Well, didn't mean to hit enter, but I might as well do a new post for each category. The others'll be shorter than action. Repeats won't be re-summarized.

Various - I Walk Alone: Okay, it doesn't get much more character-profile-y than this. This video compares six people from various series and how they're all loners and all alike. Let's look at who they chose. Spike, duh. Vash, duh. Kenshin, duh. Trunks, okay, I can see that. The kid from FLCL, uh...I guess. Shinji, buh? Did they just say Shinji was like Spike? Interesting comparisons, sometimes. Fairly reccomended.

Full Metal Alchemist - Lost Soul: First of all, I love the song. "Nemo" is probably my favorite Nightwish song. The editing on this one's less elaborate than others, but I liked how they did it. The lyrics are almost perfect for Al and I did really like the mood and feel of this video. Reccomended.

Azumanga + others - 1985: This's the one Stream reccomended. While an excellent comedy video, the character profile aspect is often overlooked. It's an interesting look at Yukari. The comedy's also hilarious, as well. SSJ Osaka! Highly reccomended.

City Hunter and Sailor Moon - View to a Kill: I point out this video for one main reason, this is perhaps the best imitation of a James Bond movie opening I've ever seen. Check it out. It's hilarious.

Comedy: Another fiercely contested category. 1985 took it, but let's look at some of the others.

Full Metal Alchemist - Date Rape: Really, what can I say about this one? Absolutely hysterical, especially at the end. Very well matched to the lyrics. The lip-synch, where it is, is well done too. Highly reccomended.

Yami no Matsuei - Quid Pro Quo: "What would you do for the flying car?" Pretty sure the audio's from a Clerks sketch. Even to those who haven't seen YnM, like me, it manages to be great. Watch it. Now.
"What the hell kind of scientist is this guy anyway?"
"One with a lot of free time on his hands. And a foot fetish."

Various - The Race: Not as good as Shounen Bushidou. I didn't like this one as much as the others. Kinda meh. I do like the bit with Hughes at the end, though.

Dance, also known as the DDR Category. It tends to be one of the more flashy categories, as well as one of the shorter one, with most videos being under two minutes. The ones from here out will be shorter, as many are repeats of old summaries.

Mai Hime - Eurobeat: I never got around to watching Mai Hime, but this AMV made it look really cool. There's not a whole lot I can say that sets it apart from many other dance videos. It's a more action-dance than sentiment-dance (like the next one). It's worth a watch.

Air - Remember Me: Again, a fairly standard dance video, though the sentiment-dance vids are more rare than the action-dance or comedy-dance. Good video, awesome effect, worth checking out.

Kaliedescope Star - Spirit of the Stage: Remember what I said in the intro about this being a short category? Typically, there's a reason for that. A pure dance video cannot sustain interest for 4 minutes, as this one tries. By about two minutes, it seems to drag on until the end. For a long dance, you need something like Always Hardcore; wherein it needs to fit into another genre as well.

Azumanga Daioh - Waka Laka (For Osaka): Okay, maybe I'm biased towards this one, as Azumanga's on my Top 5 Series list, but I found this video the best of the lot. One way I measure Dance videos by is how much they make me tap my toes and this one suceeds very well in that. The video's very colorful and efects heavy (which leaves me questioning why I hated it in Technique Beat but loving it here. I think Dance is more forgiving of it) and is excellently timed. Everything pops up and talks exactly when it needs to. Definitely check it out.

On that note, I need to pick up the rest of Yotsuba &...

Drama's the last of the "Big Three" categories, but I find it to me the most maligned of them. Maybe it's just me, but I've always been a fan of the drama AMVs and their attempts to move beyond simple flash. Maybe I'm just like that, I guess, since I hold a certain fondness for both the Romantic and Sentimental categories as well. Most of the ones here have been covered already (Lost Soul, I Walk Alone, Jihaku), but let's get to the two others, both reccomended.

Various - In My Mind: This one's better than I remember. Highly tied into the romantic category as well. I did really like this one on rewatching it. I am kind of a sucker for happy romance-ish AMVs, so I may have a different perspective than others, but I found this one a very nice look at several anime couples. Even those from series I haven't watched were quite enjoyable.

Place Promised in our Early Days - Waking Hour: This video has everything going for it. Lovely animation. Simple, yet beautiful editing, Vienna Teng music. Koopiskeva AMV (he's pretty much the god of AMV creators, in my mind. He's the one who did Euphoria). Gotta love it. Simple, but excellent.

First is typically the worst category, in my reckoning. It's expected, as none of the big names are there. There are occasionally gems there (Such as the Greed and Envy "Anything you can do, I can do better" from last year). THere's a few this year, but not quite on the level of Greed vs. Envy.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 - It's not Enough: Thinking back to what Stream said, I tend to look poorly on Final Fantasy Music videos usually. There's not as much to work with, and they almost never end up being as good as those with more material. Maybe games like Xenosaga, with hours of cutscenes, work better in AMVs, but typically FF games don't. This is the exception. X and X-2 have more cutscenes that I view as workable into AMVs than the other games. Maybe it's because I'm still replaying X-2 at the moment and X is my favorite FF game at the moment (VI might go back to replacing it in a while, but I loved how much they went into character relations and such in X.), but I found this one to be excellent.

Full Metal Alchemist - Friendship test: Simple, not much fancy editing, but so hilarious, as I could imagine that happening in the series. XD

Mahoromatic - Never Lasting Happiness: Okay, I like Mahoromatic. Cool series with main characters who, despite being kinda cliche, are likable. This video does a good job capturing the more action-y elements of the series (especially the second season, which I haven't seen). I'd have liked them to show more of the dynamic between Mahoro ahd Sugaru, but judging by the song, that wasn't the intent. Still a video worth checking out.

Horror's never been my favorite category. Yeah, some good ones fall into it, like Mitternacht or Haunted, but in general, they're never quite good enough to warrant reccomendations. Let's go through this year's semi-good ones.

VHD/Blood/Hellsing - Mitternacht Special Edition: Great video, but I refuse to vote for something which is pretty much exactly the same video that won two or three years ago.

Various - Dead to the World: The only really Horror video this year. It's about the best pure horror I've seen. Slightly long, at around 20 minutes, it tries to tell, with anime and Marilon Manson music, the story of the anti-christ. Good subject for a horror AMV and it manages to convey each segment very well. Worth a look to those who like horror and such.

Naurto - Darkness over light, the other side of me: This is a good Naruto AMV, but not terribly horror-ish. I like the song and I like the video, but it's just not horror. I still reccomend it as a good Naruto video focusing on his internal struggle. Well suited to that, and I guess I can see how it might be construed as horror, but it's not horror enough to qualify it in my books.

That's it for AMV VCA for the moment. More categories may come later depending on whether or not people want me to continue with this (or even if they want other suggestions of AMVs. I have plenty. XD)

So I'm just a tool for Teh Man?! gonk

You've always been a tool... now you're just a slightly more useful tool.

I feel so used and mocked. gonk

So its more or less an average day in your life?

... gonk *goes and jumps off a cliff*

*waits at the bottom with a baseball mitt kaiser roll and mustard*

In other news, I:
a> Really should get myself a copy of FF9, since I lost my old one a while ago and really want to play my favorite FF again, before 12 has a chance to steal that title away.

b> really need to kill people that give FF9 AMVs shitty ratings just because it isn't 7 or 10.

B first, B first! domokun

I personally consider Zidane to be one of the most heroic of the FF main characters... mainly because he could have walked away from the whole mess easily, but didn't. Pretty much every other main (i.e. the one you started with and spent most of the game with) hero was roped into things and had no real choice.

Plus, he wasn't the goddamn emo mess most of the others have been... he was a genuinely good guy who made the best of whatever situation he was in.

Besides, Garnet and Beatrice were hot. And they're some of the only females to break the mold established in 7 and continued in 8, 10, and 10-2.

And the whole black mage plotline rocked hardcore.

:/ I wasn't as keen on the plot for some reason, at least not as much as you all sound. Granted, it was MUCH better than seven's, and trasitioned really well, but I'll always like 3/6 more because:
1. Open-Endedness extreme. So much to do to get everything in the game. Tower of Magic for example. That and collecting characters/Espers. lol
2. Lots of character development, for every character in the game. Each main had their own arch, quite a feat with some dozen characters.
3. Sabin. Fighting combos in an RPG? mrgreen
4. Kefka. ...What? You mean I have to give a reason? *Spoilers* How about one of the most fiendish, dedicated, and lowest villian ever? How can you not appreciate a villian who can start out at the bottom and stil end up with so much power? That requires a hell of a lot more work than most, not all, of the main villians have put forth recently.

...come to think of it, Kefka and Kuja are a lot alike... ninja

the time has come for the youngsters to tell people what to do it seems surprised

gonk

Every day I spend on Gaia is another step I come closer to eating a bullet on the day the next generation takes over the reins of power.

Then I realize that I'll be able to use that bullet on the ******** when they don't listen to me telling em to get off my lawn... and it suddenly seems better.
I advise a .50 AE dumdum slug ;o

People like TN here get me thinking more along the lines of depleted uranium core.. rated in full milimeters too.

And yes, I'm dicussing artillery here.
but think, it's easyer to get a desert eagle or grizzly magnum into your house than a piece of artillery surprised

If I'm gonna cap myself, I want the neighborhood to know.

And if I'm gonna shoot someone else, I don't want to have to shoot twice.

Hooray for massive cosplay thingy!

So my costume designer says captains will be 200 dollars and Vice captains will be 150. She's desiging the shinigami captain robes from Bleach.

So yeah, I know many of you aren't as into anime and stuff as you used to be, but if you want to hop on and pick a captain or vice captain, you'll be getting a cool outfit out of the deal. lol.
But that'd mean doing the rest of the outfit, including weird hair and all.

Wait, maybe I'll just go for Aizen. I look closest to him anyways. XD

RAWR! I was going to go as Aizen.
