ahh...yea first clarinet is pretty hard most of the time ^.^v

in symphonic band I have second clarinet, so I don't get the main melody all the time...but in concert band I'm in third chair heart

wah, yesterday I was playing my clarinet and for thirty minutes I sat there trying to tune my clarinet, I did everything! (except do anything to the reed except move it up and down continously) It was still flat, so finally I decided to move up to size 3 1/2 (i have one box full of them in case) and my sound wasn't flat...when you need to move up a size, does the reed your on make you play out of tune? :/ i'm curious...

yes. when i used a 2 from 4th-6th grade i was perfectly in tune all the time. when i used 2 1/2, i was sharp and i had to pull out the thickness of a nickel. 3 was pretty much in tune and 3 1/2 was the slightest bit sharp. it depends on the person, the clarinet, and especially the reed and how the person adjusts to it.

Music rocks!! I've been playing clarinet for 6 years and I also play saxophone.... Please don't beat me up.... Clarinet rocks and I love to play all of my instruments. I'm first chair with both of my instruments. I have a problem.... The second chair clarinet player is very jealous of me... we were good friends, but now she is so jealous because I'm first chair. What houd I do???

i've been playing clarinet for five years.
i left in eight grade concert band to a mediocre school with possibly the worst music program in um, well ..the state. there was only one band class and experience varied from a year of playing to twelve years of playing so those with better abilites had to compromise themselves.
i decided this year, twelvth grade, that i'd transfer schools to a better band. and somehow i was accepted into symphonic band.
not that anyone asked for a story..but..i thought i'd tell it. it makes me uncontainably happy.

i am one of the most unlucky people in all of band history. today in full orchestra 7th pd, there are four clarinets and there were only three chairs. i was stuck without a chair so i stole a trombone chair although i didnt know it. our drum major, a trombone player says hey thats a trombone seat and he pulled the chair away when i was sitting down and i fell on the floor. pretty much no one noticed. but when we were playing (clarinets sit in front of trombones) i had my hair in a ponytail and i felt a trombone slide hitting my hair for like 15 seconds. i didnt say anything though. before after school orchestra we were sitting in the band room and josh (a percussionist) comes up to me and says hey im josh whats your name. i ignored him, he's annoying. he said i was ugly and i called him stupid. he left. 5 mins later he sits in a chair behind me and punches me really hard in the stomach. charlie, the first chair, im second, says what are you gonna do? i ignored him. he said you can be a b***h sometimes (to me) and i said thank you. (i regret saying that) he didnt talk to me for the rest of band.

D: thats terrible!!!

You shouldn't show that you'll give up just because of the way they are treating you, stay strong and pretend it doesn't affect you, I'm sure your conductor will notice soon. If he/she doesn't and it gets worse, tell him/her

I kind of have the same problem, the first and second chair clarinetist (I'm third) hates me! I don't know why, I did nothing and they just love to talk behind my back, once when I was absen both of them were like, "Yes! She's not here!" those guys...I'm so mad at them crying they think they are the best! I think it has to do with me being section leader -o-;;;

if i tell my bd then he will either 1: scream at them and make me feel like an idiot or 2: do nothing or say itll pass or something like that or 3: yell at me because he'll think im a liar. (what a kind and caring bd i have!)

how would you know if they said that when you werent there in the first place?

as for advice for you, there will always be people like that around. ive gained at least 5 enemies this year but my friends outnumber my enemies. you should rely on your friends in the section/ the band/ the school and inform your bd about it if he/she would be the type to actually care.

P.S. how do they pick section leaders?

we dont really have a section leader or assigned parts, but we have someone in our section that takes attendance. we basically pick parts and chairs for ourselves, but id rather try out.
