The vampire nodded his assent, and waved them off. He then turned to Hakan. "Oh, right... sorry, I quite forgot." He handed the demon the dagger, and turned back to Bertram. "My god, Bertie... everyone's being so ridiculous today! I mean, first this fine young gentleman," he indicates Hakan, "tried to challenge me to a fight and answered the unanswerable riddle..."

"You mean the one that has the answer of 'e', master?" Bertram asked, distractedly.

Duellist turned pale. "Great scott! Even you know the answer!... ah well. Where was I?"

"Telling me about how ridiculous everyone's been today, master." The wraith answered, promptly.

The vampire nodded. "Taryn spent her entire waking time insulting us both because some strange monster had taken control of her..." he brushed away a tear that came at the mention of that. He refused to accept the existence of another Taryn inside the body of his beloved. Even though he had sealed it in there. Life's funny like that. "Midori cruelly broke your heart... I'll have a word with you about that later, Bertram... and when I talk to those two children, the little girl acts like I'm some sort of scary monster!"

Bertram coughed. "But you are a scary monster..."

"...you know what I meant. Anyway, when I punished Midori by forcing her to spend all of tomorrow as a normal girl..."

Bertram suddenly crushed the glass in his hand and threw it on the ground. The wraith didn't even explain his actions before fading out. 'He didn't have to do that...'

The assassin had been having a very bad day.

Happy with finally getting the object he'd been waiting hours for, he would grin and walk away quickly tossing the sharp object up and down. Did he really plan on using it as a weapon? No. He'd spend this night trying to figure out how to drain the powers inside from the dagger, and into his own body. How did he plan on doing that? Well, first he'd naturally ask Duellist. After all, the vampire had to have had the object for a rather long time. "Tell me, how can I get the power out of the dagger, and inside of me?"

"How do you do the who with the what now?" The vampire asked, confused. "Look, if I could have done that, don't you think I would have? Sorry, fledgeling. You're on your own." He looked outside. The moon was finally setting. "Let me know how that works for you tomorrow night..." He gave a half-bow, and faded out.

The normal coffin was closed, and Duellist didn't want to awake Taryn. Sighing, he switched to bat-form and perched upside down on the ceiling, and drifted off to sleep...

Outside, the parklights slowly dimmed as the generator-wraith managed to turn them off. 'Of all the inconsiderate...'

Bertram, however, had no intention of sleeping. He was studying one of the master's spellbooks, looking for a way to reverse the spell the master had cast on Midori.

After all, he had been ordered not to love Midori. He could still like her.

The kids didn't even wait... or at least Teddy didn't. He was already dragging his sister out the door when she finally started moving, and that didn't happen until Duellist had dismissed them.

As they scampered off, only the soft padding on their shoes could be heard, as well as the sniffling and moaning on Elly's part as Teddy questioned her about Pa.
