These guys our one of my favorites. They have alot of units, alot of upgrades, great close combat, and cool guns. Not to mention they are fun to assemble and paint. Whats not to like?

Its one of the most expensive armies to play (money wise)?

I'd have to say that an IG armored company would be the MOST expensive since it's mostly tanks. but you shouldn't be collecting a 40k army based on price, you'll just end up with a shitty force that was mabye (at most) only $100-150 cheaper
Not really, it's much cheaper to have two Armoured Fist squads than it is to have two Platoons, and if you're just building up from there, it won't be that bad. Any army that's all metal would be horribly expensive, so I think the sisters of battle have it pretty bad, they're all metal.

Just wondering what the general opinion on hormogaunts is? I know they are a vital part of the horde concept but for some reason they don't appeal to me as a troop choice. I do have a need for the lil'gautns though and am not sure what teh heck I am going to do with all those hormo spruces I will end up with while collecting at least 32 lil'gaunts.

i used the running bodies for both horma's and spinegaunts, which is actually what it shows on the box. after all, if you don't really like the gaunts, then you may as well just have the cheapest variant as a meat shield.

Hormaguants are basically just mass assualt infantry. It seems like they'd be great to escort one of your bigger beasties, to destribute enemy defending soldiers, and provide sheer numbers.

More bullets than bodies, generally speaking. Whom do you play?

bolters, heavy bolters, alien equivalents of them, flamers, heavy flamers, pie-plates of doom (large template weapons), and all in numbers... or be hard enough in hth to take on genestealers - dont know if anyone is... perhaps harlequins, or wyches, with superhuman intiative and inv save but those types reliant on armor are messed by rending claws and initiative.

Small nids are fairly easy to take down. a squad of eldar gaurdians can shoot them down if they are place 11" for the board edge. but the real worry is the big ones. IE the Fex! if your "m8" starts running a godzilla army mock him for doing this and try to bring enough big guns to drop them.

Note: if a nid player really wants to he can run 8 monsterous creatures in a 1700 pts game. But you should really tell them of how unfun that makes the game.

I dont really have a Codex for these guys yet and I'm going to start in about one month ( can't wait to start with Battle of Macragge ). But anyway to the point, I was going to paint my bugs with a Kraken fleet varient with instead of red exoskeleton it would be black, but the normal bones and areas under the skin are still red, is that an actual fleet or did I just make something I liked?
PostPosted: Fri Apr 13, 2007 11:39 pm

Well theres really only a few hive fleets. (Leviathan, Kraken, Behemoth) but there are infinite variations in the inumerable splinter fleets that have broken off. I'm working on Tyranids with a beetle color scheme myself.
