"If it's not there we can get it tomorrow, I bet," Maia said. Same rights, huh? She'd never considered herself without rights. But she could get a cellphone. And other things. Things that required an id like alcohol and a drivers license.
"When is it time to go to work?" She asked.

"That depends, do you have any early classes?" Toby asked.
By now Lori would have gone over with her, finalized and given her a schedule, and while he had never heard of a class starting before 10 in the morning he supposed it was possible if Maia had agreed. "If not, we're supposed to be in at 10." The grace period was over. They were back to work full-force.

"No, my classes start at eleven," she said. "Then I get another class with Dari, I think. Do you teach anything, Toby?" She asked. She was hopeful: maybe there was something more she could learn. "So you're back to work now?"

Yup, that was pretty standard. It gave teachers enough time to do what needed to be done in the morning before they had to bother with new entities. Some were more difficult than others. Maia had at least come in contact with humanity before.
"He doesn't," Dari responded. Toby agreed by shaking his head.
"I'm more interested in the new experiences than something teachable, so no. I don't do any official classes." Sometimes the bureau disapproved of his tactics, insinuating he was somehow trying to seduce new entities into something outside the official basis. Nothing had ever come of it, though, except for more comfortable and arguably more experienced clients. It wasn't as if they could drive off the compound themselves! Then he nodded. "Yup, it's back to normal. You can still visit, though. As long as productivity doesn't go down they don't mind a bit of interaction." Toby offered Maia a smile. It kept everyone sane.

Maia was somewhat disappointed. "New experiences are fun. Like last night." Before she'd broken into sobs, anyway. Going to a restaurant with new friends, eating things she'd never tried before, it'd been fun. "Someday I want to travel and see all sorts of places. Everything will be new."
"Alright, I'll come to your office after lunch."

Toby's smiled broadened. He liked that outlook. The world could be scary, or it could be exciting. He preferred the latter, even if he had spent a good amount of time in fear.
"Alright, sounds good. We'll get you a good chair."
She was living with them. She was probably going to want to spend a good amount of time with them, so a chair seemed entirely reasonable. Dari just smiled, proud of Toby's choice to invite Maia in rather than push her out.

"One like yours? Great! And maybe after I've gotten myself a job I can get a computer." She'd be able to research things during her free time. "Then you can show me how to navigate the internet or something. And all sorts of things." She'd be able to pick out places she wanted to see. "Maybe Seamus will come with me again."

"If we can find one." Surely there had to be a few in storage, right? Or had they ordered just enough and none to replace unexpected breakage? Hopefully not, but this was a government building.
"When you're ready, I would be glad to help," Dari offered. "Computers are much cheaper if you buy the parts and build them yourself. Not a laptop, though."
"But he could probably help there too," Toby offered with a smile. He finished his omelet and was working on the last bits of coffee. "Sure, Seamus is invited." He was a big cat, but he preferred to curl on top of things and thus take up less room, even if it was generally a work surface or a lap.

"Maybe I'll do that. But I think I'd like a laptop, that way it'd be portable. Or a tablet... But I feel like you could do more on a computer than a tablet. They're so much smaller. Are laptops very expensive?" she asked.
She finished her breakfast, stood and took her plate back into the kitchen. "I'll tell him," She promised. "He'll come if I give him another piece of meat."

"The cheapest are probably two-hundred and fifty or so. It's not so bad." Unless you were working at a fast food place. Toby decided not to remind Maia that she'd be getting a stipend simply for existing. Nobody could get on their feet with nothing beneath them.
Toby followed to the kitchen, stealing Maia's plate and rinsing it, then popping it and her fork into the dishwasher with his. "Oh, so you two work on a system or bribery?"

"That's not bad," Maia agreed. Vacations seemed to cost more. A lot of things seemed to cost more, really. Boats, cats, houses... "Well, not at first. He just likes me. And then I saved him a piece of meat from lunch. And I told him I'd bring him fish after we go to the lake."

"Of course he likes you," Toby said with a smile. He rinsed his mug and put it on the top shelf of the dishwasher, then washed his hands. Nothing he had touched would hurt him, but it had become habit after being in the field so long and so much time in and out of the labs. Seamus likely enjoyed her presence because she was also fae, but why disappoint her like that? "You know, he doesn't always take to people so fast. Hell, there's people he still doesn't like."

Maia beamed. So Seamus didn't like everyone: she'd suspected he did. Was she special? "He seems to like you too, when you're not making him mad. I really like him. I've always liked to watch the cats in town. Now that I'm living as a human and I can get my own place, I might be able to get my own. But I want a job and stuff first. And to learn things."

Huh. That was very responsible of her. For all Maia was childlike and ignorant to society she seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. That was always a plus. He smiled and nodded.
"Well, I was there when we found him. Hey, I'm going to go brush my teeth, I'll be right back."

"Okay," Maia agreed. She glanced towards where they'd left Dari. "Hey," she said. "Are you going to teach me more words today? Useful ones instead of words like bologna?" She ought to get her stuff and prepare to leave, really. "I'll be right back." She went up the stairs and gathered her things.
