MY CLARINET CAN EAT YOUR CLARINET!!!
no seriously. i have not yet ever met another contra bass clarinet player. it sucks cuz i cant get any advice on it, though it does make me feel special. i also play tenor sax and the little clarinet and bari sax. i named my contra alexandra and my little clarinet is named susanna and my bari is named cherry. the tenor i played didnt have a name because i didnt like it.

my audition went pretty good, i did mess up a bit on my d major...i'm quite mad about that, i should have asked to do my chromatic again (we record it) and on my cadenza my high C sharp sorta sounded bad...GAh so stupid....
the clarinet concerto confuses me (mozarts of course) the adagio, in the cadenza part, twice i've heard two recordings with a cadenza very different from mine, much shorter--i looked at both my books that contain it and its not the same, i'm quite confused now sad
aura_of_clarity- :/ i don't think so...my mind is quite blank, what songs are you looking for? classical? contemporary? move songs?

Rawr.
Hi, my name's something or other... (Yes I actually did forget for a minute there) and I'm an obsessive compulsive clarinetist.
My clarinet does neat things, like play disney music when it really shouldn't. And though, I'm the one making the noise... I blame my clarinet....
My clarinet is my best friend. It helps stuff and such. uh.... yeah. I play it when I'm mad and it calms me down. I play it when I'm happy and... well it makes me happier.
I've been playing clarinet for seven years now and my school recently disregarded band as though it was of no use to it's students. Since band was dropped, my grades have been dropping as well. I have written to the school board about this and they haven't written me back nor have they done anything. I feel that some action needs to be taken towards this. They say that band is just too expensive to keep going when it was mostly our money that was going towards anything... Not to mention that it brought out the best in most of us...
If you have any advice or comments, please message me.
Thank you.

=O You're so cool! lol I don't feel dumb anymore! redface I thought i was alone on the obsessiveness. lol I Love being a nerd! sweatdrop heart 3nodding LOL I'm so excited now. But yesh I have the same question as someone above. Any advice on a song book that wouldn't be too hard or too easy? Right now i just stick to playing piano music. But it'd be cool to play stuff written for the Clarinet. xd

I hear that they're supposed to be the second hardest woodwind instrument (with a treble clef) to play. Is that true? I mean, I was like the best clarinet player last year. I was just acing all the music handed to me.

lunar x2 I hear that they're supposed to be the second hardest woodwind instrument (with a treble clef) to play. Is that true? I mean, I was like the best clarinet player last year. whats the hardest? i personally dont think any instrament is harder than any other. they all require different skills, and some people dont have the right ones for a certain instrament.

I'm starting to think that playing the regular clarinet is better than bass clarinet...more interesting stuff to play, less air is needed, and I think that playing bass is starting to affect my nasal system...at least I don't always play bass!!

Genetic Mistake-SHAME ON YOUR SCHOOL! go find where the office er place is for the school board is and take action, tell them how important band is! Band is something that can give those who are shy to step forward, those who want a great future to have one, and yet some schools just throw it away...do all you can, go on a petition with a group of others -miyoko

I am a clarinet player in our school's 7th grade band. My mind thinks the notes but my fingers don't think as fast. I can't play very long before my cheeks get tired and they open, letting the air out. I am not the best in my section is what i'm saying.

Hi, I too am a clarinet player, which is good. Otherwise I would have no business being in this form!
I've been playing for nine years. I started in 6th grade on the clarinet, switched to bass for a year in 7th, switched back to clarinet in 8th, played clarinet until 10th when I switched to contra bass clarinet, began marching bass clarinet my 11th year, and picked up sax- mostly bari- my 12th year. I now, in college, march clarinet for marching band, march clarient and bass clarinet and contra bass clarinet for our Blast! group, and play contra for our concert band. Woohoo!

we play relatively easy music for orchestra (only 2 pieces) but there are really freakin hard parts in them. we play christmas classics and it has a nutcracker song in it (dont know what its called) and it has a whole bunch of dotted 8ths and 16ths and goes quickly and has like 3 or 4 sharps. the other one is called the christmas waltz and mr. martin says its well known and it has 3 or 4 sharps, but sounds really pretty. but as again, theres this really hard part with a whole bunch of hard sharps and 8th notes in a row and it goes really fast. ah, well. thats the price for picking first clarinet...
