The nymph began to walk around. "There tree, Poppy!" She pointed to her tree. "There Reese!" She pointed to the guardian. "Reese boss," she confided. "I boss too!"
Reese sighed. "I think I liked it better when all she could say was Poppy," he complained.

"That's a very nice tree! --Yes, I see him --Oh, you're the boss too?" Toby chuckled and shook his head. "They always grow up, Reese. You were like this once too!" Just a really long time ago, and presumably for a really long time.

"I best boss," the nymph decreed, and gave Toby a smile. How did she get him out of what he was in, anyway? The toddler sat, studying the beacon. "How Poppy small?" She asked.

"You're seeing a picture," Toby said. How could he make it simple enough for a toddler to understand? "You see me, and I see you, but we're not together. It's like magic." It wasn't, but he had a feeling the nymph would have a better idea what magic was versus fiber optics.

A picture? But pictures didn't move. Reese had shown her pictures. The nymph looked confused. "Magic," she echoed, and seemed to accept that explanation. "Like magic," she said. "Luh Poppy!"

Toby chuckled again.
"I love you too! You tell Reese when you want to call. If I can answer, I will, okay?"

Reese groaned. "You know she'll want to call every day!" He complained. He came over and say by the nymph. "I hope she doesn't cry like today though. Nothing I did could stop her."
"Luh Poppy," the nymph said, looking to Reese and frowning. "My Poppy!" She pushed at him. "MINE!"

"Well, I don't work weekends," Toby replied to Reese. Then he turned his attention back to the nymph.
"No, no! You have to share with Reese! He has to tell them when you call who you're calling for. He knows my special name." 'Special Agent Aikley'was hardly 'special,' but he didn't want her to feel stupid for not using it or potentially even knowing it at all. Even 'Toby' would suffice. "Don't worry, I promise to talk to you too."

The nymph sent a pout in Toby's direction. She didn't like sharing with Reese! She had to share the forest with him already! "Kay," she agreed. "My Poppy. Miss you. Luh you!"

"I miss you too, honey, and I love you too!" Toby said with a nod, "How about the next time you call, maybe tomorrow or the day after, we read a story? We can do that over the magic box."

"Story!" The nymph agreed. She wasn't entirely sure what a story was--but it was Poppy suggesting it. "Soon?" She asked. "'Morrow?"

"Sure. Dari and I will go pick out a book for you," Toby agreed. Tomorrow wasn't so bad. They could just stop by the superstore on the way home. "Then tomorrow we can have story time, okay?"

"I'll call you tomorrow. Afternoon?" Reese guessed.

Oop! Apparently their call was over. At least she had stopped crying!
"Love you too! Good bye!" Then to Reese: "Sure, absolutely."

"I don't know how to end a call," Reese admitted. The nymph waved at Toby. "You cheered her up, though. Like magic. Maybe we ought to switch jobs."
