A little laugh echoes from the spy.

"If it makes you look like that, I probably shouldn't try it. Would join you anyway, but I'm already in bed. And I don't feel like getting dressed again."

Iri shifts in the bed. Her wings slip out from under the blanket and resettle, this time on top of the blanket instead of her back. The proximity had been making her a little too warm to be comfortable. She lays her head back down and closes her eyes. Maybe she can rest a little now.

His eyes glaze over in a daydreaming expression, though it might not be just for Iri's amusement this time.

The air spy just sits there in front of Reeve for a moment. It's an awkward silence, in which Iri's trying to figure out what's going on. Then it hits her. She's seen that expression before. They once got very close to... Well, she'll just leave it at they got very close. Iri hasn't been deflowered. She made sure that didn't happen. Partly because she was making regular trips to home at the time, and her mother would have gone ballistic had she found out. Also, as Reeve had earlier said, it wouldn't be beneficial to be in troublesome times at a ninja academy and be changing diapers on an angel-winged, fox-eared child. Teaching something like that to be disciplined enough to contain the Fury in it would be hell. But, she figures he's thinking back to a couple years ago.

Grinning, though slightly red in the cheeks, Iri allows her spy to bump Reeve in the shoulder and it says, "Thinking about old times, you pervert?"

(( -bump- Hey, Listen!))

"I don't see how it matters," Reeve replies with mock indignation, taking another sip of 'beer'. "Geez, I can't get naked without you knowing, can't picture you getting naked without you knowing- no wonder it's so tense lately. Can't have any fun!"

(( You telling me to listen to something? Or you making jokes 'bout my RPing? ))

Iri laughs again and sits up in bed. Both wings wrap around her to ward off the cold. Sleep isn't happening. Even if she weren't talking to Reeve. Her head is too full of thoughts.

"What did I say about that? I don't care if you're naked! If you're talking about your thing with Ishira, yeah I was spying. Spying, because I thought something was up with how she suddenly disowns Tutsumi and goes after you. It was obvious. So sorry you didn't get to relieve yourself of at least one of your frustrations. And you really think I give a damn if you picture me naked? You wanna tease yourself like that, that's your own problem, sweetie. The real thing's been here the whole time."

Apparently, Iri's a little bolder since Reeve saw her last.

(( No, I was comparing your air spy to Navi, from Zelda.))

Reeve doesn't respond verbally, but all mirth is wiped from his face. Quietly setting the bottle down, he makes the 'this is bad beer' face one last time as he swallows the last of it. There's a scraping sound as Reeve backs his chair away from the table and dismisses himself.

(( Oh! I've never played Zelda. No wonder that went over my head. ))

Iri sighs and hangs her head. One hand comes out from the warmth of her wings to cover her face. Now she's done it. She took the joke a little too far. The air spy follows after him in a panicked manner.

"Did I just hit a nerve? Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you mad. Really, I was aiming to make you spew your beer or something. Would've been massive points on my part."

The air spy stops following, and it issues a sigh. That's why she tends to keep her mouth shut. Used to, anyway. Only person she's ever been able to really joke around with was Psyche.

Reeve doesn't reply- he just shakes his head as he leaves the kitchen. Tightening his bandage, he steps outside the dojo and stares at the horizon. It's the Wolf Moon, biggest full moon of the year.

Yep, she's really done it. He won't even talk to her. So much for joking around. It never does turn out well with her.

Iri throws the blanket out of her way and slips out of the bed. Quickly, she puts on her hakama and the corset top. Well, as quickly as she can, anyway. The thing takes forever to lace up. A new form of clothing is definitely in order. Then she slips on her tabi and sandals. The sleeves, scarf, and belt stay where they are. The knife, after a moment of thought, gets stowed away where most of her things are: The air itself. Ready to go, she wraps her wings around herself and disappears. When she reappears, it's outside.

Violet eyes look around out of habit. She always takes in her surroundings when she moves that way. Too much can be missed. Her spies tell her Tier and Kwubara are outside, but not close enought to eavesdrop. Then her eyes flick from Reeve to the moon. If it weren't so cold, it would be a nice night. She gives it a while, then cautiously speaks up.

"If I had thought I would make you mad, I wouldn't have said it. I guess it wasn't... I dunno. I guess I should have been more professional, or something."

She pauses, and finally looks from the moon to him.

"You're right. Things have been tense. I just wanted to break the ice for good, ya know? Tired of walking on eggshells with everyone."

Reeve sighs, still watching the moon. He holds up his hand, counting his fingers.

"I don't think I could bring myself to tell the whole story- nor would anyone want to hear it. But Sarya, my first love, married me and gave me a son. She left me, Dalcon got taken away, and eventually, she died. Raised from the dead- I've still not figured out the how or why, and I lose her again, trying to get my son...who hates me."
One.

"Fenris, I guess, pretended to have some sort of honest interest, but she wanted Tutsumi like a hound wants bacon, and the minute they were alone, she jumped on Neko. Then I find out -from Ishira, of all people, that she ran off with Tutsumi."
Two.
"Speaking of Ishira- hell, you KNOW what happened there."
Three.

"And this is completely separate, but connected. Nekojiri steals my fiancee, as I mentioned, makes war on his former friends, badmouths me, Sarya, and steals my son- Eirra only knows what he's doing to him even now, not to mention what he did to me... he was my best friend, once. He was just as much my brother as Tutsumi was. And now my only goal in life is to kill him. He- he said it was my fault, that I'm too weak to protect anyone, and too afraid to really suffer doing anything about it."

Four. The hand closes in a tightly-clenched fist, and and he turns to face Iri, tears streaming down his face at this point.

"I'm so tired, Irianna! Something happens to everyone I choose to get attached to. They either hurt me or get hurt, and you sit there and tell me you've just been waiting- like I could allow any of this social virus I seem to have get to you? I'm al-almost thankful we haven't gone any further. If we had, you probably wouldn't be here right now."

Iri looks at him just long enough to hear him out, then closes her eyes and furrows her brow. She can't stand to see him cry. It hurts her more than it makes sense for it to hurt.

"So, are you saying you've given up on caring for anyone?" She opens her eyes and forces herself to look him straight in the face. It takes all she's got to keep herself from crying, too. "No wonder you're so self-sacrificial. Caring is what keeps me going, keeps me motivated. Otherwise, this place would have drove me crazy a long time ago."

Iri takes a few steps toward him, still keeping a bit of distance. Then she looks back at him with a rueful, lopsided grin. "Am I going to get hurt? Yeah, I'm sure I will. Comes with the field, I would think. But am I going to leave? Or hurt you? No. No matter what happens, I'll always be here. I like to say I've just got a loyal heart and enough strength to back it up, but you might just call me stubborn like that."

The grin turns into a sad smile. "I know you've been through more pain than what a lot of people can handle, but it does get better, Reeve. I know it does. I've been through it, too. But getting through it alone is the most destructive thing you can do to yourself. You can't stand alone for the rest of your life because your past makes you afraid of getting close. I tried it, believe it or not. People just aren't meant to be alone."

Reeve shakes his head, sighing. " I don't know what to say, Iri. I r-really don't..."

Violet eyes close and Iri lets her head bow. Without looking at him, she speaks again. "Twice. We tried being in a relationship twice. Each time, I was happier than I can remember being at any other time in my life. And even though it hurt like hell when we separated, I still can't say I regret letting it happen. You know what hurt the most in my life? Finding you and thinking you were dead. That there was no chance that I would get any of the same happiness back. Thinking that you've given up on loving, that hurts almost as much as thinking you're dead."

Iri opens her eyes again. Keeping them closed had helped fight back her tears. Now she takes a step forward, opens her wings a little, and reaches out to wipe Reeve's tears away with hands still warm from the protection of her feathers. Then she pulls away with a sad expression on her face.

"Unlike you, I know exactly what I want to say. But I can't, because I know it hurts you. I had hoped I was one of the best things to happen to you, but from your perspective, I guess I'm really one of the worst. I'm sorry, Reeve."

She takes a few steps back, and goes to say something else. But a lump rises in her throat, and she finds she can't talk for fear of sobbing. So she just shakes her head and turns around, about to go back inside.

Somewhat predictably, Reeve puts a hand on her shoulder. "Don't go. You know I don't want you to..."

Good judgement tells Iri to move. Someone else probably would have. But she stays. She doesn't reach up to touch his hand, but she doesn't shrug it off, either. Iri turns a little and looks at him through a few locks of hair that have escaped her braid and won't stay behind her ear. Confusion is in her eyes.

"Why? As much as I would love to be the person that makes you happy for once in your life, and to be the cure to your 'social virus', you won't let me. You're determined to keep yourself in the hell you've made for yourself. So why?"
