As I see it, the most terrifying wargear kit on a Necron Lord is the Phylactery/Res Orb combo. What's that? You cone back to life with three wounds?

Faaaaaack. Though, there are some things that help balance it. Tomb Spyders are Monstrous Creatures, so they can be sniped down early in the game.

That's true, but then they have those beautiful power claws, your armour save dice can go f*ck themselves all the way back to the dice tin!

We were alone and on our own, in the dark between the stars
From the shadows to the pyre, amidst the chaos, from the stars
Love, life and liberty, Hate, death and captivity
Like a stain of starless darkness, across the canvas of space

@ CasaNova: Yeah, normally. ^^ But to be honest, I piss my friend off by taking out everything that has the Necron special rule first. Get those guys down to 25% and you suddenly win the game no matter what. Pisses him off when his monolith does nothing to save an entire unit of Necron Warriors from all falling in a single assault phase. biggrin

@ Caleidah: Phylactery is annoying, but it's balanced that you still have to make a WBB roll anyways, so there's still a chance that it'll just be dead. And yeah, Spyders are nice for that. ^^ Though I tend to find that the Veil of Darkness can be a major pain if it's done right.

Ugh...I can see how Veil of Darkness could be a MAJOR pain in the a**, especially if the Lord in question was attached to Immortals or was given a Destroyer Body and hooked up to a unit of Destroyers. Ugh...that s**t would be crazy as hell to try and kill.

To be honest i actually forget about the 25% rule alot XD
only one of my friends plays with them and he usualy takes a lord with res' orb and a monolith to get as much res as he can. after that he tries taking as many destroyers as possible

Aaaargh.
Nightbringer again!
Ffs, I need a quick way to kill him before he actually gets into my men.
Any one know the quickest way to kill the Nightbringer with Daemons, Space Marines or Gray Knights?

Sniper. Rifles. Take a scout squad with Telion and have them rain hell down on the beastie with sniper fire. Won't last much more than a few turns against it. Gray Knights are gonna have to just rain down Lascannon or Missile fire. Daemons would have to tear into him with either Soulgrinders or Daemon Princes/Bloodthirsters packing Unholy Might.

Don't over kill
This painless thrill
It's bitter still
You pretty pill
You wait until
You've had your fill
I know you will
I know you will

Actually, one of the best strategies I've found to use is to just lock him up in combat with a unit that can't be pushed back. For me, that's the Berzerkers.
Then just aim at the actual Necrons until they phase out. ^^ Because the Nightbringer doesn't count for that percentage.

if you have a phase out as a necron player, you're doing something wrong or you have bad luck lol
i field at least 60 warriors and other things so i have about 75 necron special rule guys so you have to kill 57 necrons before phase out

I find this statement misinformed. Necrons have a hard lot in 5th, and this smacks of 'LRN2PLY NUB' elitism. It's very easy for a Necron army in 5th to get hosed fast, especially if you've got big blocks of Warriors. The 5th ed CC resolution rules will often have your 20 man warrior block take it's morale check at -4 or 5, leading to a spectacular rout that you can't WBB from. Necrons are probably the army most negatively affected by 5th ed.

that's true but you have 2/3 chance off objective capping and there you can keep a unit at the back to protect an objective and usually this unit will be enough to keep the rest of the army from phase out

There are still players smart enough to actively target your warriors, held back or not.

However, you need your warriors to capture objectives, no other unit in your army can do such a thing.

Indeed, 5th edition objective-capturing put a lot more emphasis on the need for Warriors in Necron armies. I honestly think that'll make them harder to beat, I've always beat them by targeting troops in the past.

Quite honestly, as being a Necron players back in 3rd, and now coming back in in 5th edition, I feel as though until Necrons get an update....well...they suck sadly :/

With new close combat rules, you REALLY need initiative to win it alot of the time.

That said, Monoliths have been made nigh on indestructible with new damage tables.
