Rae took the plate with a smile and started to pile on a little of everything that was not still moving xp
Rae was hungry, or at least she figured that the empty feeling in her gut was from hunger, and not a deep desire to curl up in a little ball and cry over everything that was happening sweatdrop
"What do you do Mr. Maximos?" It was a silly question, since she could have dug around in her head to find out everything that she used to know about him... but Rae just felt the need to talk right now.

Donner lifted his head, squinting to adjust his eyes as he looked at the old man, the sun shining brightly behind him as he peered down to the giant. "I'm fine, Walt...i was starting to get claustrophobic down there...I'm not very comfortable in dark, enclosed spaces."
He pushed himself to a sitting position with a grunt, dusting the grass off his back before resting his arms on his knees, letting out a breath. He looked over to Maximos and Rae. Now there were two of his friends that he'd have to get to know, all over again. "To be quite honest...it started to creep me out, that room. The entire mansion. It was like visiting another world entirely."
Turning his head to Grace, seeing that she was still flustered from what happened inside, he reached out to pat her on the shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze, before looking up to Walter. "Walt...how do you do it? How can you serve him without question?"
It was an honest question, albeit a little out of the blue.

For a living, or in general?
Maximos responded with a grin. It was funny that while Hono did know alot about the Shadow he'd never really discussed that with her. Or anyone. It was a general mystery what Maximos did with his gobs of free time, as he certainly didnt have a job. Perhaps a mystery Rae would be about to crack.
-----
You are correct.
Walter said, adjusting his monocle. He hated being called "Walt", he hated it greatly, but he was a grandmaster at the serving arts. Even if Tomorrow could read his soul, or his mind, he would never know.
The innards of Shadow Island are based after my home world, Mr. Tomorrow. So in essence it is like another world.
Many people arent used to unsettling nature of the place, more still when they understand the magics involved. Walter had come to expect this, and knew that while he himself had no remedy for the feeling he could fully appreciate the need to do exactly what Tomorrow was doing.
True the question was out of the blue, but another visitor, a Master Joshua had asked something very similar, as had Master Vahn. Walter was getting quite skilled at telling his story.
A very long time ago...I waged a battle with Master Maximos' great great grandfather. In my hubris I waged freedom as a prize to the victor. Through great cunning I was defeated.
He looked up from Tomorrow to Maximos with a smile.
I was sworn to the builder of that manor and his family. Each passing generation has offered to free me from my commitment, but I was taught when a man gives his word it is final.
He looked back down, adjusting the towel that rested over his arm.
This place is my home, these people my family and my duty.

"...So you're like him?" Donner asked, the surprise evident on his face as he looked over to Maximos.
Donner had pondered over Maximos' existance, when he had first met him and all throughout his life. Although they had never truely spoken to each other about their origins, Donner had gleaned that Maximos was not a Gaian creature of any sort. At least, not when he first came.
He was truely unique. Universally unique. Donner didn't know a single person that had or could do the things Maximos could do.
He looked back to the windmill, thinking back to the mansion below, within the darkness. Many a question spiralled in his head - where had it come from, if Maximos was not of Gaian descent? Had he simply created it out of thin air?
"...And the work that Maximos does?" He asked Walter, looking back to the old man. "Do you accept it for what it is?"

Rae bit into something crunchy with a gooey center and decided that it was much better not to know what it was....
"Mmm, for a living?" Rae had an idea what he did in general, from the same memory that had stopped her from speaking John's other name.

Walter's answer simply flowed out, it was simple, short, and yet it said everything to resolve the question presented him without even the slightest bit of rudeness.
I accept the Master for who he is. Isnt that enough?
He said, with a gentle smile.
---
That was kind of a trick question. Of course if he wanted to know what he did in his spare time he could regail her with hours of talk of enchantments and books and stories. But for a job?
Maximos smirked a bit, rubbing the back of his head while managing the plate with his opposite hand.
I dont really have a profession, so to speak. On my home, I used to spend my mornings collecting small shiny rocks from the shore.
He lifted his hand gesturing the shape and general size of the stones.
When I got here to Gaia, I discovered they were apparently precious stones of great value. I havent needed since.
Maximos had a storehouse in the basement of the manor the size of a small warehouse filled with thousands on thousands of diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and the like. Though to him, they were just a "shiny collection".
---
She was growing so much, so fast. He wondered if maybe he wouldnt soon be getting a refresher in the course she had just learned. He couldnt shut his eyes to the fact that this soul was somebody before he found it and brought it here. She would go back to that person eventually, or so he thought.
Though in the meantime he was beginning to realize he would have to get quite used to being led around by his hand. He jogged behind her being lead back to the table intently hoping their were no more living dishes, except of course for the bubble soup which...eternally bubbled.

Donner smiled sadly to Walter, sighing before he spoke. "...I guess it has to be. He is what he is."
An angel of death. An angel of death, who had marked him for death.
They were going to have to speak about it sooner or later. Donner needed to know why...why Maximos didn't finish him in the woods.
It was in his power. He'd made that perfectly clear on the rooftop. But then, all the questions Donner would ask would only come back to the one Walter had just given him.
He is what he is.
Donner's sadness was quickly washed away as he managed to push himself to his feet, dusting the grass off his backside as he smiled down to Walter. "I like you, Walt. You know what you know, and thats good enough for you. Not a lot of people out there with that kinda mind-set these days."
He looked down to Grace, kneeling before her to place his hands on her shoulders, putting his forehead to hers as he looked into her eyes. "You okay to come get some food, or do you want me to bring you something?"

When they were back inside, Teira took her seat, letting Maximos pull it out for her as she had learned he liked to do. She didn't mind, in fact it was kind of nice! Her tummy grumbled and she quickly turned her attention the food laid out. There was considerably more than there was when they had left to release the Vider. It was practically a feast, and Teira eagerly gorged on all the strange delicacies. The spider soup was quite delicious sans vider, and she ate a plateful of the mozerella sticks. Krak, although intimidating, was rather tasty and she liked the way it crunched. Noct soup however.... she wouldn't try that again. Whatever it was, the black liquid left a bad taste in her mouth and she ended up devouring 3 mini burgers and a bowl of chillie, (with more mozzarella sticks) to get rid of the aftertaste.
Out of everything served, she preferred fruits, vegetables and cheeses or dishes with them, and she loved red meats. While she enjoyed other dishes, these were the things she ate most of, taking multiple helpings.
Playing with D had worked up quite an appetite, 2 and some odd hours later, she licked her lips and grinned happily, her hunger satiated for the time being.
"Myaaaaa."
She practically puured like a fat old lazy cat who'd just been fed.

Maximos popped from his seat looking sort of lost for a moment, his eyes half open. Something about the zombies earlier during the day had spoiled the lions share of his appetite. Instead of the usual 6 plates and 4 deserts, he ate 4 plates and 2 deserts. His meals were literally chosen at random.
It seemed given the right motivation, namely hunger, Maximos could and would eat just about anything. Animal, vegetable, mystery substance, it didnt matter as long as he was eating.
Though for Maximos the meal as a whole only took an hour, and as a true gentleman he would wait for Teira to finish. He would never have intentionally fallen asleep if it hadnt been for the large amount of activity earlier today. And so as Teira relaxed, Maximos smiled brightly, pushing his chair back and slowly standing.
I'm feeling in the mood for a nice nap, what do you say? Shall I take you back to your room for a bit? I can wake you later if you like.

"Nap?--- rest... lay down... sleep---
Yes please!"
She had paused for a moment to make sense of the word, sifting through terms that floated into her mind upon hearing it.
To be honest, she was quite worn out. Re-accessing her wings... and tapping into forgotton vocabulary was putting a strain on her body, draining her energy reserves.
She yawned sleepily and smiled at him, getting out of her chair she wavered and blinked.
"No wakey... Teira sleepy."

She smiled and put her hand on top of his. " Help me up?" Grace needed to find someplace quiet and find out how the hell Verandi had broken down her shields and taken over her without a spell of possession or anything! But that was for later, for now she needed to see if the sick feeling in her stomach was actually hunger. xp

Okay! C'mon Teira.
He said with a smile making his way to her side of the table and reaching out his hand. If she were smaller he might have carried her, but instead, like when he first led a scared D to his room he would lead her gently by the hand.
Teira's room was adorned with all the trappings of a little girls room. Plushies, teddy bears, stuffed animals of almost every sort, a large bed, and enough frills to make any girl feel she was a princess.
All the possessions anyone would ever need to be happy. Maximos slowly crept open the door and brought Teira's hand through it.
Goodnight Teira, if you need anything I'll be right down the hall.
And he was. Even though his door was closed, it was never "closed" to anyone he cared about.
---
Shiny indeed.
He said with a bright smile seeing Hono all over Rae's face. It was heart warming really.
Maybe one of these days I can show you?
---
No sooner than Grace seemed to think it, did Walter respond. Was it a lucky guess? Maybe. A skill? Possibly. A mystery? Definitely.
If the Madam would like a serving of Arcalu tea does wonders for inner magical disturbances, pains, and symptoms felt by most mediums.

This room was NEW!~ Maximos lead her to a different door than the one to the guest room where she'd slept previously.
And this room with all it's wonderful new-ness made her forget for a moment that she was so very sleepy. She hugged Maximos goodnight and as the door closed softly behind him she looked around in wide eyed wonder.
Everything was so... so PRETTY! Normal elves would have found the over abundance of lace and the clutter of so many toys to be gaudy, Teira was enchanted. Even if she COULD remember, she'd never seen such a wonderful room! She wandered around the room looking at this and that, trailing curious fingers over surfaces. She stopped as she came to a wicker chair with a GIANT stuffed cat, a big floppy bow tied around it's neck. She scooped the cat up in her arms and buried her face in it's soft faux fur laughing.
Then something caught her eye, On a shelf was a globe of glass set upon a jeweled pedestal. Inside the orb was a carving of a unicorn in a meadow, it's head held high and it's tail flagged. Picking it up, she squeaked in surprise, drawing her hand back as a lone note sounded in the silence. Reaching again, she picked it up delicately and looked at it closer. The pedestal turned! Turning, she wound the base of the globe up and set it down on the table beside the bed. The sweetest melody rang out through soft glittering notes as the orb turned about. The lullaby was beautiful and yet sad all at once. Crawling into bed, cuddling her giant cat plush, she fell asleep to the Unicorn's song.

" I bet we would both find that...pleasant!" 4laugh awe hell, Rae would likely have trouble remembering not to drool all over herself ! It was not the wealth that was appealing, Hono and Rae alike could be very happily distracted by a ball of tin foil in the right light xp , it was a purely Raven emotion, the natural birds were just as easily distracted by bits of twine and anything sparkly or shiny...
