If he wasn't so upset he might have noticed that tripping and tumbling down the descent was actually marginally faster of a way to go. Just a lot more painful.

And then he was attacked by mysterious hands again. No wonder it was taking so long to get to the bottom of this place. Everyone wanted a piece of him.

This time something pulled him off the platform. He was falling, and he didn't quite care what happened at the bottom.
But he survived.
At the bottom, he received another blessing, and was on his way, a bit less confident than he usually was.

And yet the memory that engulfed her this time was suffocating. She screamed, she screamed, there was nothing but guilt and pain and death and--
Mnezara felt sick to her stomach.
5 - The Sorrowed: She cried out, the scream tearing her throat like a blade, but still she could not stop. Grief overwhelmed her like a wave, an avalanche, something so powerful that nothing could stand in its way and remain unscathed. Everything she loved was dead or dying, from people to her home to her very way of life. There was nothing left. She screamed and screamed and in that scream was a plea for death, that she not outlive the last vestiges of everything she was-

And yet, as she sunk her blade into her opponent, her throat was dry and she felt cold.

It was a terrible terrible feeling and Mnezara tried to quell it by stabbing her blade into the monster once again.

He found himself on the edge of the The Spire. To his surprise, the steps are more stable than they appeared. As he moved, the fog grew heavier, curling in around him. Lliote kept descending. Before he knew what was happening he felt the fog close in around him...
They filled the skies. She tightened her grip on her weapon and felt a great and terrible resolve rise in her soul. She would die here, she knew, and yet she felt no fear. She would die protecting her people. She would die, but she would take many of them with her into the abyss. She was steel, forged and pure.
He felt strong. He felt purpose. He felt resolute. He knew, that even if he was facing death, he would face it bravely. He would go down fighting. He would do it. He could do it.
He stumbled down. The strong memory he had felt earlier was overwhelming. These emotions were not his own but at the same time they were. There were faces in the fog. Had they been there the entire time? Lliote wasn't sure. He was getting tired. Below him, he saw a large platform, the kind that looked perfect for a rest.
But the moment he stepped onto the platform red light blazes. Figures swarm from the fog and they swirl until they form one being. She walked towards him and raised her sword.
She was resolute. He could feel it. That was her essence, her being. And she was going to take him with her.

Her relentless attacks caught him off guard. She didn't stop her attacks even when he stumbled to get away.

Lliote could understand how she felt in part because he was feeling it too. He knew that she would die for her cause. He would too. He had something for fighting for, something worth dying for. He, too, had a resolute heart.
