Yes! Yes thats absolutely correct!
She had put that together beautifully. Walter was indeed a chef, and a very good one at that!
She seemed to have really taken the concept of playing with her food to heart. Though deep inside Maximos could never understand why Walter continued to make these salad creatures if not to be played with. Teira seemed to be enjoying herself and thats what truly mattered, her own instincts would pull her to the other foods when she got hungry enough.
Until then, Maximos tried to calm her.
Oh no, Teira you dont have to eat it. But if you dont it will go bad in a few days.
Salad, even magical salad is just not meant to sit outside.

"Go bad?"
She whimpered looking at the vider lovingly and clearly not understanding what Maxi meant.
"If Vider is good, Teira can keep?"
She looked at him beseechingly.

Maximos had to show her, yet he tried to do it gently.
In a few days this...
Maximos said picking up a stalk of celery...also known as a Vider leg.
...will go bad, and become this.
The Shadow effectively drained the remaining life from the celery turning it dark green with brown spots, and limp. He gave her something of a sympathetic face as he tried to hit her with bluntly, yet gently and quickly, like ripping a band-aid off fast.
...In a few days, the Vider will die.

She watched horrified as the stalk of celery withered before her eyes. She looked at the adorable veggie spider as it tested the bars of it's bread cage and then back at the wilted vegetable, picturing the vider limp and lifeless...
"die... dead... death... cease to exist... lifeless... deceased..."
Her mind sorted through related words and meanings that flooded her thoughts as she tried to understand.
She sniffled as the first tears spilled forth from her eyes and she rocked the cage in her eyes mournfully.
"but-- why?"

Maximos Maximos would lead the group outside, through a maze-like series of halls and doors before they returned to the spiral staircase, and once again breached the Windmill. About 100ft ahead of them, in a small clearing surrounded by trees and freshly cut grass, was a large black and white checkered table cloth set out across a wooden collapsible table. It was of course large and overstuffed with food in the same manner the table full of bakeries was before. Everything was fresh, guests never go left over. And plates and forks were set out on a separate table that Walter stood in front of ready to serve. The man worked fast...how, well that was a mystery, as much as a mystery as Walter himself. Rae looked at everything, taking it all in as they moved along. She had not had much of a chance to look around before her..nap... when they first arrived at the island, and now she was quite impressed! " Spiffy!" whee

Fate was cruel.
Maximos felt that, he felt it right beside his heart. He was a Reaper, a servitor of Death. The pain and anguish Teira felt was something he had to face on a daily basis, something he had to see in the faces of people simply not ready to go. And family not ready to let go.
He could not simply brush this aside or let it roll off his back like water. This was as jagged and painful a pill to deliver as it was to swallow. But...he would not spare this reality. To do so would be hypocracy on the highest level. Pity, understanding, concern, and sadness filled his features. His smile shrunk for a bright wide affair, to a small dying rise of the cheeks. He stepped forward, pulling out the chair beside her and reaching a hand out to grasp her free hand and hold it carefully between his.
...Departed...passed away...expired...gone...
He added to her list, in a gentle way affirming she had the right concept in mind.
...Death...
He said carefully, being sure to look her right in the eye. It was important she see he understood her pain when he said this. That way she could see he didnt like the way things were either, he was with her, not against her.
...Is the price we each pay for life...you...me...Walter...everything dies Teira...everything in its own time. For some that is very long, for others it is very short...
Of course that alone is a horrible realization to give to anyone, much less an innocent girl. Maximos did his best to temper morbid truth with hope, his left hand lifted from hers, his thumb gently wiping away her tears.
Dont cry...enjoy it while it lasts...keep those memories close...
His smile gently widened as his hand moved to rest on the cage.
...as long as you have those, he'll life forever.

Elves were long lived... death was something that Sierra knew all too well. It was an education in understanding that had started at a young age. The pet she'd had when she was small... the murder of her mother... her vengeance as she slew her father... a blood soaked history. The taking of many lives. Some innocent others not. Even in times of peace, she simply outlived her human friends. Watching them wane with old age and leave this world, and her... behind. But all of this... was sealed tightly away, Teira knew nothing of it.
She looked at the sympathy and compassion in Maximo's eyes as he brushed away her tears. Hugging him tightly with one arm and cradling the vider in the other she pressed her forehead against his chest. It was comforting, his closeness... and she settled enough to look up at him, an idea coming to mind.
It seemed horrible that something with only a few days to live... should spend those days in a cage.
"Can we-- lets it go?"
She asked with a sniffle, rubbing at her nose. Sadness filled her voice... but she didn't cry now, despite the waver in her words. She pulled herself together.

So this is what being a father is like?
Maximos spent each and everyday reading the souls of everyone he met, everyone he saw. He could not see the flesh, but the spirit. Tiera's body was a womans, but Maximos saw an innocent child, scared, hurt, sad...He gently draped his arm around her. He wanted to show how much he cared, he wanted her to feel warm and welcomed...
But this was all entirely a foreign feeling...His father never held him, never hugged him, was never there. His mother was off adventuring only returning home to heal his more serious wounds, spend a little time, and be off again.
His embrace was awkward. But real, and sincere.
Yes, of course.
He said with a bright smile. Teira wanted to let food free...that was absolutely silly. But it was a child's job to be silly, it was their nature. He appreciated it. Though he would make a note that Walter should no longer serve the children magically animated food. Teira's reaction was nothing compared to D's. The boy broke into a psychotic rage and chased the Vider across the dining room destroying...many...many things.
Come, lets go back outside.
He'd take her back outside, back through the house and to a more floral section of Walter's garden. Where else would a vegetable insect want to be, than around other veggies?

" Spiffy!" whee Donner was beginning to feel dizzy as he was lead out, trying hard to keep up with the others. The place and it's darkness didn't agree with him...or perhaps it had been the room... ...Regardless, when he was finally shown true light, he let out a sigh of releif. Stepping onto the grass of the clearing, he breathed in a long, deep breath of fresh air, feeling the tenseness within him relax. Leaning back, he suddenly fell onto his back, feeling the grass on his arms and head, smelling it around him. "You guys go ahead...i'll be there in a minute..." He said dreamily, letting his body soak up the sun.

Where else would a vegetable insect want to be, than around other veggies? She grinned, her eyes glittering with the gloss of tears, the biggest grin Maximos had ever seen spread over her features as she looked at the Vider lovingly. She held it like a most cherished possession as she followed him outside. Sighting the vegetable garden she quickened her pace. She scanned the plants choosing the perfect place to release her friend.
"Here you goes little one..."
She whispered softly, tenderly to the vider as she knelt amidst the zucchini and pumpkins. The large, fat orange pumpkins resembled buildings with their vines spiraling outward like a green jungle gym, perfect for playful viders! And the zucchini boasted such lovely yellow blossoms. To the side were juicy lettuce, what more could a little vider ask for she thought.
"Be happies little friend."
With a crunch she pulled the top off the bread cage and let the vider skitter out warily, but curious.
Stepping back she let it go with a smile and a sniffle.

Maximos even went so far as to wave as it scurried off. A wave followed by a relaxed.
Ahhh...
The little vider vanished amongst the vines and grass and over and through the cabbage patch as fast as its celery legs could take it. They had done it, and sadness had turned to smiles. They had officially set dinner free in the garden!
While in a millions years Maximos likely never would have thought that would a crowning achievement, it felt like one.
Feel better?
He said with a smile.

Grace sat down in the grass a few feet away from John, she was rather relived to be out of the dark as well, especially since she was feeling a hell of a lot less steady after 'Andi's uninvited intrusion.

She nodded decisively, wiping tears from her eyes and smiling. Without even realizing it, she had learned an important lesson. That while we may desire someone to remain with us, sometimes we have to set them free if it's better for them... even if it hurts.
Grabbing Maxi's hand she gave it a little squeeze as she turned back towards the windmill.
She had non vider foods waiting to be appreciated by her tummy!
"Vider happy now."
She told herself quietly...

Maximos didnt even think to venture a look back until he heard the rustling of the grass and saw Tomorrow laying across the field like some large animal. He just assumed it was some sort of Tribal/Norse/Primal habit shrugged continuing to lead.
Before he had even turned completely back around Rae had him. He was startled, but he didnt resist, there was just about a second or two of quirkiness before it seemed entirely natural. A feat only Hono had previously been able to perform.
Without delay, they made their way to the Walter's table where Maximos grabbed two plates and silverware, offering one to Rae and keeping one for himself. This spread included literally hundreds of meals, Walter always cooked to an extreme like this. But it left room for anyones appetite, as long as they were willing to try odd dishes that didnt exactly appear to be of Gaian origin or Gaian ingredients!
Once Rae and Maximos were on their way Walter calmly made his way over to Tomorrow and Grace. Always a quite calm on his face and voice as he gently said.
Is everything to your liking Mr. Tomorrow?
