Michael nodded and stood.
"If I may ask, why did you turn away from the light? At death, there is a warm white light. Those who turn away from it find themselves earthbound. Usually it's some extreme emotions." Then again, Oscar didn't remember everything anyway.
"Come. We'll do this in privacy."

"I heard my daughter crying," Oscar said. "She asked me to stay, so I did... But she stopped visiting after that. I've been alone." He sighed. He'd never been able to deny that girl anything, even in death.
He nodded. "Let's," he agreed, and followed Michael.

Ah. A loved one's prayer. Michael had to imagine that that was pretty common.
Michael led Oscar to the bedroom and stood waiting. When the man seemed settled-in and interested, he nodded.
"I want you to close your eyes, and imagine your wife, and your family members. Imagine joining them in a place that is warm and welcoming and safe."

Oscar closed his eyes and tried to imagine his wife and family. Somewhere warm, welcoming and safe? It sounded a lot like heaven. He did so, the corners of his lips turning upwards.
"I can see them," he said.

Michael smiled. He saw them too. He offered a wave. Someone lifted a hand and waved back. Rose, he assumed?
"You can open your eyes," Michael said.
Oscar, in the meantime, looked like quite a younger man! He was back in the prime of life.
A few feet from the bedroom wall stood a portal of bright white light, with a small group of people silhouetted at the top of what appeared to be a long staircase or ramp. It was hard to tell with such bright lighting.
"Go ahead," Michael said.

Oscar opened his eyes. He paused and looked down at himself. ...What? Well, hey! He was young again! And... He could see Rose. He hadn't been imagining it.
He went towards the light, taking Rose's hand. He waved to Michael with his free hand.

Michael lifted a hand to say goodbye and watched the group disappear into nothingness, as the light was wont to do. When it was all gone he dropped his hand and just stared at the empty space a moment.
Well then.
He came back out and appeared to Toby and Dari.
"It's done."
"Huh," Toby said, "Two days. That's not bad at all."

The phone conversation had been a bit odd from Toby's side. It was fairly clear that he was trying to not talk about the actual subject too much, keeping up with mostly affirmatives. He kept shooting glances Maia's way too, as if she might overhear and be upset.
When it was over, he hung up with his back half to Maia, and then turned to her with a smile.
Well then. This could be a big step.
"Uh."
How to bring it up?

Maia had become suspicious with Toby's responses during his phone call. Was it another mission? Was something wrong? --No, he was smiling. She set her book down and beckoned him over.
"What is it?" She asked.

"Uh. Well." Toby stretched his neck both ways, almost as if to crack it. Then he turned back to Maia. "They're doing another round of classes at HQ, and Lori wanted to know if we wanted to join. They don't do them especially often." He cleared his throat.
"They're for the adoption of entity children. You have to be registered and all."

More classes? Not often? And Toby seemed awkward... Hm. What kind of class was it?
"Adoption?" Maia leaned up to kiss his cheek, and wrapped her arms around him. "I'd love to take them," she said. If he did? She'd seen him with that baby nymph. "I love you!"

Toby laughed. Oh, good! It was a little more than he had been expecting either way but at least it was positive over-excitement.
"You take the whole round once, and then you just have to go to one or two classes a year to keep up. Lori's already on the list, believe it or not, but apparently Luca wants to get in too so he's taking them over again."

"When do they start?" Maia asked, taking Toby's hand. This week? Tomorrow? "I think Lori and Luca would be great parents," she said, thoughtfully. "Did you tell Lori we were interested?" She asked. "Should I text him?"

Cody was nervous and excited all at once. They were headed to Dari's work. He looked over to Dari and gave him a small smile. He hoped everything went well. He didn't want to upset Dari, or offend some creature that might decide to eat them.
"I'm looking forward to seeing where you work," he said. "Could we see Kevin again?"
