Oscar frowned as he considered. "But you haven't crossed over," he pointed out. "There must be another way." He didn't want to leave his house behind.

"I cannot," he said. "No light will accept me. I believe that it is my duty to help others who are stuck here on earth." That had nothing to do with why the light spat him out, but nobody had any ideas there.
"If you cross over, you can be with your family. You'll be young again."

Michael couldn't? Oscar frowned in concern for his new friend. "So once you finish helping everyone, you can come?" He asked. He paused, quiet for a long while. He could see Rosie again? He'd be young again?
"I want to go," he said. To be with his beloved...

Michael shrugged. "I do hope so."
A smile crossed his face then. Oh, good! "I think you'd be amazed at how many people fight it." Of course they tended to be more than a little bit off of their rocker.
"If you want, though, we have some updates on your family? Pictures and things," Toby piped up from the couch. He too was smiling now.
Michael nodded. "Indeed. We're not entirely certain that you will actually be able to 'watch from the heavens,' so, as you have surviving family, we would be more than willing to share first."

Why would people fight the chance to be with the people they love most? The very idea baffled Oscar. "I'd love updates," he said. He hadn't seen his children for so long... Did they have children now? "I really appreciate this," he added, looking to Toby, then Michael.

Toby smiled. "Can I go get the reports?"
Michael gestured to the couch for Oscar. "Go ahead and sit down."

"Of course," Oscar gestured Toby out. The reports were undoubtedly in their tent. Or maybe their car... Didn't really matter. "Be quick about it," he added. "I want to see my grandchildren."
He sat down. "Sit with me, Michael."

"and great-grandchildren," Toby added with a grin before popping out the back door.
Michael sat beside Oscar, still smiling.

"Great grandchildren?" Oscar asked, amazed. Just how long had he been dead? It didn't seem like it'd been very long at all. "I'd like to see all of them," he said. "I've missed so much."

"We have pictures," Michael said, "You seemed coherent enough to reason with, so we found all we could. Considering we're an international bureau, we found quite a bit."
When Toby returned, Dari was with him, also smiling. Toby plopped down beside Oscar with a manila folder and offered it to him. Within were reports on his immediate family and many, many pictures. Dari was able to offer names and locations for each, what with the eidetic memory and all.

Oscar took the folder and opened it. He went through it slowly, gazing at each picture for at least a minute. Sometimes longer. He started to smile. "They're all so happy," he said, but he didn't turn his gaze away from the image he was currently focused on. "She looks so much like Rosie," he said, pointing to the picture of a little girl. "She would've been so happy."
But maybe she was. Maybe she could see them. Michael implied an afterlife--hell, didn't his existence prove it? "What's her name?" He asked

"Does she?" Dari asked, "Her name is Leann."
"Your wife will be waiting for you," Michael said.Presumably Rose hadn't murdered anyone or anything. He still wasn't sure if those people got white light too.

"Leann," Oscar repeated, with a smile and flipped to the next picture.
"She's waited a long time, my Rose. Our kids are grown up! Their babies have babies." Poor Rose. She'd been waiting all this time... "I want to finish looking," he said. "Then, you'll help me get to Rosie?"

"Yes, of course. It's easy to cross over," Michael said.
Toby didn't comment. Neither he not Dari had any idea, nor did they plan on dying any time soon.

Oscar doubted it. If it were easy, then he would've gone before. He didn't correct Michael, though. He finished with the folder and quietly offered it to Toby. He looked to Michael.
"I'm ready."
