*Maggie stands a few feet away, glancing first out the window, then back to watch Bard as he speaks. When he stops and turns back to her, she shakes her head* Oh, nay, I . . . *it's a little strange, to hear about another girl he used to care for, but still . ..* I am glad te know more about ye.

*Bard smiles at her, watching her, a thoughtful expression on his face. Outside the window, it begins to rain over the New York cityscape. Lightning flashes and he turns back to watch the scene*

I'll tell you anything you want to know.

*Maggie pauses, then crosses over to stand next to him at the window. She's quiet for a moment, looking out on the foreign world shown there*

Things are . . . so different, I . . . *she watches the rain stream down, a pensive expression settling on her features* There is so much I want te share with ye, te know about ye, about yer life, I . . . . I've ne'er . . . *she stumbles over her words, unsure how to express what she's feeling*

*Bard slides his arm around her waist* Never what?

*Maggie halts, blushing, but she shifts a little closer to lean against his side* I... I've ne'er . .. *her voice is quiet, but thick with feeling* I've ne'er in my life felt like this before, the way I feel for ye . . . I ne'er thought I might e'er love someone as I love ye . . .

*Maggie wraps her arms around him in response, standing up on her toes to return his kiss. She holds on to him tightly, trying somehow, through kissing him, embracing him, to convey how much she feels but does not know how to say*

*After a long moment, Bard draws back, brushing the damp tangle of her hair with his hand. Lightning flashes, illuminating the both of them for a moment in cold blue light. The thunder crackles close behind. Bard's face falls into a pensive expression. He draws Maggie into a tight embrace*

*Maggie keeps her arms around him, letting her head rest against his chest. In the quiet after the thunder fades, she can hear his heart beating. She sighs softly, just listening for a minute.*

*Bard cradles her, saying gently* Mo told me once, "every sigh is a thought we can't quite put into words."

I think Mo must be very wise.. *Maggie replies quietly. Still holding him closely, she turns her head slightly to see the raindrops running down the glass. She knows they're not real, but from here, they may as well be*

The rain . . . always reminds me of so much. . . *she murmers* 'Tis been raining steadily like this for a few days now, at home . . .

*sensing something more, Bard prompts* It rains a lot in Portland. It can be pretty miserable, rain without relief like that.

It can be . . . *her voice catches, but she continues* For a farmer, in my time, for their family, too much rain can be . . . devastating. . . as bad as none at all. If the fields flood, the entire crop can be lost . . . and . . .

Maggie... *Bard is unable to keep a tinge of worry from his voice* If you and Will are in any trouble...

Oh, nay . . . Will and I are alright. *Maggie lifts her head to look up at Bard, assuring him* Ainsford would be better able to deal with a crop failure than . . . than some villages. And, now that we are at the inn, we dinna have te depend on that quite so much . . . *she glances out the window again*

I just . . . I spent so much of my life as a farmer's daughter, and then . . . *she falters a moment* . . . and then as a farmer's wife. I suppose I still think like one, sometimes.

*and while it's true that she does, there's more to it than that. She watches the rain with the look of someone who knows far too well the damage it can do*
