No, before the play starts.
Which play to pick, use an option, run, or pass.
Whether to run on 4th down or punt.
Sack the QB or block the run,
that kinda stuff.

They spell it out for you one TV, but the real thing is harder to understand.
One of the amazing ideas this year was to stall the game via defense by having someone go offsides. They stalled the play so the rest of the guys could get on the field.
And Peyton Manning got sacked AND he got a delay of game! That never happens!
