Lord Malkav
Concerning the 5th editions rule that makes vehicles harder to kill, what is the exact wording of that rule? Do glancing hits have no effect period, or what?

Uh, there isn't any specific 'rule' that makes vehicles harder to kill, it's a series of changes to the way vehicle cover, and vehicle damage is worked out that have contributed to tougher vehicles.

And if you were to follow the rules to the letter, then glancing hits could not destroy the Monolith. It could still be hurt by glances, but not killed. This is because the best result you can get on a glance is immobilized. On other vehicles, multiple weapon destroyed and immobilizations eventually add up to a destroyed result when the vehicle is already immobile and has no weapons left to destroy. However, the flux arc is never destroyed, it just gets a -1 to it's number of shots.

Most sensible players simply play that it is destroyed when it gets to -6 since you can't actually ever shoot anything with it then. However, the rules never actually say to do this. The Monolith just says that whenever it would suffer a Weapon Destroyed result, it gets -1 to the number of shots that the flux arc puts out rather than losing the weapon. Technically you could get 30 weapon destroyed results and the flux arc would still be there, but at d6-30 shots at each unit in range since the rules never tell us that 0 shots = destroyed for the flux arc.

Alright, I've read the pdf reference sheet at the games workshop website, So I think I understand now.
In other words, the Gauss rule's vehicle effect, while weakened somewhat, still works, especially if you get a lot of shots on an opponent.
Thats what I wanted to know.

This is your first warning. Seeing as you just joined, it can slide. Go read through the rules fully.

None of us are really all that mature, we just like to stay on topic from time to time.

High strength and power weapons. That's all you need. As far as it goes, I think I remember that "We'll Be Back" is negated by "Instant Death" weapons.

I haven't read my codex in while, I've working on my choas marines a lot more lately. (don't worry I'll offer myself up to the Nightbringer later, that'll balance it out)) But if I remember correctly, having a lord with resuerrection orb or tomb sypders nearby to warriors allows them to have a "we'll be back" roll even after an instant death hit

We were alone and on our own, in the dark between the stars
From the shadows to the pyre, amidst the chaos, from the stars
Love, life and liberty, Hate, death and captivity
Like a stain of starless darkness, across the canvas of space

Oh, trust me, I know that. The Black Messiah's right about the resurrection orb. My friend uses it all the damn time and it bugs the hell out of me when I try to tear him apart.

That's when I keep killing his Lord until it stays dead. ^^

Yeah its annoying, and i play tau and the only thing i usualy use with instant death is railguns, i choose to use those for monoliths or necron elites first

As I see it, the most terrifying wargear kit on a Necron Lord is the Phylactery/Res Orb combo. What's that? You cone back to life with three wounds?

Faaaaaack. Though, there are some things that help balance it. Tomb Spyders are Monstrous Creatures, so they can be sniped down early in the game.
