Maximos
Teira might be surprised to hear her back popping strength had done just that. Three or four pops jumping from Maximos back making the shadow wince a bit.

Her answer made him feel like a complete fool. Elf, of course. He should have taken that into consideration. Just a day of innocence longer, an hour, a minute...But Walter was right, his council always wise.

How long have you been watching?

She shrugged, for she had no way to perceive or convey time. Hearing, the vertebrae crack, she hastily released him. She looked almost stricken... there was something in his voice that made her feel-- feel as if she had done something wrong. Shifting uneasily, she turned to leave.

No, wait.

Maximos said before she could walk away. That wasnt right. His own disposition toward war should not be forced on Teira. She was her own person and she deserved every chance to be that person.

Did what you see, remind you of anything?

He called out to her, while two snaps filled the air, and two small black stones jumped into his right hand.

Donner blinked, suddenly thoroughly cowed. "Didn't mean offense...was just wondering, thats all..."

The reason why Donner hadn't pushed the subject was because he was trying to remain civil, taking a leaf out of Maximos' book. Pushing the point would've elicted the exact response Maximos had just given him. There were no underlying motives behind his questions. He seriously wondered why Maxi didn't live on the earth. Did he not like Gaia? Or perhaps the island reminded him of his home world?

Regardless, Donner kept quiet now. He ate slowly, wondering where he went wrong, and beginning to wonder when exactly they had begun to fall apart as friends...

She froze and turned slowly toward him. Her features were a picture of confusedness. Rubbing her arm idly she walked to where she'd dropped the cat ploosh and picked it up. She picked at a piece of the ear fluff not quite looking at him... but not quite looking away.

Remind her... of something...

The way her body had reacted had been strange, yet more strange was the sense of familiarity as she looked on in silence.

She didn't know how to describe it...

"Something---"

She shook her head. The memory was like a long gone dream, too far faded to be discernible.

Maximos stepped forward holding his right out arm out to his side. There was a spark here, it was in Teira's confusion. Confusion reigned where her mind was lost between Teira and...

If she pushed to hard, she would lock up and possibly break. The magical barrier that Walter had placed was not at all fragile, neither was the power of the ring but her mind certainly could be. Maximos had to guide it, lead it.

-Snap-

The sound of a stone shattering as a black longsword appeared in the shadow's hand. He brought it forward, slowly, offering it gently to the young girl.

Take this. How does it feel?

Would she even know how to hold it? Would it flow naturally? Either way he was thankful that his training blades were dull.

Her eyes widened slightly, but she held out her hand. Her fingers closed around the sword blade, as it reached her first. Accepting the weapon. Her hand knew-- It knew this was not where it was meant to rest. Tossing the blade up, a sliced an arc in the air as her hand snatched it out of it's rotation, closing around the pommel like a bird returned to it's perch. It felt RIGHT.

Her eyes grew a little wider. What did she ju--

She held her arm out, looking down the length of the blade as she tested it's weight...

Vaguely aware of Maximos still standing near her, she looked at the blade in wonderment.

It was familiar yet somehow foreign...

Grace sipped at her tea and watched the exchange in silence, wondering what was between the two men that they apparently knew each other so well, and yet were on the verge of open war at times....

"What keeps it up? The Island that is..." perhaps a slight shift in the conversation would alleviate some of the tension?

((*hugs Morrow* I laughed my a** off at the first part of your response to Rae's last post))

Rae looked worriedly between Morrow and Maxi and wondered if she knew anything that could make it all better sweatdrop

It was one thing to watch them go at it in the stadium proper, that was entertainment... Here it was just a rift between people who had once been close, and it was sad.

Maximos watched her. That dark recognition, the ability to hurt and kill, the ability to save and defend. The ability to cause intense pain swirled with the ability to deliver one from sadness.

A sword. It stood for so little, and yet so very much.

Confusion. That dark place between herself and an impossibly large alternate life, threatening to spew forth like a wave and crush her. And the first key of many that now stood in her grasp. In this moment, she was Teira, but she was also someone else. Together someone entirely different and yet familiar stood in front of Maximos.

He brought his arm up, and then immediately slashed it downwards letting out a dry crack as he summoned a second, identical blade. He spoke, calm, yet steady. Would the memory of battle pour out of her tossing all vestiges of humanity aside as she relived some old war? Would it slowly leak, freezing her in place as it overtook her? Either way, he was prepared, and it was to that confused self he spoke, as he took a step back and raised his blade between them.

Show me.

She may not recognize his presence, but that deep memory may just remember the concept of "opponent".

---

All hints or inklings of anger or frustration seemed to vanish as quickly as one would turn on a light switch. Maximos turned to Grace with that same warm smile he had all day long.

Oh, a simple enchantment really.

He made a symbol in the air with his finger, it didnt actually mark the air. But it was his way of remembering what he used.

Theres a really basic Lunoc enchantment that allows flight, and "hovering" its meant for small home objects, lamps, lanterns, flowers, that sort of thing. I just increased the size of the runes proportionately and painted them on the island....well...

He tapped his chin a bit.

...It was a plateau at the time but....

Ranting, a bad habit. He sort of quieted down into his food.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:33 pm

Ah.

That actually made a lot of sense.

Donner chewed thoughtfully on something that resembled a custard tart, before realizing it was a custard tart. His mouth already full, he gamely swallowed the foul tart before consuming the rest quickly, not wanting to hurt Walter's feelings. That was the problem with all this exotic food - eventually you came across something that looked normal, and surprisingly is normal - and something you hate.

"...Must've taken some time..." He remarked quietly.

As he brought his arm down, summoning an identical blade to the one she held, her body reacted before her mind could even realize what was happening. She recovered backwards, bringing the blade up in a guarded stance, staying the weapon with her hand as she stared at him in shock, a fine tremble running through her body.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:57 pm

A stance. A definite sign her memories had been tapped.

Instinct.

Fear.

All completely understandable.

Dont be afraid, let it flow...you wont hurt me...

The blade spun at the hilt as Maximos let his wrist adjust before bringing it back into stance. It was held between the both of them, one hand high on the hilt. His voice was warm, friendly, welcoming. Not the voice of someone who would just painfully attack.

...and I wont hurt you.

He couldnt show her this one, she had to cross this bridge on her own. How to attack and defend, the knowledge was clearly there she couldnt know stances and how to quickly flip and catch the sword without it. While her full skills may still be locked, that basic information had to be there she simply needed to find it. Maximos would coax out the rest.

Fight.

Fight.

The urge rose within her, calling her out... beckoning her to--

Her eyes were wide, too wide. Her whole body shook, yet the blade was steady as she moved forward, leading with her right foot and pushing off with the left... The sword moved from it's central guard, the tip of the blade no longer pointing at Maximos. Instead she let it drop to her left side, her right arm held on a downward diagonal across her stomach as she closed on Maximos. She raised her arm in a clock-wise motion, bringing the blade down in an overhead strike.

FIGHT!

"Iyyaaaaagh!"
PostPosted: Wed Dec 05, 2007 12:58 am

- CLANG! -

The reverberating sign of dark steel blades clashing filled the room. The echoing vibration shook down the blade through both fighters hands. Maximos blade had come up, horizontally even with his shoulders though a bit above his head.

Her form, her style, it was graceful as can be although it carried the flecks of un-comfortability. A lack of confidence. She shook, but her hands knew the way.

Good.

He said, before flicking his black blade up and around in a clockwise fashion sliding Teira's blade aside. There was something in that moment, a flicker of something red, a half a memory where something appeared familiar, but it passed as soon as it emerged.

Again...

He said with a smile, and yet a level of sternness.

...faster.

By pushing her speed he would be forcing her to think less and feel more, and her instincts knew how to fight.

As their blades connected, the whole world seemed to slow down. She stopped hearing and seeing anything... except him.

He'd stopped being Maximos, and become something else. An opponent. Someone to be fought. THAT was all that mattered now, as the fight thrummed through her veins making her blood race.

As he cast her blade off to the side, she moved with it. Down she went dropping easily into a spinning crouch. The momentum of her blade and the fluid movement of her body carried her right. Spinning counter clockwise as she pushed up from the ground, carrying with her the blackened blade. A rising diagonal slash, left to right aimed at his thigh-ribs.
