"Carp," Maia, mumbled. "I don't think I've eaten carp before." she glanced at Toby. "Show me. I don't mind seeing fake crap. I've never seen that before either. Might be entertaining." She gave another yawn.

"Ah, yes. The internet is definitely entertaining." Toby shook his head. It was a blessing and a curse to have such a connection to the rest of the world. YouTube definitely made their lives harder but they had found Maia. That was important.
"You probably haven't," Dari said, "It's sort of a fish-stick meat. Besides, the flesh-eating ones are very small." He gestured just how small with his fingers.

Carps were small, and eaten by humans. Fish sticks had never appealed to her: they were thin pieces of fish covered in breaded things. Maia stood, a bit unsteadily. She stretched. "And useful, I suppose. You found me." She hugged each of them. "I think I'll be able to sleep now," she said. "See you for breakfast?"

"Well, Dari, you've bored her to sleep. Good job." It was spoken sarcastically but they both knew it was true.
Toby smiled and offered a wave. "'Night. See you then."
Dari smiled and nodded. "Goodnight."
Toby would wait a little while longer before going to bed himself, just to avoid following Maia upstairs.

Maia walked up the stairs and into bed. When she next woke, it was around six o clock. She couldn't tell time yet, but did grumble about the early morning. The sky wasn't at full brightness yet. She put her blanket over her head and slept for another hour, laying in bed for a for a further thirty minutes before deciding to dress and emerge from her room. She wandered into the bathroom, brushed Her teeth and made her way downstairs.
"Good morning!" She called. "You guys awake?"

Dari was smartly avoiding Toby while the man shuffled around in the kitchen. Toby had since forgotten his guest and was wandering around shirtless, sipping coffee and considering breakfast. He had only just started cooking when he remembered Maia. Right. What did selkies eat for breakfast? He heard her come down the stairs. Too chipper. Far too chipper.
"Good morning," Dari said from his perch on the couch, watching the news.
"Mm," was all Toby offered from the kitchen. "What do you want for breakfast?"
Tobias Aikley was assuredly not a morning person.

"Good morning Dari," Maia rewarded the alien with a bright smile. It didn't seem Toby was feeling friendly yet. She knew she hadn't, when she'd first woken up. She went into the kitchen, observing that the man was shirtless.
"What do you feel like making?" she asked, curiously. "I'm sure I'll like whatever You decide to make."

Why was it always so hard for guests to make up their minds? Maybe they thought it was polite.
"I have eggs. And toast." He didn't feel like making pancakes. "I haaave... sausage." He went into the fridge and then, for some reason, looked out the window. "Oranges. I may be able to get you a grapefruit." So please just choose.

"Oooh. An omelett? That's what eggs and sausage are, isn't it? Lets have that." That sounded good, even if it wasn't sweet like waffles. And maybe she'd be able to take a sausage to Seamus. "Oranges are good. Grapefruit are sour. Lori told me." Wait, did he have oranges outside? She went to the window to look.

"...well it can be." Toby sighed and wiped his hand down his face. Omelets. Alright. He began about preparing the eggs, not bothering to ask if she liked just whites or any similarly irritating preference. "Cheese?"
Maia was at the window then. For the first time she would be able to see the back yard. It was fairly sizeable and green with a large stone-paved patio, some outside furniture and a decently-sized grill. Three trees lived outside, two smaller than the third. The two similar ones held an occasional orange ball.

"If you like," she agreed, but her attention was on Toby's yard. "You have orange trees!" she turned to give him a bright smile. "Its beautiful." He seemed as dependant on caffeine as any adult she'd met, at least in the morning. Huh. "There aren't trees like this in Oregon."

"I do have orange trees!" Toby's voice was sincere, but his face was entirely blank. "Arizona is a horrible desolate wasteland full of citrus. I have some in the fridge if you want one. I haven't gone out in a couple of days. Plus they're warm out there." He liked tending to the living things on his property, and he felt sort of symbiotic with the fruit it gave.
Hey, it was the little things, right?
"They're some ********' fine oranges too." Toby didn't usually cuss, but it was before 8am.

"I'd love one." Fresh fruit was always loved, and Toby had trees full of it! "Growing something makes it not a wasteland," Maia pointed out. It was hot and uncomfortable, but look oranges!
"Can I help with breakfast?"

"Citrus trees are hardy. I'm lucky I have grass," Toby continued, then gestured to the fridge. "Oranges in the bottom drawer on the right side."
He turned to Maia briefly then. Help? How? "If you want to."

Maia went to the fridge, pulled it open and opened the bottom drawer as instructed. She took an orange, closed the drawer ans said, "I never saw much use for these before, you know. Storing food, I didn't need to do that. I just caught fish and ate, or bought something. But I could buy a whole bunch Of food and store it in one until I felt like eating it."
"Do you want me to get the eggs and cheese out?"
