Flaming_Ninja_Dragon P.S. how do they pick section leaders? we dont really have a section leader or assigned parts, but we have someone in our section that takes attendance. we basically pick parts and chairs for ourselves, but id rather try out. first off, reffering to your post before this one, WHAT A TERRIBLE BD gonk I can't believe he'd actually do that! crying My friend told me they said that, and she never lies to me sweatdrop unfortunately, I'm now seventh chair but the second chair is now ninth chair blaugh though I'm hoping to get back up to my chair soon :/ I have told my BD about some problems but they were fixed by themselves, I'm scared to tell him about the problem I have with the used to be second chair and the first chair clarinetist (whose still first chair sad ) he knows its not like me to talk about immature problems like this, but I can't help it D: anyways, he picks section leaders by 1. how they play 2. their capability of helping others and being a leader 3. if they have a loud voice and is prepared I pretty much have all those qualities except the loud voice, mines is quiet gonk -miyoko

Miyoko Clarinetti first off, reffering to your post before this one, WHAT A TERRIBLE BD gonk I can't believe he'd actually do that! crying Mrs. whats-her-name (the strings teacher) is like a guardian angel compared to mr. martin (the exicutioner). she doesnt yell and scream like he does, and she actually plays with the 2nd violins and helps them and all the strings with their parts and shes nice about it. i sorta wish i picked the violin or something now... mr. martin blames me for every mistake the 1st clarinets make. (me and charlie)we had a rollentando at the end (a slow down) and i played it right and he played it too fast. mr martin said draw a little pair of glasses at the rallentando and he said sarah, what do the glasses mean, like i was the one who made the mistake. (and i thought sarcastically, oh yeah, and mr. perfect next to me never makes a mistake... rolleyes ) oh, and i patched things up with charlie, he s forgetfull and stuff. my concert is tonite in 2 hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish me luck!

on another note...(no pun intended)
wouldnt it be cool if all the gaia band geeks could get together and play? then we would know how good everyone else is and it would be really fun... it wont happen though, with gas prices going up and the distance between us...

Shunsuke Akagi Wee! eek I'm a freshman, and have been playing clarinet for a year and two months now, but I picked it up fast, and I'm one of the loudest players in my section, on occasion. xp Heh, I'm just an idiot but I love my clarinet, so pardon my enthusiasm. 3nodding eek Bleh, during practice in our closing theme there's a move I back into for 18 counts, and it's really, really weird. eek I ended up moving to the right too soon and crashing into someone, falling, and now my ankle is a little swollen. 'Tis band for ya, I guess. whee xp just so some of you know, it's not always a good thing to be the loudest player...you have to make sure that all the other instruments/parts can be heard...yes, clarinets often (in concert bands) have melody, but harmony is just as important...in it's own way...I personally have been playing clarinet for nine years, and bass clarinet for 4...and as a bass clarinet I've been asked to be louder simply because our clarinets are TOO loud...so watch your dynamics!

I'm more of a quiet player.I just don't play loud...I don't know why.I think it's because I don't want to be heard or something...But I can play loud if I want to!I'm seeing about playing bass clarinet next year if my friend doesn't play it.

I'm sorta the same way...but I'm told to play loud...and bass clarinet? Good luck!! That thing takes lots of air...so much air that I think I don't have much left...lol I'm kidding, but it does take a lot of air, and after continually playing for maybe 15 minutes staight, you'll have a lot of saliva...lol.

crying How can you not play loud? One of the instroments I play is the bassoon and that takes more air, in my opinion, so I don't feel for you confused
If you don't play out sooner or later your going to get a band leader who will crack the whip. As a clarinet player, I never used to play out much because I never practiced and there was never a point to in a section of 20 or so of us. I always figured I'd slid by someway without lifting a finger. My plan worked pretty well until I went to high school. There our p didn't count for anything. Our mf was considered flickering on the rader. And when We played our fff and I was blasting as hard as I could, something I would never considered in Middle School, DDA was "can't the reeds play any louder?" Over the next few weeks I practiced at home and in sectionals and we gradually got louder, fuller, darker, basically all-around better.
(Wheel of Morality! Turn! Turn! Turn! Tell us the lesson we should learn!) scream Practice and you'll get louder or else! mad

I am a senior in my marching band and have been playing clarinet for about 7 yrs but I took off a year to do French Horn and Color Guard, our marching band is number 1 in the state of WV, and our band director(is soooo funny) is the VP of the Band Directors association. I have only done this band 3 years however I did 2 in my other school Alabama. Sorry if I sound like I'm bragging. whats BOA, we have TOB-tournament of bands, is it like that or is it like, ACC-atlantic Coast Championships? nice to say to you all.
I mainly play my wooden clarinet now, however I do own a plastic and brass Bb and a plastic alto, sad
base clarinet requires more air than a bassoon b/c I can play bassoon and I don't have enough air for a Base Clarinet, I can also play Bari Sax, so its not just me.
