"That wasn't your fault," Maia pointed out gently. "You can't control it on that day, and we explained that to Kevin." She would've given Michael's shoulder a squeeze, had he been physical. "You guys moved past that," she said. "That's what friends do."

Michael shook his head and went silent. It took a little while longer of walking for him to re-emerge.
"What are the white ones called?" he asked, pointing to a low-growing flowering bush with white blooms.

Maia was silent while waiting for Michael to show himself again. She knew better than to press the subject.
She bent down to inspect the flowers indicated. "I don't know," she admitted. "But they're beautiful."

Again he reached out and touched the flowers. Their multiple layers of petals almost tickled his palm. Finally he smiled again.
"I suppose names are only an act of identification anyway."

"Mmm, I think so. I bet they have a pretty one, though. When I first came, I didn't know names for any flowers." But she'd enjoyed them just as much. Daffodils hadn't gained any more admiration once she'd learned the name. "What do you think they should be called, Michael?"

"Does it matter?" Michael asked, "We know their appearance, their aroma, the feel of them. Why would we need a name?"

No, it didn't, really. Maia smiled and shook her head. She brushed her hand against the soft petals before standing. "Where to now?" She asked.

They had walked nearly the length of the park.
"Shall we go to the store, then?"

To the store, then! Maia had been looking forward to this, maybe most of all. "Okay," she said. She headed through the park, taking her phone out and calling a cab. "We'll go to Walmart, pick out some flowers and see if there's anything else you'd like."

Michael had seen WalMarts but had never gone inside one. it would be interesting at the very least. He would be able to truly experience it too, from sight to smell. He allowed Maia to take full control as they hopped into the cab.

When they arrived at Walmart, Maia's enthusiasm was obvious. She entered the store, grabbing a cart. "Tell me if you see anything you'd like," she said.

Michael emerged a bit again and flexed Maia's hand on the cart. Absolutely everything was fun to feel, because he hadn't felt in many years. His attention shifted to the inside of the store then while Maia controlled her own legs.

Michael was enjoying himself! Good! She'd hoped he would. She went towards the gardening second first. "I think something already grown," she mused. "Seeds'll be hard this time of year." She went over to one of the workers, explaining that she was looking for a houseplant that was low maintainace, difficult to kill, and didn't need much sunlight. He directed her towards a island sales area, gesturing to a particular plant. "They flower all year round," he said.

Michael let Maia keep control as they spoke with employees and found a plant, although the urge to mess with at least one of them was strong. When they arrived at the plant, however, he tilted his head without really thinking and, rather than speak to Maia, thought to her: "May I?"
Why yes, ghosts did sometimes drive people insane.

What? Oh... Michael wanted to scare the employees? Maia smiled, unsure how to respond to his thought otherwise. Why not? It could be fun!
