Still panting a little, the big cub pulled her head up, ears flicking forward. Another lion! The first she had seen since she had left the mountains. And for a heart-stopping moment she thought that her brother had found her. The same neat grey coat, easy demeanour... but as the stranger came forward, she shook her head at the idle fancy. This was none of her family. Close family, anyway. Knowing that her own white and grey fur stood out strongly against the undergrowth, she called out a cheerful greeting. "Rain greet you, brother lion! Fair travellings to you." Her courtesy disclosed, she shook her head slightly and paced a few steps forward, sun reflections off the splashing pool dancing over the landscape.

((preybreast... Just ignore me If I'm in the wrong spot.. ))
Mus the little African pygmy mouse scratched his way along at the very bottom layer of grass... He was in a rather foul mood and wasn't paying much attention to his surroundings, however he did know where he was going.... right to where the big cats were. Meeka wouldn't ever get a chance to call him a coward after this, becuase if you were only 50mm tall and you still somehow managed to brave your fear and touch the foot of a big cat, then your older brother would have to treat you with respect! at least that's how Mus saw it... he also saw the big cat's paw... he wondered if the big cat saw him too.... "Just reach out... " barely a whisper... "Just touch it... then run."... he had a feeling that he had been seen since he was cursed with red fur and he tended to stickout when in the green grass, but hey... who knew right? the rains had been slacking and the grass wasn't so very green anymore.... "Just... one more.... one more step..."
((whoever wants him (if any) can have him... but gimmie a couple of posts before he's eaten.... sweatdrop I kinda like him))

"And to you as well." He smiled- so she wasn't a leopard afterall but another lion! Her pelt was remarkably like his own in color and almost in pattern as well. Another one like himself. Surely the spirits were leading them all together at long last. He couldn't help but utter a few workds of thanks for this. "Welcome to these lands, might I ask what brings you here and from what lands you have passed to arrive in these parts?"
((Gah... short post. I got off work, slept, and now I'm gonna have to run errends then go right back to work)

[ *grins at the mouse* I would say 'twas 'Kela, but she be busy biggrin ]
'Kela grinned brightly at the young lion. Well, young - he was probably the same age as herself, but she just felt older, because she was that little bit larger. "I followed the rains, but they seem to have left these lands... I am Kinyamkela, daughter of Kimbizi, My pride, those who honour the Storm God, live far across the mountains. But I likeit here. Something makes me stop by these waterfalls." She stopped suddenly, unfamiliar uncertainity crossing her face as she realisees she's been babbling a bit. Shaking her head briskly she continues. "But what name do you go by? Do you live here too? There is no pride-smell near here, so I didn't think there would be any others around..."

"I am Maji - er...." He paused, putting a paw to his chin as he turned back to take a glance towards the "queen" and the others. She had said that he was a knight and had refirred to him as "Sir" rather than just "Maji" so he guessed that would be his "official" title. It was only proper to introduce one's self by their "official" title when meeting someone for the first time. Turning back to her he rotated his shoulders and corrected his stance so he looked both elegant and proud- but not so much that he seemed like he was looking down on the newcomer in any way.
"I am Sir Maji." He corrected himself in a more certain voice, smiling proudly at his title- what he had done to deserve such a title was beyond him but it was his new title all the same. "And yes, this is my home. According to the records it has been a while since others like ourselves have lived here- but it must not have been too terribly long ago.... two of them at least had to be my parents." He never really thought on that one, "I suppose it's been at least a few months since a pride lived here last." He motioned back to the others with a tilt of his head, "They are the only others I've seen with our coloring and they are new here as well. Were you with them? The queen and her squire? Or the white female?"

'Kela looked surprised. "Maji - don't mind if I call you Maji? - I didn't even know there were any other lions aorund here." She looked slightly cautious. "This queen and her squire - are they marking a pride around here? I haven't smelt any adults in months..." She moved slightly into the shade, grinning widely now that she had someone to talk to. "I didn't even know that the aults could live on fish, like me. Are there larger preybeasts around?" She looked hopeful. "And where have you been hiding? I really thought that there was no-one around...." She squinted slightly at the cub again, and let out a short uneasy laugh. "You know, I even thought you were my brother for a split second. Following me across the mountains. But I'm glad it's you," and she smiled brightly.

He couldn't help but chuckle a bit, his shoulders bouncing with his effort to try and muffle the emotion. He didn't want the lioness to feel out of place, or silly in anyway but she first spoke as if they were strangers to eachother - and they most certainly were - and then she spoke as if she knew him. "But I'm glad it's you.", she had said. So far to her, "you" was a silly cub who fancied himself a knight and had a pleasent smile. It didn't matter. He was overjoyed with the fact that there in his company stood so many that were like him - lions... lions with the colors of those on the walls. Perhaps they were his brothers and sisters, cousins maybe. It was hard to tell without any adults around. He'd never in his life as far as he could recall seen an adult. To him they might have been as large as he was only with more hair.
"Well I'm glad I'm me as well, and I'm glad you're you." His voice held a bit of that laughter he had tried so hard to supress but failed, "And I don't mind if you call me just Maji. I recieved the title from her highness the queen so it was only proper for me to introduce myself as such. As far as "prey"... fish are prey. There are my friends here. The antelope, the zebra, the creatures that feed from bugs and the like. Actually their diet really isn't bad. Perhaps you might meet some of them later on? The deer that is..."

The big cub dipped her head readily in agreement, before pausing suddenly to think. What- why did she suddenly think she could trust this one? Not five minutes before he had been an unknown threat... but now his local knowledge could be used. And he was a very polite chap. Like her family, her brother. Maybe that was why trust appeared miraculously. "We only used to eat fish and dikas," she tilted her head to the side. "So deer we may hunt?" Another thought struck her. "You're friends with the zebra? I've never spoken to one before... wait! Where have you been hiding that I have not come across you?" The curious cub's thoughts tumbled over one another like her tongue, and she let out a giggle before adding apologetically, "Sorry for the questions. I guess I just haven't talked to another in a long while," she conceded.

Maji looked off to one side, trying to conceal the slight wince that had formed upon his face at the mention of actually hunting the deer. Those were among his closest friends. On unbearably cold nights he had curled up with them. They trusted him... what was he to say? Surely if he told her that he didn't want them hunting the deer she'd think him silly or just do it anyway but with added spite for him. There was plenty of fish and bugs to live off of- and a green now and then wasn't bad either. It helped clear up stomach aches at least. Taking a deep breath he chose his words carefully in his response, "I'd... really rather that you didn't hunt the deer.... they are well... some of them are my friends you see... but these lands is in no danger of a fish or bug shortage any time soon."

'Kela tilted her head and narrowed her eyes slightly, before nodding peacefully. "If you wish, Maji. I can keep eating fish." The big cub winked before padding forward, looking around curiously. "You still haven't said where you sprang from, I mean I thought this place was pretty empty..." As she approached the river curiously, dappled sunlight throwing patterns against her pale fur, she seemed to pause, a thought coming from nowhere. "Are there caves perhaps that you were in?" She stopped, puzzled. Caves? What an odd thought! Where did that come from?

"Well yes... I've been living deep within the caves for as long as I can recall... which isn't far enough to really answer all of your questions that you might have about me.... they've not even answered my own questions to that reguard." He nudged her with his shoulder, gesturing with a nod in the direction of the waterfalls, "Behind the falls is a secret cave. That's where I've been hiding. Only I know how to navigate the maze left behind by the ancients.... and it seems I'm the only one that can read their history up on the wall. I thought that I was the only one period."
He looked off to the side- obviously all this had been bothering him for quite a time now. He was loanly and he had been for quite a while. In this one day more had happened that he'd only dreampt of before. Four lions very close to his colorings had appeared- all of them his age. He'd never played with another lion before. It would be safe to assume he'd never really played with anyone before. The antelope were his friends but they feared him still... he had claws and teeth and because of that they feared playing with him. Their games were different than lion games anyway and he'd never be able to take part. He couldn't butt heads or bound as high as they could.

The lioness cub took an unknowing step towards the waterfall, her golden eyes slightly unfocussed. "All on your own, Maji? That is no state of affairs for a lion," she said absently, a slight frown creasing her forehead. "This writing... is it...swirly and then angular? Like the mark upon my back, and on your shoulder?" She twisted absently to look at the large grey mark on her white back before looking to the male, long absent memories clamouring for attention. "I...once knew some writing like that..."
Images flashed through her young mind, of the fierce old steward of the pride (he refused to call himself king). His grey face with the shaggy white mane, lecturing the five cubs of her generation about the ancient writings and the proudness of their forgotten heritage; how they must always thank the giver of rain, the Storm King, for every meal, every drink ofwater they took from the land. The angular scratches labouriously scratched into the hollow treetrunk that she and her two siblings had guiltily peeked at in one morning of forbidden exploration. Kinyamkela shook her head and turned back to Maji, unspoken questions in her eyes.
