"Good," Cody nodded in understanding. "I just want to go home, eat, and watch movies." And eat some more. Now that he was awake, he felt like there was a huge void in his stomach.
"Don't want you to." Cody took hold of Toby's hand. "Thank you," he said. "Thank you so much."

Toby took Cody's hand, smiled, and shook it with a little bow of the head. Good. So the kid wasn't regretting it. At least not yet. "You're welcome."
"Do you mind if we start the questions while you work?" Lori asked the nurse. She shook her head, pouted her lower lip, and waved a hand dismissively. She murmured something that sounded like "go right ahead" and so the questioning began.

Cody answered the questions: he felt fine, yes, yes, and yes. He informed them that he was starving. He'd released Toby's hand and taken Dari's with both of his instead.
"Let's go home," he said.

Dari nodded. He had been working overnights for four and a half days now. He was in for some serious overtime and had been offered a day or two off after Cody had recovered. He lifted Cody's hands to kiss them and then released them to grab his book. Huh. Well at least he couldn't lose his place. He set it on the side table and went to retrieve the clothes that Cody had arrived in,
"Alright, I think that's it," Lori said, "If we need anything else, I'll call. Tomorrow. Or the day after." He didn't want to bother the pair.
Toby nodded. "You two have fun. I'll see you guys later."
The nurse had since disappeared. Toby and Lori waved almost simultaneously and left.

Cody got out of bed and went to get dressed. He seemed a bit hurried when he returned, but he was smiling as he took Dari's hand.
"Let's go buy every kind of sweet that Asian place has," Cody said. "Everything. I'm starved."

The men had since left to offer Cody some privacy while he changed. Lori had assured Cody that the hunger was normal in the first few days awake (especially after nearly a week unconscious and unfed) but as long as it wasn't for raw meat or children he would be fine.
"We can do whatever we like," Dari said. "I'm off at least for the rest of today and tomorrow, if you want me. I don't know if you want to go back to work right away...?"

"After five days unconscious?" Cody shook his head. "No, I wouldn't know where to begin. I'll go back Monday." He kissed Dari's cheek. "I say we order three pizzas, go to the Asian marketplace, and go home."

"Why don't we go to the Asian market, go home, and then order three pizzas for delivery?" Boy, he was going to have to purge like heck after this! "That way we can get right to eating." and snuggling.

What Dari said was reasonable. Cody nodded. "Sounds good," he agreed. "We can watch a few movies, too." And cuddle. And just enjoy each other's company. "I'm sorry if I scared you, last time I woke up," he said.

"Nah, it's alright. I'm just glad you didn't have to deal with it for too long." In that case, Dari had been hoping that Cody would conk back out.
"Alright, come on." He reached out for Cody as if to carry him, rethought this, and crouched so Cody could climb up his back. HQ had remarkably high ceilings, for obvious reasons.

Cody was surprised. He blinked, then climbed on. "I can walk, you know," he teased. "But I think I better let you drive." It was Dari's car, after all.

"Of course I know," Dari said, "but I get hugs early this way." He was still in uniform but didn't seem to care any more. Anyone in HQ who didn't know what had gone on wouldn't be the type to care anyway.
He grabbed his keys and his book and headed for the parking lot. Two men piggy-backing outside of an orange grove was probably weird, but nobody was ever watching. He crouched again to let Cody off by the car.

Cody climbed off and turned to kiss Dari's cheek. "Ready?" He asked. "What do you want to do today?"

"I don't even care. We should do something at night, though, so you can use your new eyes." His biology has changed rather drastically. "Maybe we should go to the park so you can use your new nose too. Well. New sense of smell." He opened the door for Cody and then went around his own side to slip in.

When Dari climbed in, Cody was still struggling to respond to what he'd said. "New eyes?" He asked. Something at night? Like...what? "Let's go to the park," he agreed. "We could go to our mountain again, too," he offered. They hadn't been for a while. "The fall colors are beautiful up there."
