"I'm coming," Ryu came back out to see the two girls grinning at each other.
He wondered if he should worry, but decided it wasn't worth worrying until it looked like there really should be something to worry about.
"Yes!" Feng leaped forward to grab her brother's arm, "Let's go!" giggling she added to Aliya, "Lead the way."

"Hmm.... give me a minute."
Lin had to think about that one, something that she was afraid of. She certainly wasn't afraid of people like Miyu was, and she didn't mind spiders or rodents provided she had her stick of doom and they tended to leave her alone.
Well she wasn't sure about rats.
The it dawned on her and she looked up, "Of those very, very, very, very big cats, because I'm like a small snack to them."

Aliya laughed and started back down the stairs. "This way!" she urged them, skipping down the steps three at a time.
Elberon nodded. "Yes," he murmured seriously. "That is a wise fear to have. You would indeed be nothing more than a snack for them. Even the strongest fear them ... even the griffins try to avoid them."
He looked at her strangely. "But is that the only thing that you fear? Even Elros fears more than just the moor cats ... and he seems the sort of fellow that would have no fears at all!"

Feng followed with glee, wondering where it was they were going and wondering if she could revert back afterwards. They had been once more in this form a lot longer than expected. Even though it was good for them to do this for longer periods of time, Feng liked to be herself.
Ryu hurried to match Feng's speed, which wasn't hard, they always seemed to be able to match each other without trying. Which was good since she still had his arm and he would really hate to trip.

"Hmm... that's a good question... well spiders are kind of big and they have pinchers, but they leave you alone as long as you move... I've never seen a rat but people say they're big but that's what a stick is for if they try coming after me... and.... the dark isn't so bad.... and...."
She tried thinking about it, what else could she be afraid of... people? No.... are there other animals? Well she hadn't seen them yet.
"I don't know."

Aliya led them back outside.
"We have to meet him on the other side of the pasture," she explained to the twins as she led them towards the western side of the ranch. "For some reason he likes framing his subjects against the sunset ... which ..."
She looked up at the sky.
"... is happening now. We should hurry so that we don't miss it and disappoint him."
Elberon was impressed. "Well, you are a very brave little girl," he told her solemnly, "and I respect that."
Of course, he assumed that she would have more fears as she learned about more and more things ... it was only natural.

Feng hurried along a little dragging Ryu along with her. The other side of the pasture, Feng didn't even know how long that pasture was, but it couldn't be that long.

"Am I?" Lin murmured, "I think I'm lucky."
Because she knew there were suppose to be scary things out in the world, but she hadn't met them yet. So without meeting them she couldn't be scared.

Aliya hurried along the back of the ranch house and past the weapons shed, then past the stables and towards the pasture. The pasture itself was ... well, long ... its total area was something like one hundred acres, which meant it was about a half-mile in length.
Elberon nodded. "Yes, you are indeed lucky," he agreed. "To have all of this land to explore on, to have a father like yours, to have two different worlds in which to live ... yes."

It was clear they would going to have to hurry a bit more and Feng let go breaking into a sprint. She knew Ryu would follow, he always did. It was rare even now that the two would be separated, lessons weren't long enough for them to feel that kind of seperation.
Ryu did follow, matching her stride for stride as he watched his sister's hair fly.

Lin giggled and nodded, "And to have my Mommy and my siblings, and... I don't have cousins, but I have nieces and nephews. They're fun to play with because they're around my age."
So she never lacked people to play with even though it seemed she prefer people who were bigger than her.

Aliya kept pace with the twins, though she had more than enough energy to skip past them.
Elberon noted the time and slowly began back towards the ranch house to return Lin to her father before dark.
"Nephews and nieces your own age?" he asked curiously. "How many? What sorts of things do you do?"

She was seeing someone in the distance, so it was probably Halmir, at least that's what she thought.

Lin had to count, in which she muttered to herself for a moment or two.
"Seven? I have some that are older than me... but I think there are about seven that are close to my size."

Aliya put one slim hand to her forehead to block the sun and broke into a smile. "Yes, that's him!" she agreed cheerfully. "Come on, he'll be anxious to start!"
Or just to see them, she was never certain which it was.
Elberon nodded. "And what do you do with all of them?" he asked curiously. "Do you play games? Build things? Explore? Have adventures?"
