "Wanna dance with me, Dimitri?"

"Don't worry, Dimitri," Maria said with a smile, pulling him gently towards the crowd, "I'll do my best to teach you." Everywhere around them, couples started to join along in the dance, some very well experienced and others not so. Despite some people's level of expertise, everyone was having fun which was the most important part of the entire thing.
Maria instructed Dimitri on how exactly to move his body, telling him that he had to feel the rhythm in his bones. She showed him simple basic steps that she hoped he could follow along with. With a few more simple moves, she stepped back and smiled at Dimitri. "You ready, chico?"

Dimitri looked down, watching Maria's hands and feet as she instructed him in the dance. He felt like a clumsy string bean with two left feet. He cleared his throat uncertainly, committing every one of her movements to memory. The young man took a deep breath, looking her in the eyes, his nervousness probably showing. "Yeah, yeah I'm ready." He said with a slightly faltering smile, slow dancing, like at the harvest dance was one thing, the Salsa was completely different.
Dimitri slowly started to follow her movements in the dance, every so often he forgot what she had showed him and had to trip over his feet until he found his spot in the dance again. Slowly, but surely he began to pick up on it, feeling the rhythm of the dance.

Maria was definitely patient with him as Dimitri struggled learning the steps. She made sure to go as slow as she possibly could. She saw the nervous look in his eyes and offered him an encouraging smile. When he was ready to officially begin, she nodded and slowly started another salsa dance, making sure not to speed up until he felt completely ready.
They started off slow, not that Maria minded much. She was more concerned about Dimitri having a set control of his footing before even thinking about speeding up. When she noticed that he was starting to get used to the moves, Maria smiled and sped herself up just a little bit. "Gran trabajo, Dimitri!" Maria exclaimed happily in Spanish before giggling, "And before you get confused, I said "Great job, Dimitri!" in Spanish." She didn't say anything for a few more beats, getting lost in the music. It was almost like she was in another world. Looking up at Dimitri again, she caught his eyes and smiled flirtatiously at him, "Don't loose me, lover boy."

Maria giggled as he spun her around. She still couldn't help but feel surprised at how quickly Dimitri caught up and was able to follow her movements. She wondered how he would feel if she taught him other Hispanic dances and hoped that he'd enjoy it. Something about how he responded to her made her heart leap, and again the possibility of their relationship evolving registered in her mind. Her smile grew and she had never felt that happy before.
Soon everything around her didn't seem to matter. All that was present was the sweet sound of salsa music, herself, and Dimitri. She was barely aware on how the other spectators seemed to be focusing somewhat more on them as they danced. There was also no doubt that Maria was somewhat good at salsa dancing, probably her favorite kind of Hispanic dance. But it didn't matter to her what the other spectators thought, she only cared about the bright smile on Dimitri's face, which complimented him so much, making him look more handsome than before. I really think I'm falling in love with him, Maria thought with a dreamy smile, realizing that she never wanted the music to end.

Eventually, the song came to a close, and as it did so, Maria slowed down her steps until she came to a complete stop. She smiled breathlessly at Dimitri, heart racing and a very faint blush on her cheeks. Before she could say anything to him, she was surprised by the sudden clapping from all the spectators who had watched them dance. She looked back at them with a shy smile and did a light bow. After some time, she looked up at Dimitri and smiled warmly at him. "You were fantastic, Dimitri," Maria said happily, "You may have been the best salsa partner a girl could ask for."

"Really?" Dimitri asked, looking over at her and trying to catch his breath, he had almost forgotten how long they had been dancing. And then Maria smiled and Dimitri forgot how to breath. A small smile touched his lips and he tried to remember before he went blue.
Dimitri took in a deep breath, feeling the sweet warm air fill his lungs. "Well then..." He said softly, his fingers twitching at his side as he resisted the urge to touch her face. "We'll...we'll just have to do this again some time." He said. Unable to help himself, he reach out, brushing back a piece of her hair that he slid stray while they where dancing. He tucked it gently behind her ear, his pale fingers lingering on the side of her flushed face. Dimitri swore he had gotten lost of a second because after he touched her, he couldn't remember anything besides her face.
Dimitri swallowed uncertainly, slowing letting his hand slid back down to his side. He smiled slightly at her, not entirely sure what to say. He hoped he wasn't getting in to deep here. After all, he had just told Kedrick the other night that he intended to never tell Maria about him, but now, now that she was here, so close, he wanted nothing more than to take her aside from all these people and let her into his circle of confidence. She already seemed to guess that there was something screwy with his story, wouldn't it be easier just to let her in? Dimitri licked his lips uncertainly, 'no...no that's a bad idea...' He told himself, looking at the ground. 'She seems understanding now, but let one thing slip about that and she'll leave you so fast you wouldn't have time to blink.'

Maria nodded excitedly, still excited from the dance and just a little bit from the applause they had gotten. She felt like she would be lost in his smile, so small, so gentle, so...perfect. If only the dance could've lasted forever, she thought, Then it would be such a wonderful dream, especially with him smiling the entire time.
She nodded in agreement, already looking forward to the next time they would dance again. The band had mentioned playing two more numbers before the day was over and soon the alluring rhythm of Hispanic music played again. However, she wasn't able to be hypnotized by it that time because something else more magical caught her attention. She felt Dimitri's fingers on her face and then everything else just seemed to disappear. Even though he was just pushing some loose hair back, her stomach did somersaults, her heart raced, and her cheeks had a more noticeable flush that time. She wanted to hold his hands and just stay there like that, but her body felt completely frozen.
Reality returned slowly as his hand moved away from her face. She found herself smiling back at him, but also feeling at a loss for words. It was like her brain was just in pause. She felt something was wrong when he looked at the ground and immediately she wanted to know why. He was so happy before and then something made him upset. She laid her hand gently on his arm and titled his head up with her other so that he could look at her. "Dimitri," she started, her voice somewhat surprisingly quiet, her concern obviously noticeable, "Is there something troubling you?"

Maria waited patiently for Dimitri to respond, trying to wonder if she had done something wrong unknowingly or if he was starting to feel sick. When he looked back at her with a smile, she felt a bit relieved, glad to know she didn't have to worry so much. She felt like her breath was taken away as Dimitri took her hands and kissed them gently. Her cheeks flushed and she had to resist every urge in her body to swoon like a lovesick girl. She nodded in agreement before smiling gently, "Well, there shall always be other times to dance, trust me," Maria said, feeling very optimistic about what she had said.
An urge to hold on to his fingers came over her just as he was slipping his fingers away from hers. Again, it felt like the world she was on with him had slowly faded away, which was something she didn't want. When he asked her what she wanted to do, she knew she would have readily said stay and listened to some more music, but she remembered she had a lot of homework to get done. Homework seems so irrelevant to the person standing before me know, she thought before making her decision. "Well, as much as I hate to say this," Maria started with a sigh, "I actually have a lot of homework to get done and start working on this big essay. So... I guess my home then."

Dimitri smiled slightly, a little wistfully. "Well...if you have too." He teased lightly, walking back to were his bike still sat. He straddled the seat as he had done many times that day, leaning back slightly and placing his hands on the hollow aluminum skeleton of the bike itself. He rested his weight on his hands, looking over at Maria. "I suppose it would be best for me to get you back home before it gets to close to the dinner hour..." He frowned slightly, and then he smile again. "Have we decided weather or not I'm allowed to see your house or am I still dropping you off at the end of the street?" He asked playfully, a coy smirk on his lips.
In a way, he almost wished he could drop her off before they got to her house, after all, he didn't think he would be able to meet her father yet. He wasn't quite ready for that yet, but he didn't let the thought truly bother him.
