@Morgey - Yea I probably don't need it, but if I get halfway through break and find out I'm seriously wrong we'll see.

@Kits - Grimm wasn't the best example it's just the best lump bunch I could come up with (besides the serial killer type urban legends) at the moment. And again even Grimm has it's basis in mythology that was once believed, kind of the point of urban legends, primal fears. Shifters = shapeshifters, and what exactly you want to know is going to depend on which mythology, folklore, etc you are interested in. Some shifters are voluntary transformers, others are cursed, some can do it with ease, others can't. They have different motives, violence levels, etc. Just depends on original lore that your following before any basic analysis of a shifter can be made. To get really basic on you (and not generally what I'm thinking of when I think of urban legend shifters), Ranma 1/2 is about shifters. Those would be byproduct of curse rather than birth or intent, and there is no other personality shift that goes within in that case. Just a really basic version of shapeshifting. Native American lore generally deals with shifters in reference to skin-walkers, the ability to transform into any animal desired (by donning said animals pelt). Two very different examples of shifters. smile

As far as D+D shifters go, I would assume the basis would be more Norse, Slavic or Celtic inspired, that would be my guess. There are Eastern and Greco-Roman references and mythologies in regards to shifters as well.

I will shut up now. xd

Oops, double posting, haha, so off topic didn't realize I'd already posted on this thread and now I want to be on topic! Brief, but, I don't know how I feel about the Leather Pants remix, it's alright, but the front image was awesome and I was excited that it was going to be reanimated, nope.

I think the remix is alright, not great. But I already hated the thing it's been mixed with, so I'm not going to love it.

Ooh, there's a rap. Ha, I'm typing as I listen to it for the first time. Hmm... that was, yeah, no. Actually, on second listen, it's grown on me a bit.

Yeah, I don't really think it works. Although the picture is pure amazing.

I only watched the original video once anyway, so I can't really commiserate over the not-reanimation. D:

Yea I know I hated it until I got to the rap...and not that I like rap, but at least it was different enough to justify it's existence. Because for the first half it was like "here is something barely different that isn't even animated for my viewing pleasure."

The picture IS awesome, which is why I was excited and hopeful. And then sadly disappointed that that one picture was all I got. I mean at least a slide show of a few awesome scenes woulda been nice...*grumbles*

@JK: Ah, okay. In that regard, I already knew what shifters were (something that changes form in folklore), but I thought you were talking about some specific urban legend when you said they were gross. XD

And DnD Shifters are pretty much just characters that are mostly human, but have animal like qualities (there are different races of Shifters, so like 'Razorclaw,' the tiger Shifters, have long sharp nails, more pointed ears, pressed in noses, cat-like eyes, etc.), and then when they get hurt enough in battle, they're able to transform into an even more animalistic creature, kind of like the typical werewolves that have dog heads and fur and stuff, and are hunched over, but still have the form of a human, though maybe a bit less extreme than that. Pretty much the point of a Shifter in DnD is that they're able to become more powerful when they get hurt in battle.

Actually, the lore behind DnD Shifters is kind of interesting. Apparently they came to be because some crazy king hundreds of years ago force-bred (using magic to make conception possible) humans with a bunch of different races, like elves (which is how half-elves came to be), as well as werewolves and weretigers and all kinds of wereanimals. Shifters were born from those unions with the wereanimals, Razorclaw being from weretiger, Longtooth being from werewolf, etc. Then they became a race of their own and continued on.

As for the Leather Pants remix, I liked it well enough. I wasn't very convinced until the rap, which I felt made it worth it also. XD Granted, I also have a certain soft spot for the song they combined it with (what almost sounded like a series of musical beeps), because my friend used to always listen to that in elementary school, and she and her sister would do this thing whenever the song came on where they would pretend to blow their noses to the tune of the song, because the 'beeps' sounded like squeaky nose blowing. XD I hadn't heard it in years and got excited when I heard it with the remix.

Oh well when gross I was referring to skin peeling, not a facet of every shifter, but one of the grosser aspects of the ones that aren't "poof instant" something else.

Hmm, I know of another source that kinda did the were-hybrids, but now blanking on what it was.

I didn't particularly care for the song, so I can't say I liked it, and could really only attribute merit to it halfway through. Mostly though I think I just ended up disappointed by a very tantalizing picture.

ON TOPIC!

Ok so just watched the Ishtar Christmas video (conveniently uploaded 6 days into January, thus quite late for actual Christmas) and the Crash Test Yami video. If you haven't seen them don't read below...and go watch them...then read below. ^_^

The Christmas video was a horrible blasphemy and I can't believe they actually slashed DBZ into there, I think that's a new one. Actually rather like it, one of my favorite "original" stories (though not my favorite Christmas story, I think Seto's scrooge adventure with his horrible vision of the future still wins that). Also the end of the papa Ishtar's story was great, way to reappear Slender Man, although I now have great fear for baby Jesus, I'm really glad they didn't quite go there though. I'm not religious but...I dunno...yea that'd just be bad. Also, was it just me, or did Rishid sound like he was already sucking when he was talking to Malik at the end? Umm yea...I'll just leave that there.

That Crash Test Dummy song ALWAYS gets stuck in my head, just...it's so hypnotically soothing, so NOOOOOOOOO!! Although I do always like a good let's abuse Jaden. Oh, and I've never really seen clips of 5D, but yea now I'm kinda even more amused by the motorcycles than ever. I mean how does that even work? That really was SUCH a random combine. I mean it's like the biathlon, they seriously just pulled an activity out of a hat and stuck things together that don't make any sense being together. However the characters in 5D are still pretty (most of 'em), so I still kinda wanna see it. But alas, still absolutely zero free time, even less free time than usual.

Yea I gotta go do more research papers so I'll end that there for now.

On the Christmas video, I quite liked it. XD Even back when I was a Christian I think I would've liked it. I mean, it wasn't really bashing Jesus so much... just the Yuugiou characters and how big of douchebags they can be. I loved the DBZ cameo. And actually LK has included Vegeta and Nappa before, probably because of the over 9000 thing. He even features Ghost Nappa in some episodes, which is really weird, because as an avid DBZ fan, I don't even remember ever seen Nappa after he died, besides in flashbacks. And I rewatched the end after your little Rishid comment, but didn't really notice any sucking noises. ^^;; Maybe I'm just deaf.

I loved the other video too. I just love when Yuugi and Yuusei team up to bash Juudai. And their little stories in the song were great. I'm actually excited for 5D's, and even though I've seen some, I still don't understand how they duel. Thankfully the show has normal-style dueling as well.

Haha, I'd probably like it too, it's still horribly blasphemous, but I don't particularly find that to be such a big deal. However I'm pretty sure sicking a child eating monster after Jesus wouldn't go over so well with some people I know. razz

Yea the DBZ cameo was fun, and maybe, seems familiar...I just don't recall where. Just used to seeing all the Naruto and One Piece references over and over again, something else was nice for once.

It's not really a sucking noise, it just sounds to me like he's talking with his mouth full (so presumptively in the act of sucking out the venom already). But maybe that's just me.

Normal style? What? How can you duel without a motorcycle in the future? That's just mind boggling...hehehe. Yea the tag-teams amuse me as well. Poor J. xd

I was a lot more annoyed by the "This is gonna offend loads of people" disclaimer. I'm a Christian and I was all "Give me your best shot!" and ... eh. Nothing makes me happier than having something to b***h about, and that video didn't give me anything!
PostPosted: Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:53 pm

Haha, I know it was blasphemous in all the wrong ways. Which I guess is probably better than just outright offensive but still.

And...MORGEY!!!!!!!!!!! Haha, you live! You drowning in dissertation mayhem still? Got one of my 3 papers done, working on the second now...so not fun! Especially as all my classes are Monday and the first assigned LENGTHY novels (I'm audio booking one, forget the other, I'll read a summary) and the second an actual assignment for discussion. My professors really must hate me. ~_~

At least you guys don't have the Gaia Towns theme in your heads. I frequently hum it without realizing it. I always mute the Towns theme, because I hate it so bad. But I can't forget it. >.<

But yea, the Crash Test Dummy song was EXTREMELY hilarious. I laughed so hard and it'll probably get stuck in my head.

As for the Christmas special, I was sort of offended by the fact his father gave him a snake. Wait, did he give Marik a snake? I can't quite remember properly. The story was hilarious though, but still. I don't want Marik getting bitten by a snake. XP
