So, I bought the new plastic Devastators. And I made them Lootas, and gave the heavy weapons to Orks. I've made five out of the 8. Getting damn hands off if a b***h... I'll try to get some pics up sooner or later. Once my mom takes all her damn pictures off the camera. I don't have a digital one. On;ly the old school film one.

Awesome.

I'm looking forward to that myself. With the decision to run Death Skullz, I'm sorta required. wink

Haha, completely unrelated, but I love the sig. xD

Something I noticed. People really don't put it into perspective with Orks. Orks have gone longer without a new codex than anybody else. The ork codex is about as old as the old Eldar codex; that's kind of sad.

People also think that orks somehow "suck" or "don't give them much trouble" because they play their "l33t marines", which in my opinion are given way too much crap, simply because god knows 79% of people who play Warhammer 40k play marines, and 50% of those play Blood Angels. rolleyes

Orks are more of a fun army than a well.. I'm sorry to say, but noob army like marines. It's not like I haven't been there, I used to play Dark Angels, and I was able to play them fairly effectively at age 10; it isn't a difficult army. Orks may be underpowered in a feew way, but they are definetely competitive, people just use the wrong units in my opinion. Grots are kind of a waste. You have warbikes that will provide 5+ cover saves to any units behind them, you have Killer Kans which we all know are big dumb soak.

Kanz aren't there to tear the enemy a new one, that's what your sweeping tides of green are for. Kanz are there to get their asses kicked, if you ask me, but preserve da boyz. Sure, they're going to fight back, and definetely take some enemies with them, but they're there to divert fire. The enemy is sort of forced to shoot them; if they don't, they'll find the Kanz killing WAAAY more points worth of troops than the Kanz actually cost, in close combat.

There are a lot of the fine details about different Ork units that people tend to ignore.

Plus, it's now legal for normal orks to use boar boyz xd Cavalry never hurts.

I love playing as Orks. There's so much customizing you can do with their army that you can't do with the others. I love the Junk Yard Technology basis of Ork armie.s THe looting is also a big part of my army.

And I have thought about playing as the Death Skullz a bit.

Yeah, the whole looted idea of orks, it makes it SUCH a fun army to build, paint, and play. You can kind of let your imagination run wild on what crazy things orks would do.

With orks i'd hope they'd release a vehicle upgrade kit. Something thats full of orky gubbinz you could tack onto imperial or other races vehicles to help with Kunvertin' and all.

I am still waiting until I can put my Warboss on a boar or a bike.

As for the vehicle upgrade kit...

Really, all you have to do is use beaten up imperial tank bits, using modeling chain, wire, and leftover bits from different ork sprues. There's your ork tank kit.

True. If there was an Orky Sprue for vehicle conversions, everyone's would look the same.
That'sa Marine thing, not an Orky thing.

Thanks, love the username. Or, more appropriately, HATE the user name. Possibly the most annoying words to hear in that game - but good nostalgia nonetheless. 3nodding

Older, actually. The Ork Codex is the oldest in the game, older even than the Dark Eldar. It was the second Codex in 3rd Edition, and first Codex (Space Marines) was redone BEFORE 4th Edition showed up (and again after - and now they may get ANOTHER redo before Orks get theirs).

In 2008, when the new Codex arrives, it will have been an ENTIRE DECADE OLD.

You can always take pride in beating someone with the oldest Codex in existence.

Do what now? Can I get a reference for that?

On the ONE HAND, yeah, I don't care for a bunch of standard-issue Ork vehicles. (That naturally doesn't affect me since I don't ever field a model as sculpted.)

But on the OTHER HAND, it would be nice to have vehicle bits that were appropriately Orky WITHOUT plasticard - it would also be nice to have drivers that look like Orks, or vehicles that could actually hold more than four boyz.

I can't agree with that. Why would having a set of plastic big shootas, orks stiting down, holding onto bolt on big shootas, various sized plates with premade rivets and a variety of orky glyphs make all ork vehicles look the same. Its an upgrade kit to throw onto imperial vehicles to make them orky without having to scratch build everything or mutilate models that are much more expensive for bits.

The same way that if GW released a kit for basing your heroes, then every Lord and Commander would be stood on top of a pile of conveniantly bleached skulls in the middle of a decisive battle.

Oh wait.

First off, I've not run across that in my Gaming Group. Second, so what? Its better than no basing? I don't understand why its wrong for a group of people who don't want to punch out a million tiny plasticard rivets to just grab a premade armour plate and stick in on. I've never had anyone complain that my Orkalith uses fantasty Orc and Goblin shields for plates.
People who don't want to use them aren't going to be forced at gunpoint to buy and utilize an upgrade kit.

That's very true. I just dislike prodution line creativity. It's that I get the feeling that if they do release an Orky upgrade sprue for your looted vehicles, then there's going to be quite a few that look the same.

It's like Forgeworld. I commend them for their detail and dedication, but when you see one army with identical Rhino doors all from Forgeworld, it negates the point of using them to both personalise and individualise.

Well if you live in the UK it will probably be different. In the states I can't really drive down to Warhammer World and grab stuff so I rarely if ever see forge world stuff.

In the end having upgrade kits can only make kunvertin' easier and more widespread. Sure you'll come across people who don't bother to do anything but stick on some orky plates and glyphs but thats their choice for their army. At the same time however I could see perhaps a plank upgrade being used to make a battle wagon with outriggers that end in trukks!

So it cuts both ways.
