Why would I think of something as childish as that? Maria thought with a small sigh as she continued eating her ice cream and staring out the window. She was about halfway through with it when she heard Dimitri talk to her. She was completely off guard when he had called her princess. She turned to look at him, noticing the princely position he was sitting in and how he wasn't looking at her. She smiled and took another taste of her ice cream, "Oh nothing that special, your highness. Just a silly childish thought came into mind," she paused for a bit before leaning inwards some, "And... Why did you call me "princess"?" She didn't sound upset at all, but she sounded curious because she did want to know why such a nickname escaped his lips. She remembered that he told her that he cared about her when they were at the hospital the other day. Could this be his way of showing that, by calling her "princess"? Could there actually be something more between us? Could we really be...a couple? Maria thought, waiting for Dimitri to respond. She couldn't explain it, but the thought of them being a couple made Maria smile because it was something she wished would happen to them.

Can you keep a secret?...
Dimitri blinked, picking his chin up from his hand slightly, the faint tinge of pink in his cheeks flushing to red. But in a second, he had composed himself and once again rested his knuckle against his cheeks bone, his face pale as usual, rather than flushed an embarrassed red. "Well..." He said slowly, once again seeming to consider his answer carefully. "Did you even think that maybe it fits you?" He asked, his smirk returning, a playful note in his voice. But then it dropped to a slightly more serious note. "Unless you don't like it, if you'd rather I not call you it..." He trailed off uncertainly, shifting at bit in his seat.
    But more specifically...Can you keep mine?...

Maria patiently waited for him to respond, working on finishing the rest of her ice cream as he did so. When he responded, she listened to his answer carefully, realizing that he had some truth in it. She smiled, taking another taste of her ice cream before responding. "No, no," Maria said, in a somewhat quick manner when Dimitri had mentioned that she might not have liked it, "I was just curious is all. The only nicknames I get are "Ria" or "Mi angelito". My brothers and cousins call me Ria, but mainly my older brothers, and my father calls me "Mi angelito", which means, "my little angel"."
She paused again eating some more of her ice cream until she noticed that the rest of it was stuck in the depths of the cone. She took a soft bite of the cone before speaking again, "I've never really seen myself as a princess since the thought has never crossed my mind. However, if you see me as a princess, then I wouldn't mind being your princess." Her mind had yet to process the words that had come out of her mouth until about a minute after the words escaped her lips. Her blush returned to her cheeks as she went back to focusing on the rest of her ice cream, feeling embarrassed for what she had said, even though it was true.

Dimitri smirked slightly, looking down and taking a crunch on his cone. He swallowed thoughtfully before answering. "Well then, I wouldn't mind being your prince." He said, once again, thinking it was worth risking being a little bit flirty. Dimitri, strangely enough, was beginning to feel less and less embarrassed by these exchanges, but he knew Maria may not feel the same way, so he quickly changed the subject. "So..." He said slowly, many questions popping into his mind, but he picked the most applicable one. "Who all is in your family?" Dimitri asked curiously, genuinely interested. She had mentioned her father and her brothers, but he wanted to know just how many of them there was.
But more specifically...Can you keep mine?...

Maria felt her heart race again when Dimitri said he didn't mind being her prince. It was almost just too perfect to her and she felt like she could just hug him at that moment. A random question popped into her head about if that meant they could be considered as a couple, but she knew she shouldn't rush things, especially since he hadn't asked her out. Still, a happy love sick smile appeared on her face and her face seemed to beam with happiness as she continued eating the rest of her cone and ice cream.
As she finished her ice cream, Dimitri had asked her about her family. She was surprised he asked, but she found no problem with answering him at all. "Well, I have a mom and a dad. Mom works at a clinic and sometimes in the hospital and my dad's the police chief of some of the main police departments in the city. I have two older brothers. Ulises is twenty-six and he's in graduate school for robotic engineering and Eneas is twenty-two and is in his last year of his five year double major program with computer design and architecture. Dad has three brothers and one sister and mom has two sisters. Dad's the middle child in his family and mom's the baby in hers. And as for me, well I'm the baby in the family. But my family is enormous. Holidays are a lot of fun though."
She paused and wished she had taken more time on eating her ice cream and almost wanted to order another one when another question came to her. She wanted to ask about Dimitri's family. It would be like returning the favor since he asked about hers. She wasn't sure how she should approach it and maybe it was too personal, but she still wanted to know. Before she could even stop herself, she found herself asking the question. "And what about you? What's your family like Dimitri? I mean... If you want to talk about it that is," Maria added lamely, sighing and looking out the window.

Dimitri listened with a smile as Maria talked about her family. She seemed to love them all so much, her face lit up when she talked about them. It was something Dimitri didn't quite understand, but he was willing take her love for her family at face value. Dimitri had never thought about just how large Maria's family might have been but now that he thought about it it was kind of surprising.
Maria's next question hit Dimitri like a punch to the heart, driving the air out of his lungs. He struggled to keep his face impassive, even calm or cheerful. He swallowed, looking up at her and smiling. "No, it's okay." He said dismissively, knowing that to refuse her any information would maker her suspect that something was wrong, very wrong with his family. "Actually, my family really simple compared to yours, It's just me, no brothers or sister. And then of course my mom, and my step-dad Jared." Dimitri felt his blood run cold as Dimitri said his stepfathers name for the first time in months, but he didn't falter or pause, he kept going, smiling like he actually liked him. "I think my mom has a sister or two but they live in Japan so we don't hear much from them." He said, willing his face not to be paler than normal. Dimitri desperately scrambled for any other relation he might have forgotten, someone else that was interesting enough to keep her from asking about Jared. He looked up, the perfect thing coming to him. "My grandfather on my mum's side was a pilot in WWII." Dimitri said with a smiled as though he had just remembered. "He's dead now of course, but there's a bunch of cool old stuff of his from the war that my mom has."

Maria listened to Dimitri's explanation of his family. When he mentioned that he had a step father, Maria wondered what could have happened to his father, but decided not to ask at the moment. Something about Dimitri's smile, Maria couldn't quite explain it, but it seemed kind of forced. Again, she didn't ask him anything, but found herself intrigued about his aunts living in Japan and wondered if he was partially Japanese. She felt herself relax a bit when he smiled mentioning his grandfather and was now interested about the items from the World War II era.
When he finished, Maria just smiled. "Your family does sound really simple. But..," she paused there, trying to figure out the right words, "What about your dad? Did something happen to him? And... What about Jared and his family?" Somewhere she felt like she was being too personal again, but her mind kept showing her Dimitri's smile when he mentioned Jared and she just wanted to know something.

Dimitri blinked slightly, wishing that he wouldn't have to answer any more questions about his family. But he had already slipped into the habit of letting the lies tumble easily from his lips, and stories, but true and only half true began to form in his mind. He just wished that she had gotten sidetracked by the stories of his grandfather.
"Well," He said, having finished his ice cream cone, he lace his fingers in front of him. "I lost my biological dad when I was pretty young, so I don't really remember much about him." The dark hair boy said, hoping that he sounded like it wasn't a big deal. "As for Jared's family, They're kind of all over the place, I don't think he has siblings but I'm sure his parents are somewhere in the states, which ones I'm not sure." He said with a soft laugh. "His parents where at their wedding but I think that's the last we've really heard from them." He explained, this much was true. Dimitri vaguely remembered meeting Jared's parent but he had been very little at the time.
Dimitri shifted slightly, looking relaxed when in all honesty he couldn't have been more uncomfortable. There was something in Maria's expression that told him that she was more curious, or suspicious than she let on. It made Dimitri panicky, but he kept his face relaxed, a slight smirk still touching his lips.
But more specifically...Can you keep mine?...

Maria listened to him, all of her focus on him and the words spilling from his mouth. She could never imagine a life without her father and even knowing what kind of a man he was, only knowing him like a stranger through stories. She couldn't quite explain it, but when he mentioned Jared's family, she felt like there was something missing. Maybe it was the fact that she had watched so many crime and mystery shows and got herself interested in cases her father was involved in, but she shooed the thought away for the time being until he was done.
At the same time, she couldn't escape this feeling that there was still something missing in his explanation or that something seemed off, just like when Kedrick explained Dimitri's reason for staying at his place. Oh Dimitri... What could you be hiding from me? She asked herself worriedly in her thoughts, still keeping a calm and collected composure. She knew she needed to say something since she had been so quiet after his explanation.
She stood up and stretched then walked over to him and laid her head on his arm, blushing lightly as she did so. "Well, now that we know something about our family life and we finished our ice cream, what's next on our agenda?" she asked, slowly noticing how nice he smelt before her blush got worse again.

Dimitri waited, trying not to look anxious as Maria sat in silence after he told her about his story. He knew something was going through her mind, she was smart, he knew that, and she could tell something was off. Dimitri couldn't figure out how, he was a good lair, he had rehearsed his story innumerable times, told it to dozens of different people, many of them adults. So how? How could Maria, out of all people, tell that he was lying?
The young man felt his heart leap at Maria stood up, what was she going to do? Finally, Dimitri's mask of calm slipped for just a moment and fear flickered in his eyes. He had to try very hard to keep himself from jumping as she touched his arm, his eyes meeting hers.
Dimitri couldn't believe how lucky he was when Maria changed the subject herself, now all he had to do was keep her off it. He smiled slightly, looking up at her. "Well, Frankly I didn't have anything planed..." He said, trailing of slightly, as he ran though his options. "How about you choose? I picked the ice cream." He finished, looking up at her with a smile.

"You didn't have anything else planned?" Maria asked, in an upset playful tone. She never thought she could joke around with him so much, but she was silly most of the time so she couldn't help it either way. Plus, she wanted to get rid of the awkward atmosphere they had when Dimitri explained his family situation since it was the least she could do from going all nosy interrogator on him. She gave his question some thought, not really sure where she wanted to go herself. After awhile, she just shrugged her shoulders and smiled, "Can we go ride around your bike? It really was fun."

Maria couldn't help but grin happily as he agreed to her request. She knew she would find some place of interest for them to hang out at, but for now, she just wanted to enjoy the wind blowing through her hair and especially Dimitri's company. This would be a perfect time for bonding too. She could figure out what movies he liked, what countries he wanted to travel to, if he took a language.
She followed him out the door, already feeling more excited than she did from before. Waiting patiently for Dimitri to prepare himself on his bike, Maria tried to remember if there was any place of interest for them to visit. When she heard him speak again, she blinked a few times, slowly getting out of her thoughts. When he mentioned riding her home her smile grew and for a moment, she felt speechless. Oh Papá will definitely love meeting him, Maria thought with a somewhat childish excitement, I wonder when a good time will be to introduce him to Papá anyway.
She nodded and mounted behind Dimitri and stood on the spokes, wrapping her arms around his waist securely. "Thanks so much Dimitri," she said with a sweet smile, "But you don't have to ride me back home. I'll be fine walking back or even taking a bus."

"No one would try to mug me, chico," Maria said with a smirk, "I have my father's police department on speed dial. If they even think about hurting the chief's little angelito, they are in so much trouble," she giggled and only nodded, "But I thank you for the offer and I'll take you up on that. However, don't think you'll be able to leave my home easy after you drop me off. My brother's are home visiting and either one of them or my parents will want to thank you for bringing me home safely. So, don't feel pressured."
Again Maria took in the sights of the town and looked around, trying to see if she could find a good place for them to visit. Sadly, none of the places they passed had gotten her attention. When they reached the stop sign, Maria had to think it over for a second, looking around and almost wanted to say, telling Dimitri to keep going when her she heard something. It was somewhat faint, but she knew the familiarity of the music anywhere. With a smile, she pointed her finger to the northwest. "Follow the Hispanic music," Maria said with a smile, "I know it sounds faint, but trust me, I know there's someone playing it. There just has to be."
