Cody pushed the door open fully and took a step towards Dari. "What the hell are you doing?!" He demanded. He sounded furious, but his eyes were wide with fear. Was Dari really suicidal because he was human? "How do I make this stop?" He asked.
Stitches didn't work on a membranous alien, he was sure!

"Purging!" That probably didn't help his case at all. He lifted the blade far above his head so Cody couldn't get it. He had enough sense to not use his slashed arm.
"I'm fine, I'm fine!"
In fact, he was nearly done draining.

"Purging? You're losing all the liquid in your arm!" Cody reached for the blade to no avail. "Dari! Stop it!" He fretted. "Love, you're not fine."

"I am fine!" he insisted, nodding down toward his arm. The leaking had stopped. There was a second membrane within to hold the rest of his being inside of his body. "Can you turn the water on for me?"
Anything to distract him! Dari put his ring back on and removed the bucket from the sink. His arm appeared bloody. He then took the ring off again and was back to a purge alien form.

Cody turned the water on as instructed. His eyes narrowed at the sight of blood on Dari's other form. "You're not fine," he retorted. "You're bleeding!"

"It only looks like blood then," Dari said. He sidled up to the sink and rinsed off his arm. It had already healed to a light seal. "See? I accrue waste, just like anyone. Eating does it. I just get bigger when it's not something my body needs. So I purge the waste." With his conscious effort, the wound sealed up before Cody's eyes.
"See? I'm a very hard thing to kill, love."

Cody inspected Dari's arm carefully. He wrapped his arms around him then and held him tightly. "Isn't there another way?" He asked. "So you don't have to cut yourself open?"

Dari returned the hug and stroked Cody's back.
"I suppose that I could technically burst myself open, but that would take longer," he said. "I can't feel pain in this form, remember, and my membrane isn't my life, not like humanity."

"No don't do that," Cody shook his head. He didn't release Dari. "I thought you were going to die," he said, and hugged Dari tighter.

"No, no, I won't die," he said. "Even if I was shot, I wouldn't die. I promise you. I won't leave you."

Classes had been going rather well, really. Lori had been a bit nervous at first to take on the duties of teaching with one of the Family Services people, but after the first night he just sort of fell into the swing of things. He figured that it was helpful to have someone around to ask about things who wasn't obligated to only speak well of the system. Of course, he also had nothing bad to say.
Right now he was gathering up the paper from today's exercise while Toby lounged with Luca and Maia in the seats, waiting for him to finish so they could go out together.

Maia was looking forward to the next class. She'd always enjoyed class work, but this was even better. They were working towards being able to adopt an entity!
And they were going out to dinner. What restaurant, she wondered. Chinese again? Maybe sushi?

Lori tossed the paper scraps into the recycle bin and came to the others with his books in a canvas bag.
"So how are we today?" he asked, perching on a chair.
"Well, that exercise was a little depressing."
"Yeah, well, adoption's hard for the kids too."
"Of course."

"It was hard," Maia agreed. She took Toby's hand, frowning in thought. Those poor babies. Suffering so much at an early age. It was awful.
"I hope we can help," she said. "where did you want to eat?"

Lori shrugged. "Me? How about sushi? We haven't gone in a while."
"Only if Maia eats eel," Toby teased, reaching out and pinching Maia's arm with a grin.
