Cody was frowning deeply now. "I didn't know you weren't human when I fell in love with you," he pointed out, softly. "I thought we'd have our forever. And knowing that you'll be alone for dozens and dozens of my life over, it changes things. And I'm going to do it, Dari."

"You're not the one who's going to die," Dari said, "Nothing will change between us but age, and even then we don't know in this form." He was ignoring the insistence that it was going to be done regardless.

"You'll be alone!" Cody pointed out. "Listen," he said. "This way, you'll never have to be alone. You won't have thousands of years to suffer. I'm going to be there. And I'll hold you. I want to do this."

Dari knew he had no say, of course. He knew that Cody was a grown-a** man and he was old enough to make his own decisions. That didn't mean that a worried Dari wasn't going to fight him on it.
"You don't understand!"
Would it really not hurt?

Cody sighed. "Then help me understand," he said. "I told Lori I didn't want to go crazy, and he said willing werewolves don't usually. He said it won't hurt, and as long as I have supportive family--" he hesitated and reached for Dari's hand. "I won't hurt anyone."

Dari pulled his hand away before Cody could get to it. He knew what a touch might mean for his resolve.
"No! You've never seen it happen, and he's no werewolf!"

"You told me Lori knew everything about everything!" Cody pointed out. His hand fell to his side. "Love, I need to do this!"

"You don't need to do anything!" By this point Dari was shouting, something he rarely did out of the field and almost never for any reason other than to be heard.

Cody stared. He'd never heard Dari shout before. Much less at him. "Yes, I do," he said. "I can't stand the thought of you being alone for the rest of forever. I love you! I want to be with you! Love, please try to understand."

Dari had run out of counter-points. He just stood there, and he turned his head back toward Cody. His eyes were slightly wet, and with him not moving or looking away it was hard to avoid. His lower lip was set into a frown.

Cody took a step towards Dari. "Love..." He began. He hadn't meant to make the guy cry! "I'm sorry," he said, and moved to hug him.

Dari put his hands up as if to stop Cody's chest and stepped back. No. No hugs. He'd lose it.

Cody ignored Dari's hands and wrapped his arms around him.

Dari's hands remained pressed against Cody's chest and neck, then relaxed slightly as he remained tensed, then it all sort of fell into Cody as Dari wrapped his arms around him in reciprocation.
A sob wracked Dari's frame, a second was audible,and he shifted, sniffled, and rested his head against Cody's shoulder.

Cody rubbed Dari's back soothingly. He wasn't sure how else to react... He'd expected anger, not this. "I love you," he said.
