She'd startled him, and all of his muscles clenched for a second before he let out a soft nervous chuckle. But this wasn't the time for laughter, so his expression turned serious in a heartbeat. As he listened, a new factor entered into the equation that he hadn't even considered. Alice was the one throwing her off her balance, not some off-hand comment from another Hunter. He'd never have realized it if she hadn't explained, but once she did there were instant flashes of a day he'd have just as easily forgotten if he could. Flashes of fire, and screaming. He felt so stupid for missing this. "I get it." He muttered, even though it was too late. "I thought this whole time, we were just working together to do something good. She was never ours, and she was never meant to be - there's gonna be lots of kids we deal with together, in our job. I've dealt with a ton already and I know there's gonna be a ton more. But the thing that made this so special was that we were working as a team, to get her home. She wasn't supposed to be ours - she was supposed to be our success." He picked Mimsy up in his arms, until her feet were inches off of the ground and her weight rested fully against him. "It's you and me. Forever. But I want us to be able to do good for others together. We just saved that little girl's life, Mimsy. I wanna do more stuff like that. I want being a Hunter to mean something. But I don't wanna do that without you."

"Haven't you heard? We should think positive. Like how easy it is to hit this ******** thing." He demonstrated gladly with a few savage swipes. No point in getting disturbed now about its makeup, especially given how hard it was to keep the stupid creature down.

Perhaps it was that mounting frustration that made Jack go a little overboard. Once he found purchase on the ground, he buried his sword into its bony carapace and both pushed down and twisted until he heard bones crack.

"We were. We were, but." Mimsy's nose scrunched up as she tried to think, tilting her glasses askew, her mind distracted by the itching sensation that just continued to spread. "We were successful, as well, and I am proud of our team. I just want--but this is a success. Not the success. But it was close. Nearly close enough, but not. And I want to be successful with our own Alice." The weight of her body in his arms might as well have been dead weight, for how little she supported herself. It was a bit like carrying a very tall, very bony doll who also managed to be magnetically attracted to him. "I am not suited for field work. I am one who is only to be used in case of an emergency." This particular statement didn't seem to be anything that bothered her, and she seemed comfortable with this truth. "Deus means nothing to me. Being a Hunter means nothing to me. Neither ever has, and I don't want to give them meaning. If you do, then I'll be with you. You are my husband. I will always follow you. Everywhere." It almost sounded warmly sentimental in this context, but there was still a substantial amount of creepy in what she meant by that. Her almost hungry stare as she looked at him made that fairly evident. "I'll be with you," she murmured, leaning her forehead on his, "because our team holds all of the meaning. If we are good together, it is because we are good. You may attribute your own meanings, if--if you don't agree with mine. I would just like for our team to mean the most."

It ticked inside of him with the regularity of a metronome, just as it always did. Some days it was easier to ignore, to work past, to divert from the murky path laid out before him-- and some days it wasn't. Today was one of those days. It had been a struggle to put his fingers to the keys, to ask America how to do better than what he was equipped to do. He was less a man and more something that took the shape of one, a grand masquerade that had everyone fooled but one. (--but two, -- lingering in the--)The darkness in him was a bomb counting down backwards to one. He felt dread creeping in along the edges of his mind like a creeping and sprawling vine, doing its best to take hold. He felt it but didn't recognise it, despite the fact that this had been him once (twice, thrice, more--) before, the bird falling prey to the crocodile's jaws. Every step he took was one closer to oblivion, to destruction, to an inevitable future. It shredded at him like razorwire, barbed and unpleasant. There was no fit for him here. There was no hope for him, here. There was only the darkness, eternal and unyielding. There was only something vast and unpleasant waiting just beneath everyone's feet, if only they weren't so foolish in ignoring it. There was only the inevitable death of civilians, in a enclosed space of highly contagious creatures. Himself included, if it was like last time indeed. The thought worried at him like a dog did to the bone-- it would be no good, if he were to come in contact with a civilian. History repeated itself. lizbot To: A. "You're the only person I'm going to use in case of emergency." He interjected quickly. But her words hit their intended target, and he fell into that helpless lull of bliss that only she managed to obtain from him. She reassured him that he wasn't wrong, and he wasn't going to lose his tether. She would be part of his team forever. "Good." He muttered. "But I do care about being a hunter. At least a little. I care that we're doing the right thing. I care about whether this company is actually helping humans or not, because that's the only reason it should exist. So yeah. I care. But I'll never care about anything if I don't have you by my side." Even if she didn't care the way he did, he needed her there, tethering him down to earth. In turn, he'd make sure she flew as high as he could manage, until she reached the stars. "Mimsy Morris, would you do me the greatest honor of joining me outside of this shithole and fighting some more zombies?" He had sincerely considered getting down on one knee to ask her this, but it would require letting her go, and he wasn't quite ready to do that, yet.

Mimsy administered the antidote to the little girl, and Jordan watched as Rep carefully avoided touching the child, letting Harrison lead her away. That, too, supported his suspicions. He wanted to be wrong. Didn't he? Would it be so bad if everyone was infected? He shook his head sharply, startled and rather disturbed by the thought. Everyone was infected, something whispered in the back of his head, and Rep shouting about Sasha being infected only strengthened the idea. Everyone was infected. Soon they would be attacking. Rep was covered in blood, and he said he was immune, but he was touching everybody. Nobody could be trusted. Soon they would all be gone, out of themselves. Everybody would be gone soon. Everyone left, one way or another, voluntarily or otherwise. Jordan registered that Ro had asked him a question. A question about going back out as a team. They just wanted to get him out there where they could surround him and pick him off more easily. "No," he said, sharp and low, and stood abruptly. "Thanks for the help. I'll be fine on my own. Don't follow me." His palm and fingers tingled, strange and itchy and numb; he rubbed his hand against his coat absently, not looking at it, not seeing the veins of blackness slowly spidering their way across the back of his hand. He stalked off, digging his flashlight back out of his bag. He'd do this on his own and prove that he wasn't useless, wasn't a deadweight, wasn't unnecessary.

There was a time when knowing that he cared about being a Hunter would have been unacceptable, but Mimsy understood the importance of this by now, and wouldn't admonish him for wanting to ensure these things. Making sure he felt that his work was worthwhile and good was a meaningful cause, and she still intended to join him to aid him in accomplishing this when he needed her assistance. She knew that he was entirely capable on his own, but she held out hope that he would need her for everything regardless. He seemed to understand that she needed that, or truly needed her in a way she hadn't realized yet - hearing him say that he wouldn't care about something if she was not present made her lips quirk into a smile of clear delight. There had never been any question that she required him to enable her ability to feel and care. But Robert, who seemed to care about everything indiscriminately, required her for that in turn? That knowledge earned a beaming grin that was probably more suited for a proposal. "No, I won't." Which was an odd thing to say with as large a smile as she had. "But I will be by your side as you do, ensuring that we will both remain safely together. I will! I do!"

Only she could manage to get him to smile that sincerely over a no. "You little.." He bent in and bit her neck, before carrying her out of the ice rink and heading back into the darkness. "Get that runic torch back out, scamp." He told her, bouncing her once before finally letting her get on her own feet. Jezebel took her place, glowing fiercely into the darkness as she was summoned. "We're going hunting."

Once again the large beast found itself deterred, letting out another despairing wail as it was turned away from what continued to be its sole focus in life, it's reason for being. But it did not leave without some statement of its agitation, lashing out at the one who brought it down before it leapt free and once more loping off into the darkness.
A bladed limb shot out and lashed Jack of his trouble as it twisted and bolted.
Barry hits Jack for 6 DMG - Jack is infected
Elsewhere, the itch runs deeper, the paranoia grows and the infection progresses like an old friend you would rather didn't visit so much.
Everyone with butterfly-like marks from the previous event is now infected.

Rep returned after Harrison. He was ******** exhausted, not in the physical sense but in the mental and emotionally drained way that only a few days rest and solitude could ever hope to mend. But he couldn't stop, couldn't ******** let up.
He looked over the cots as he walked and he wasn't even sure what he was looking for. Jordan was gone. His instincts wanted to assume the worst, that Jordan wouldn't make a stupid decision like that, that he'd opt to stay with him and Harrison and something had to be wrong. But who was he ******** kidding? Jordan didn't owe them anything any longer.
He made his way into the cctv room and shut the door behind him.
