Rep came back, it wasn't too hard to get the civs to come along when the prospect of freedom, a bath and liberal servings of hope was put onto the table.
Lying made him sick to his stomach and the girl, reluctantly holding his hand had told him it was shaky. He moved to where Harrison was. "Come with me." he said, though he didn't need to. "You stay with Alice and the Life evac team, then you come back."
He headed in the door and down the stairs, kids in tow.

"Something to that effect," he replied with a toothy grin as he swung at its legs on the other side. "New coat, new s**t around to mess it up. You still stuck under Sunny's thumb?" Promotion did not by any means lighten his own load in the infirmary when he got put in rotation, but at least he felt competent these days.

There was a tiny little child hugging herself close to Mimsy's leg, a tiny little child who wanted to be near her and not Robert, and that made absolutely no sense. It fell beyond the realm of any comprehension, and she slowly looked down to marvel at the sight. This presumably was some sort of attempt for comfort, and her only personal metric for comforting a child remained what she'd witnessed herself doing in another world - so she carefully lowered her still-gloved hand onto her head, and began to stroke her hair. "That is what we are doing." Robert was too far for her to reach while she was cemented in place with a child-shaped anchor, but her eyes remained on him for every possible moment. "And it is almost done. Then we will begin anew with the two of us, until it is safe to be three again." As good as her intentions were, it looked a lot like she was simply petting a dog. "Thank you," she told Rep, opting for simplicity rather than expressing all of the reasons that she appreciated what he was doing, and the care with which he was doing it (in this case, at least, which was the only important one). Harrison received a simple "thank you" as well, as she tried to ignore how monumentally terrible it felt to have a small Alice slip away from her. "Goodbye, Alice." She offered a wave as the girl took Harrison's hand. "You will be all right now." She was confident of that, which was where her confidence ended. Each step towards Robert was taken with her gaze focused at her feet, excepting an occasional glance at him in anticipation of a 'no' or a 'go away' or another glimpse of his anger directed at her. When she made it to him successfully, she collapsed against him, her arms falling loosely around his waist. "I believed because I was afraid. I was wrong," she confessed, muffled against his collarbone. "But you were too: I wasn't strong enough. I'm not strong enough. Together I weaken us. I'm sorry I make you not strong."

"It is to be joining me in my fortress of pillowy softness or nothing at all!" He declared, still grinning like an idiot before he let out a low chuckle, again whipping his head back and forth like a dog to rid his hair of it's build up of water, likely splashing Horace, Lex, and the newcomer who appeared out of the darkness, wet and disheveled and with a rather large hammer in tow. One more little thing to say to Horace, first. "You would like that, I bet. Give you an excellent view to go to sleep by, this lovely moon of mine." Another laugh and he was turning his attention more fully towards the woman. "Ah, but of course you may join us! We were just uh..." He looked towards Lex, than back to Horace. "I am not so sure. Were we going to the camp?" Lex was, it seemed. "There are probably more people out there that could use our help?"

He was just counting down the days till he got stuck in Mexico. Leslie wasn't ever sure if he was excited or nauseous. Worse? Maybe it was both. "I'm still a far way off from promotion, unfortunately. They'd be idiots to do it anyway." Leslie punctuated this with a particularly striking blow, one of the legs of Barry crumbling clean off. Jack feigned offense and struck Barry as an afterthought. "If you think I'm the worst Lifer here, I don't think you've been paying very close attention.
"As for promotion," he shrugged, "time doesn't particularly matter. I took over a year. The point is living until then and beyond which, judging by the energy and enthusiasm of your clubbing, doesn't seem like an issue for the present or future." He grinned like it was a secret--as if that fact had ever been in contention, knowing what he knew.

Alice felt the hand brushing against her hair, trying to comfort her, and it had the intended effect. She leaned into that hand, until someone else reached for her, taking her hand and taking her for a walk. She stumbled, thinking of how sad her daddy would be if he knew how many people had been passing her around, but shook her head when he asked her if she was hungry. The mall had a distinct smell and feel and none of it was conducive to an appetite. But her eyes widened when he told her that she was going to see the white coat people again, and she didn't look frightened of the prospect. She looked back at Mimsy and Robert, and decided she would do the exact opposite of what Harrison was warning her to do. Not because he'd told her, but because she wanted to see them again, one day. She waved an overly excited goodbye, and Harrison's curse to be the bearer of unregistered bad news continued. --- Mimsy couldn't just return to normal after driving Robert to the brink of insanity. When she collapsed against him, he whined, his face crumpling with shame and sadness combined. "But you believed." He whimpered, unable to stop himself from wrapping his arms around her even if he didn't feel like he deserved it. "You believed that s**t for one second and I thought I'd done a better job of showing you how impossible that could be. I thought we were supposed to be impenetrable. What's changed? Where did I fail you here? What could have made you even hear those words, let alone believe them?" He lifted his head, and watched the girl be led away. She was still waving, but she'd begun to turn away just as Robert looked up. She looked like she was going to be safe, and that meant their lives were worth the effort, and the sacrifice. "I can't stand this ******** place unless I know that nothing can touch us, Mimsy. I can't take this s**t anymore without that to help me get by."

Well, someone was a natural flirt. Lex smiled, Tommy's antics reminding him very much of himself, pre-island. He missed those days on the cold and lonely nights when Ami was off in the labs and he was staring at a ceiling, trying not to think about the perfect circle of scar tissue on his chest.
"Yes, I think we'd be of more use there than here." Lex's eyes were on the other Hunters. He'd heard the word infected being thrown around a bit, and preferred to not be near anyone who posed that sort of threat, Hunter or not. He glanced at Horace and the unknown woman with the hammer, a brief nod sent her way. "Something's coming - Rep told us that already. It would prove foolish to not heed his warning. It's like you said, Horace: he knows something."
A final rune was taken and pressed to his forearm, Regal chirping that more healing would just be a waste of time.

He barked a laugh even as Barry's unnatural limbs knocked his sword back. Well, it wasn't a lie.
"Do I remember what ended up being the worst ******** thing to happen as far as inpatient overflow in recent times? Yeah, a little." Most of the time had been spent stumbling around in the dark, trying to figure out how to subdue Ripley and dealing with the fact that Finn had gotten bitten and a little too protective about knocking their friend out around the same time.
"I'm waiting for those old bites to, well, bite us in the a**," Jack said more grimly. "I'm clean, before you ask." Well, at least as far as he knew. Hunters were starting to succumb to the disease now, so it was probably only a matter of time.

Joy shouldered her weapon as she caught the flashlight, gratefully saying "Thank you!" She took care not to point the beam directly at the civilian, rather aiming the shaft of light in her general vicinity because there was no sense in ruining one's night vision.
"Ah, ********, the PA guy hasn't said anything about that, has he?" Joy belated remembered the whole "secret organization" thing and tried her best to backpedal. "It's a fancy name I use to make myself feel important." It wasn't entirely a barefaced lie, "But really, all you need to know is that I'm here to get you to the ice rink. Where all the other civilians are." At that, she pointed the flashlight towards the direction they were supposed to take.

He shook his head. "We're just treating the symptoms at this point. After this ******** thing goes down again, it's back to barricades and bandages until the next ******** shows up." Like slapping literal bandaids at this point.
"Not even bringing up whatever's burrowed down below," Jack added as the floor rumbled, muddying his attack mid-swing.

In all that she had done correctly during their efforts to get Alice to safety, in all that she had gotten right, Mimsy knew that succumbing to that insecurity was wrong, and she flinched when his first words validated it. It was wrong when she set his room on fire to rid it of that painful name, and it was wrong to react as she had now, but knowing that hadn't prevented her from believing in the moment that her feelings were entirely justified. "Because she was finally real!" It came out too loud and insistent, and she mumbled an incoherent apology before taking a deep breath and trying again. "It's easy to believe that my fears should not be fears when they do not seem to exist. The impossible is much easier to believe alongside you when we are not faced with evidence. It doesn't mean that we can't achieve the impossible when the evidence is present, it's...it requires strength, and it..." She wanted to stop now and suggest for them to leave. They could walk out of the mall and never go back. They could build a new home, because he promised her a home in every world, and they would have the rest of their lives there. She wanted it, but that seemed wrong. Weak. "I heard and believed--failed you--because those words are what I am afraid of, and when I sought your reassurance..." She shivered, her skin crawling with the inexplicably persistent itching. "I looked at you and saw a child in your arms who wasn't ours. She was Alice and she still wasn't ours."
