"Especially in the Victorian era," Dari agreed, but he knew Michael well enough to know he didn't react all that negatively to such things. He followed Cody, watching them interact casually.
"Hello," Michael said, offering his hand, "I heard you're afraid of me." He was smiling, though. "It's a bit cool. I apologize." His hand, of course.

"I'm not afraid of you," Cody immediately lied. He took Michael's hand and shook it. "Maia says you saved Toby's life," he said. "That makes you a good guy." Even if he was a ghost. Yikes!

Michael smirked wickedly. Immediately Dari expected something. Michael tilted his head slightly.
"Yes you are. And I'll take pity on you, this time," he said. The shake was indeed a bit cool, but it was strong and decidedly non-creepy. "Well. He's a coworker who deals with me, it's the least I could do." Dari knew it was more than that, but let it be.
"It's nice to finally meet you," Michael continued, "I've heard a lot about you. You want to be allied, do you?" He slipped off of the desk soundlessly and his feet made no noise when they hit the floor.

Well, the handshake wasn't too bad. A little cool, but Michael had warmed him. He certainly was polite! "Erm, thank you," he said. "I'm glad you did. Toby's a great guy."
"Yes, Dari told me about it. I could have entities in my classroom if I'm allied." He looked to Dari. "I'd like to help, if I can."

"That's true," Michael said. "You've met Kevin? He's a good boy. I frightened him once unwillingly but quite badly. He still visits, though. We still play games." He was glad that he hadn't lost his only 24/7 available friend with that whole incident.
"Anyway, I hope you enjoy your tour. I apologize now if I scare you at any time in the future," the ghost said, "and please do remember to ring the bell if you want to come in, hm?"
Rather than fade away, he walked away, but he did walk right through his own door. He wasn't intending to be scary, though, so any nervousness was purely of Cody's conjuring.

Oh, so the ghost was friends with Kevin? That was nice. Surely a ghost who befriended children couldn't be that bad. "Thank you," he said. "I will."
He looked to Dari, almost missing the ghost's exit. "What would you like to do now?" He asked. He looked towards Michael's door and shivered. "How do I become an ally?"

"Well, if you can hold off on lunch we can get your an interview and fill out the application?" Dari posed. He couldn't resist any longer and faintly brushed Cody's hair off of his forehead. It was just that little touch, though, and nothing more.

"Sounds good," Cody agreed, and smiled at Dari. "I'm really looking forward to this part." He hoped he'd be able to become an ally. "After work, come to my place?"

"Sure," Dari said with a nod. "We can go get late lunch. My treat. or I can try to cook, if you like." He walked with Cody toward Processing.
"We'll probably be able to get you an interview for sooner rather than later. We don't get many applicants for many things, and when we do get a referral we tend to have to discard them. One wrong move and you're out, but it is an international bureau of investigation, so I understand. I'll drive you in on the day of, though. otherwise we'd need to get you a pass, and that in and of itself is a pretty terrible process.""

"We can cook together," Cody offered, and smiled at Dari. "Maybe something simple. Pasta?" He considered that and shrugged. "I can't burn that."
"Sounds good," he agreed. "Honestly, I'll get lost coming without you."

"That sounds good to me," Dari said. "I can show you the apartments later. You're not supposed to be able to, but again, you're my lover. That wins you certain privileges." He smiled to Cody.

"Sure," Dari nodded. He didn't have any food in his apartment, so he assumed that Cody wanted to head back to his place.

When they got home, Cody went to the kitchen. He took out a large pan and makings for spaghetti before turning to Dari. "Are you starved?" He asked. "Or do you want to watch a movie?" And maybe some snuggling, too.

Dari came up behind Cody and wrapped his arms around him. He kissed his cheek.
"I don't feel hunger, love, remember?" he said. "It's all up to you."
