Kiro watched William as he took off. Turning his head to Mathias he spoke again. "It doesn't make me unbeatable at all. Targets I can't make eye contact with are immune. Also, if the opponent is fast enough he can kill me before I can even use it on him." Kiro stated. "There are many flaws in my form. Fiends are actually the most difficult opponent for me since they can come in any forms."
Kiro stretched his arms and then stood up. "Well, I'm done. How about we work on that sword of yours."

Mathias' eyes brightened and he quickly shoveled the rest of his food into his mouth. He pushed his plate away a bit before standing up from the table and announcing,"I'm ready!" At least, thats what he meant to say, but the food still in his mouth made it sound more like ,"Mmmmmpthrmmmphy."
He quickly chewed and swallowed and grinned, picking up his plate and sword,"Yeah! Let's go. I'll try to hold my own."

Kiro quickly made with way to the sparring arena with Mathias following beside him. Kiro jumped down from the stands and onto the stand below in the middle of the arena.
Kiro stood with his hands on his hips. "So Mathias, how long have you been training with a sword?"

Mathias followed Kiro into the practice arena. Before he entered the ring with his friend, he took the time to set his weapon aside and choose a wooden practice sword from the waiting racks nearby. After a few test swings to loosen up and get a feel for the weight, he chose a matching wooden practice shield. Hefting the two, he marched out to Kiro and smiled,"Since I was a kid. I loved watching the guards and the soldiers going through drills and such, and would copy them. My father found out and had the Captain begin drilling me along with the men ever since."
He stretched and worked his shoulders and neck, loosening up a bit more in preparation for the upcoming spar.

Kiro made a pitiful face. "So I take it you're a real amateur." Kiro said with a shrug, though we was only kidding a little.
Kiro unsheathed both his katana and unequipped his sheathed and threw them all to the side except one of the sheaths. "I'll just take you on with this. Come at me however you want. You have some learning to do!" Kiro said, encouraging Mathias.

Mathias gave Kiro a dirty look at the amatuer jab, but spoiled it by breaking into a boyish grin. He nodded at Kiro's words and readied his weapons. He entered a sideways stance, shield held out before him with his sword held horizontal, point directed towards Kiro. It was a more defensive stance, but it was one he favored. He advanced cautiously towards Kiro, eyes narrrowed as if expecting some trick. He gave Kiro a few quick thrusts of his blade to test his opponent.

Kiro was very ready for these quick jabs and had sidestepped to the right to dodge the first one and then made minor shifts backwards out of reach of Mathias' blade to dodge the rest.
"Sometimes its best to simply dodge an attack then parry it." Kiro suggested. "Some sword styles require you to parry an attack in order to set up their main strike. You don't want the position of your weapon to be idle while being struck from another angle." Kiro instructed.
Kiro stepped in closer to Mathias, but in a very low stance with his sheath hovering just barely above the ground in front of his as he clutched it with both hands. "The shield you're using is a very useful tool, but for both you and your opponent. Beyond the shield is a blind spot, though it be a good defensive and attacking item." Kiro said faintly as he then swung his sheath up high at Mathias' upper body intentionally to provoke him to raise his shield.

Mathias nodded to Kiro's words, but secretly wondered why Kiro thought he needed such basic instruction. This was hardly the first time he had picked up such weapons. He approved of how Kiro easily sidestepped and avoided his lazy thrusts, just as his first instructors had told him to do. He watched carefully as Kiro went in low, and was unsurprised when he attacked high instead. He raised his shield to deflect the blow as was expected, but as his shield raised Mathias swung his blade in a horizontal slash beneath it. His instructors had been quite clear that the shield could not protect him everywhere, and that his sword would have to make up the lack when needed,"C'mon Kiro. Enough with the kid stuff. Give me your all!"

As Mathias' sword came slashing, Kiro used the blind spit of his raised shield and positioned his right foot in close to Mathias' which is a stance Koho in martial arts. Then as the blade of his enemy came Kiro pivoted his foot and brought his other leg around to Mathias' side to side step quickly around him to his open side which is the second stepping stance called Hiho.
Kiro at this point had a huge opening in Mathias' guard, leaning in quite close. "You don't want that." Kiro spoke softly, then slashed his sheath outward from the backside of his opponent's shield in order to cause him to lose grip of it.

Mathias was taken by surprise at Kiro's tactics. He tightened his grip on the practice shield when Kiro hit it, but only barely managed to keep a hold of it. He used the momentum of Kiro's blow and let the shield pull him a bit away from Kiro, but lost his balance and fell, again barely correcting his motion and turning it into a roll to come to his feet. It was anything but pretty, but it worked. Mathias resettled the shield on his arm and narrowed his eyes, but grinned at Kiro,"Heh, nice move," he said.
Mathias was obviously going to have to try and be just as tricky, but he had a feeling that Kiro outmatched him....by far. Oh well. He wasn't about to just give up. Kiro would probably beat him, but he could learn from it. Still grinning, Mathias saluted Kiro's manuever, then tapped his shield with his blade to indicate again that he was ready," Lets try that again!"

Kiro stood up straight after Mathias maneuvered out of his attack. "Haha! That was nice actually." Kiro commended Mathias. "Most people don't know how to react when their opponent gets in close and uncomfortable with them." Kiro added.
Kiro suddenly sprinted at Mathias again straight on, sliding his left foot forward in towards his opponent in attempt to perhaps mimic the same movement he had accomplished before. Kiro's sheath was held with both hands out in front of him, prepared to sting some skin.

Mathias beamed under Kiro's praise, but then blinked when Kiro suddenly shot towards him. Mathias had expected Kiro to be more of a reactionary fighter and hadn't thought he would charge in. That suited Mathias just fine. He hunkered down, bending his knees slightly as he brought up his shield to defend again. When Kiro moved into range, Mathias abruptly surged straight and stepped forward as he swept his shield forward and in a backhanded swipe, planning on having his opponent slam right into it with the force of his own momentum.

The sudden shield thrust was the perfect counter to Kiro's sidestep. Kiro winced as he saw Mathias' knees bend, this gave him a new opening and a potential escape route fromt he on coming attack that Kiro had not predicted. Instead of sliding around the side of Mathias, Kiro gave out his weight and continued sliding toward Mathias down low and underneath his bent legs which gave him the gap he needed.
Managing to slide underneath Mathias, Kiro quickly turned around and jumped to his feet with some athletic skill. He was two feet from Mathias and directly behind him, though his sheath didn't appear to be about to strike. Kiro had something else in mind for his new partner.

Mathias grimaced when his shield failed to connect, then blinked with his mouth open when Kiro managed to slide underneath him. How the heck did he manage that? Mathias thought as he abruptly spun, slicing the air around him quickly with his practice sword to ward off any potential attack to his back. He paused when he noticed Kiro put of range and grimly set his shield again. He grinned and advanced on his team mate,"Nice footwork Kiro, but if you wanted to escort me to a dance, all you needed to do was ask..."

When Mathias turned around to face Kiro, he was met with glaring red eyes with four black slits in them around his pupils. "I said I didn't need to use this, but I think if we're going to be partnering up it would be a good idea to experience my ability." Kiro spoke honestly yet also coldly at the same time.
