Lin blushed at that, she wasn't so sure sometimes. She knew she had a lot of trouble relating to 'normal' people, and still did despite having friends closer to her so-called age group.
"I think I must have driven my family nuts," Lin admitted.
He blinked a few times, it was hard to make out even with the really good attempt. Though a bit of common sense also helped him to figure out what she was asking.
"I'm Ryu," he waved a moment.

Earendil frowned at that comment. "I'm not sure if I should respond honestly to that," he said softly. "Not that you would have driven them nuts, but ..."
He was half tempted to say that her father was the one who was good at that. Earendil certainly was still annoyed with him, though he knew it would be best to keep it to himself.
Haldia smiled at Ryu and waved back. "Haldia," she replied. "Haldia Hun'lyl."
She hadn't heard the name, but she assumed that he was there with Kara and Donovan. She pointed at Ryu and then at Naida. "Y... yhou ... she ..." She frowned, trying to think of the word. She couldn't, so she simply pointed at Lin. "With?"

Lin blinked wondering what Earendil meant until it occurred to her that he was still peeved at her father.
"Still upset at Daddy huh?" she murmured wryly.
Again she didn't understand it, maybe she had tougher skin, but still, she didn't get it.
Ryu looked to where Haldia was pointing, he grinned looking back at Haldia. It was obvious that Haldia probably knew Lin and therefore knew Earendil.
"She's my little sister."

Earendil glanced up at Lin, then sighed. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be so negative about it," he murmured. "I've only seen your father a few times before, but I don't remember him being like this before. I don't know what's gotten into him today."
He could sort of see why Donovan was acting the way he was, but there were limits that had been crossed a long time before Earendil had put an end to it.
Haldia smiled back at Ryu. "Sisterr," she repeated, nodding. She pointed at Naida. "Auch ... als ... also ... sisterr?" she asked curiously.
Seeing all the visitors was interesting to her, and she was curious to know how they were all related.

"He missed me," Lin grinned as if this was the most normal thing in the world.
Lin like Kara, knew the lines between teasing because he really didn't like you, or teasing because he really liked you. Since Lin had assumed it was geared towards her and not Earendil, it made perfect sense.
"I know, it sounds really, really weird, but you just need to know how to read him. Which to say very few people know how to, but like... yes it was teasing, but he's also going down memory lane. My father will not just simply go down memory lane like a normal person because he is incapable of being nostalgic like a normal person. He doesn't like to be sappy, at least not in public."
Nadia tilted her head curious as to what was going on, she didn't really get it at all, but then she didn't have as much patience in figuring things.
Ryu though knew where this was going, because he was use to by now knowing how abnormal his family was.
"She's my niece. She's-"
He was cut off by someone pouncing on his back and he nearly lost his balance and fell over.
"Feng..." he sighed.
"Yessss?"

Earendil stared at Lin. Did she honestly not understand that Donovan had been getting at him, not her? He had been taking great pleasure in embarrassing Earendil.
No, he realized, Lin wouldn't see that. She hadn't even noticed how flustered he had been getting. Though he had been just as bad; once he had returned from his conversation with Shael, Lin had been acting strange, and he honestly didn't know if it had started before or during his conversation with Shael.
"If that wasn't sappy," he murmured finally, "I don't know what is."
Haldia had seen Feng coming up behind Ryu, but she hadn't expected her to jump on him. Still, it was funny, and she laughed. She didn't have to ask about their relationship: they looked so much like each other that it was clear.
And behind Feng was Aliya, looking the same as always, even though she had fully grown grandchildren. Behind her was River, skipping along happily.
"Hey, I know them!" the little girl beamed, tugging on her grandmother's hand and pointing at Haldia, Earendil and Lin. "I talked to them yesterday!"

Lin giggled at that, "I would suggest watch him when it's just him and Mom but I won't, because it isn't a bright thing to do."
She remembered many times in her childhood of spying where he was very sappy. Actually she recalled him being sappy when her mother was pregnant, that had so much potential for blackmail.
"Aliya!" Naida squealed out from where she was in the water.
She blinked and stared at River, she hadn't met River before.
"Hi!"
Not that it mattered.

Earendil smiled. "Not bright? As in he would threaten and possibly maim me for doing so?"
Somehow he could see that happening, or at least being threatened. In a way, he wished Donovan were more personable ... but on the other hand, it didn't particularly matter, since he had already made up his mind that he would not act on his emotions. That he could not act on his emotions.
Aliya laughed at Naida. "Hello, Naida!" she beamed. "Come, you need to meet my second granddaughter!"
River grinned at Naida. She had the same brown hair and dark skin as her father, and the same excited eyes. She waved. "It's nice to meet you!" she beamed. "It's fun to have visitors here! We haven't had anyone new in a while 'cept yesterday but now we have all kinds of fun visitors here!"

"You know... that's a good question, I can't see him doing that despite that's what everyone seems to assume," Lin admitted, "I personally think he would be more likely to glower at you or something like that."
Of course she had seen all sides of her father and rarely did it include maiming people, except slavers but they didn't count since that was to be a given.
"I mean, I don't know why he would bother, everyone knows he's a sap deep down inside with a heart of a marshmallow."
Okay she would never say that to her father's face, actually she might if she had enough time to run away.
Naida lifted herself out of the water and waved back happily, "It's fun visiting, because I get to meet new people and see new places!"

Earendil smiled softly. "Yeah ... I guess I can sort of see that."
Inwardly, he wished the man would find a different way to show it, though. One that was less obtrusive.
River giggled. "I like that, too!" she grinned. "I like to meet new people and see new places and learn new things!"
Aliya laughed and tweaked her granddaughter's nose playfully. "She's more like me than either of her parents," she grinned. "Alyse and Timaeus are both so reserved."

Lin smiled widely, "Don't let it get to you."
She patted his arm, she did want the two get along since it was her father and Earendil was the closest person she had growing up.
"I noticed," Ryu chuckled, "Jasmine was the last we saw her a lot like her mother, a shy one."
"Would you like to play with us?" Naida asked hopefully.
"Naida, it's already getting quite late," Feng murmured sheepishly she hadn't realized the time until she came back out.

Earendil smiled and put his hand over Lin's. "Most of the time," he murmured, "I'm pretty good at letting things pass. With the father I have, Valar know I have to be easy going to be able to live with him. Today .... it was just a whole different story. I don't think I've ever lost my temper like that before."
He chuckled softly. "Think it means something?" he teased her, half wondering if she would even understand what he was talking about.
River was excited about the idea. "I want to play, Grandmama! I want to play with her!"
She ran forward towards the river, but Aliya grabbed her by the hand to stop her.
"You need to be home for dinner soon," she said firmly. "There's no time to swim. Perhaps tomorrow."
"Awww ..."

Lin looked thoughtful for a moment, it was completely illogical that he would be so worked up over her father's teasing like that. She tilted her head, a sign that she was thinking hard. Her mind drifted back to the conversation she accidentally overheard back in Shael's home.
Earendil as far as she knew was in love, with someone. She didn't know who, but it was someone whom he considered a friend which cut down on the list considerably. Unless there was a girl out there that he knew and he never told Lin but why would that be? After all she was his best friend why wouldn't he tell her if there was a girl somewhere?
For that matter why was he not saying anything?
"That something Dad said hit too close to home?"
"It's not like we'll be leaving tomorrow," Feng assured the girl, "We'll still be here tomorrow. I'm sure Naida would be more than happy to play with you tomorrow."
"Yay! Tomorrow we can play then!" despite knowing that she would have to wait until tomorrow to play.

Earendil watched Lin closely. Was it possible that she may have figured it out? No ... from the look on her face, the lack of that certain something in her voice ... no, she couldn't know. If she did, she wouldn't be so nonchalant about it. Would she?
Impossible.
He sat up and stretched, choosing to avoid the question. "We should probably also get back to the ranch, it's a long way back, and Aliya was right, it's close to dinner time. I'm sure Haradhel will be waiting for us."
He took his feet out of the water and shook them off, then stood up and held a hand down to Lin to help her up.
Haldia spotted the movement, and she wondered if it was time for them to leave. She dove back into the water and started swimming back to them.
River clapped her hands together excitedly. "Yes! We can play tomorrow!" she beamed. "I'll see you tomorrow then, okay Naida? I'll see you here!"
Aliya laughed. "Yes, you will. Now come on, your father will be here soon to get you. Back to the house now."

He was obviously skipping the question, she had that happen to her too many times for her to not know that he was skipping the question. Lin took his hand though and used it to lift herself up.
The movement jostled Miyuki a bit who blinked beadly up at the fuzzy faces that was her mother and Earendil.
"I guess so, Mom and Dad must be waiting too."
Indeed they were, waiting outside of Ulani and Ulrich's home even though they weren't sure how Earendil was feeling about one of them at this point.
Naida waved happily back at her new friend, "See you tomorrow!"
