*Maggie stirs slightly, starting to come awake. Her eyes open slowly, and she blushes faintly, realizing where she is and recalling just how she got there. Her gaze falls on the empty spot on the bed next to her. Concerned that Bard may have faded out while she slept, she lifts herself up on one elbow to look around the room, and spots him sitting by his desk*

*Relieved, she opens her mouth to speak, but then stops, biting her lip uncertainly. She wonders why he rose without waking her.* Bard . . . *she murmers his name, tentatively*

*Bard looks up from his work. Without a word, he sets his pen and paper down on the desk, rises from the chair and wanders over to the bed. He sits down, on it's edge, and cupping Maggie's cheek, leans in and gives her a tender kiss*

mmm... Good morning...

*Maggie returns the kiss, then smiles, almost a bit shyly. Her eyes search his face for any sign of disappointment* Good morning .. . *she echoes softly.*

*Bard gazes into those beautiful eyes for a long moment befre turning to look at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It reads "81:03" He chews his lip thoughtfully* Are you hungry? Unfortunately this room lacks the kitchenette of my old apartment, but I do have a small refrigerator. And if nothing in there looks appealing, we can try the bar.

*He reaches under the bed and finds one of his socks. He starts pulling it on.*

I am, a bit, I ... *Maggie begins, but she trails off as he turns his back to her. She had felt those scars when she'd held him last night, but her heart constricts to see them clearly now. There are far too many, far too varied, to have been any sort of accident* Oh Bard, yer back . . . *the words slip out before she can think to stop herself*

*Bard stiffens reflexively. He says nothing for a moment, then says in a soft voice* It's nothing. Just a reminder of the past.

*he finishes pulling his socks and shoes on, and in a hollow, yet cheerful voice he adds* The brink always has something for empty bellies. Let's see what it has to offer us.

*he flashes her a smile, rising and reclaiming his shirt from the floor. He pulls it on and begins to button it*

*Maggie hesitates briefly, but it's clear that he doesn't want to discuss the matter further, so she nods. 'When he wants ye to know,' she thinks to herself, 'He'll tell ye.'*

*Seeing him getting dressed, though, Maggie is suddenly very aware that she's wearing little more than a sheet at the moment. Blushing again, she looks about for his robe, only to realize she's been lying right on top of it. She slides her arms back into it quickly while he's turned away, belts it around her waist again, and climbs out of bed*

*Bard finishes dressing and checks the refrigerator* Oh... I think we may have breakfast right here. *without turning to face her he adds* would you like to eat now or would you feel more comfortable if you dressed first?

Ehm . . . *Maggie clears her throat self-consciously* My things are likely dry by now . . . I'll go put them back on.

*She moves back over toward the bathroom, pausing to glance back at him, then steps inside and closes the door softly behind her*

*while she's in the bathroom, Bard arranges the breakfast that the room's provided for them on the desk. He pulls up an overstuffed armchair and sets it near the desk so that Maggie will have a place to sit*

*Meanwhile, inside the bathroom, Maggie finishes getting dressed, hanging the robe back in its place. She leans against the door for a moment before going back out, twisting her hands together, thinking.*

*Glancing up, she catches a glimpse of her face in the mirror. She shakes her head at herself, then opens the door to step back into the main part of Bard''s room*

*Seeing Maggie emerge from the bathroom, he motions to the desk* Breakfast is served.

*There are two plates, each with a wedge of Quiche Lorraine and an assortment of sliced fruits and whole strawberries. Beside each plate is a glass of orange juice*

What do you think?

*Maggie smiles to see how nicely he's set everything out. She's used to preparing food for other people, not the other way around* Oh, it looks lovely, Bard, thank ye. *she crosses over toward the desk, tilting her head slightly to look at the quiche and the juice* Might I just . . *she begins tentatively, not wanting to sound ungrateful* . . ask what it is?
PostPosted: Mon Aug 29, 2005 5:16 pm

*Bard grins* Well , this is quiche. It's a kind of pie made with eggs, milk, ham and cheese. And this is orange juice. I don't suspect you get many oranges in Ainsford, eh?

*Maggie shakes her head* Nay, I've heard of them, but I've ne'er seen one. *she looks at the glass, rather curious but almost hesitant to try it. In her time, such things are usually only for the very wealthy*
