Fields paled slightly when Caesar spoke, and though he didn't respond, the look on his face confirmed the question. After an agonizingly long minute, the doctor remembered to breath and let out a sharp exhale. "Vell, that vas the straw that, ah, broke the camel's back." he muttered. "It started long ago, before I vas like this und Decius vas like that. Before he turned into... that he vas Bernard Rieux. He vas younger than me by almost ten years, und though I studied so much more science, he vas... he vas better than me." Fields hissed the last part, still unable to fully accept it. "Ein vas assigned to be his assistant. Ein vas stuck cleaning beakers und prepping labs, not even doing anyzing ein vanted to do. He, just und kid, vas able to do everyzing ein trained so hard to do.
"Ein hated him. Ein hated him from the very first day ein met him. Und then he took her too." Fields' eyes became exhausted as that part of the story finally surfaced. "Ein vas in love vith und woman named Odette. She vas sweet und kind, everyzing ein vasn't. Ein never had the courage to talk to her, ein only entered her candy shop vunce or twice und week to 'buy candy'. Vun day ein decided to talk to her, und when ein did ein had realized that she vas engaged, und to Rieux of all people.
"He took everyzing from me; mein job, mein life, mein love. The Allies' arrival didn't make things much better." Fields sighed and rubbed his temples, then looked over at Caesar sadly. "Ein am sorry. It isn't the best story to tell you of all people, but it's the truth." He smiled tiredly. "Ein am glad it all happened, honestly. At least ein met you." He leaned over and kissed the demon's forehead, though he wasn't sure if it was a welcomed gesture at the moment.

I can't live with myself, so stay with me tonight." ______________________________________________________________________ Caesar listened to him speak, trying to fight the urge to break something. Yeah, it hurt knowing that the reason Fields had been after him was because he had wanted revenge. In his eyes, Rieux took everything, even the girl he loved.
He had prepared himself over and over in his head so that when he finally heard the words he knew he'd hear, he didn't react as childishly as he normally did. Him and Caesar did not know each other very long so it shouldn't have been a surprise that Adler had at least a few lovers or interests in his time. He continued to listen, doing his best not to lose himself in his own dark thoughts.
When the man finally finished speaking and leaned over to kiss his forehead, Caesar closed his eyes and sighed. He took Adler's hand and held onto it with an almost sad smile. "You could have told me sooner but I can be very immature, I know. I am selfish, childish at times, jealous, strangely needy and I am a monster that had murdered more people than a population of a small city. I am not easy to live with and I don't believe that I have any redeeming qualities that are worth anything, but if you overlook all of that and still have me, then none of that matters. I don't care if that is why you hate him or if that is why you had once chased him." The demon sits up and leans against the other man, his hand still holding onto Adler's. "But I must know...you aren't um...you aren't chasing him because of that anymore are you? Be honest."

I can't live with myself, so stay with me tonight." ______________________________________________________________________ The demon closed his eyes as the warmth of the other man comforted him. How did he become so involved with the scientist? "Adler, what did you do for those three days I was gone? I've thought about it before, but I haven't wanted to ask so soon." Caesar opens his eyes to small slits as he squeezed Adler's hand softly. "You weren't looking too good when I found you lying in bed."

I can't live with myself, so stay with me tonight." ______________________________________________________________________ He didn't like the sound of it or the image he had gotten in his head when he listened. Visualizing a broken Fields was heart wrenching all on its own. When Adler moved to Caesar's experience, he had to close his eyes completely to remember how he felt. "It felt like I was sleeping for the first time in a long time. I saw images and memories as if I were dreaming. My past was thrown in my face repeatedly but then suddenly stopped when it reached me meeting you. It felt like I was watching a movie of our life after we met. For whatever time I had left of resting, I just saw us and how close we had gotten. The last thing I remember seeing is my death and then I woke up in some place that just smelled awful like death. My body was aching and my thoughts were cloudy. It took me a moment to remember who I was but when I did, I just had the urge to just go home. I wanted nothing more than to be home and to see you and before I knew it, I was sitting in my bathroom with the nasty dead smell sticking to me and dried blood all over."

I can't live with myself, so stay with me tonight." ______________________________________________________________________ He had to admit, it sounded pretty cheesy the way the man said it, but it summed up how he currently felt. He didn't like them worrying so much over what happened before or what will happen. He just wanted to spend whatever time he could with the man. With a smile, Caesar leaned closer and planted a small kiss against his cheek. "As silly as it sounds, I agree. I think for once I am glad to have my regeneration abilities, so I could come back and keep you outta trouble." The demon lightly tapped Field's arm with his fist as he let out a light chuckle. He was going to keep from mentioning that he probably was the reason Fields had gotten into so much trouble lately.

The doctor scowled. "Hmph, you only save me because you have powers." he said in a way to maintain what masculinity he had left. They stayed quiet for a moment, relishing their small embrace, when the doctor spoke again. "It's getting late." he murmured, gazing forward at nothing in particular. "Maybe ve should go to bed."

I can't live with myself, so stay with me tonight." ______________________________________________________________________ The demon sat in the silent embrace for a moment before he pulled away from Adler and slowly stood. It took him a moment with his shaky legs, but he finally managed to stand up straight with a groan and give the man a determined smile. "N-No, I want to do something, something of your choice this time. We have gone where I wanted to, I want to go where you want to go." Clearing his throat, Caesar rubs the back of his neck as he looked away in an embarrassed manner. "Ah, um, if you aren't tired that is. I am feeling a little better so I am good to go..."

The pain was fading already, so much so that the demon could stand straighter now. He hadn't expected that man's kick to hurt so much, but he wasn't very surprised by it either. Everyone in this town and in the school seemed to surprised him everyday. Especially the man sitting before him.
Adler was a strange man just for the simple fact that he disliked people in general, wasn't gay, and only had something to do with supernatural creatures if it meant them being bait or experiments. Yet, here he was, shacking up with his demon lover who coincidentally hated humans but was with one. Okay....so they were equally strange then.
Waiting for his lover to respond, Caesar nervously fidgeted with his sleeves. He would have understood if Fields was no only too tired for it, but just wasn't interested in going anywhere else. But the demon could not resist asking him since they pretty much do what he wants when they aren't hunting for Decius or Rieux. Was it silly of him to just want to act like an actual couple in public for a change?
Hearing what the man suggested, Caesar's face lit up and he smiled happily before leaning down and giving Fields a quick kiss. Pulling away, the demon quickly scurried away to his room, returning with fresh clothes a few minutes later. "A walk would be nice, and fresh air sounds good right now. It is getting a little stuffy being inside all the time."

  The day started with a painful sizzle and an annoyed growl from the male. Had he left the curtain open again? Groaning, the demon scoot away from the ray of light and closer to his lover in the bed as he ducked underneath his covers. It was probably morning, so it would be exactly 5 more minutes before his alarm went off for him to go make breakfast. Whose idea was it to make him a housewife again?! Oh yeah....his. Nuzzling against the other body in the bed underneath the blankets, the demon sighed. He could hear the whispers urging him to wake up now but he tried to ignore them as he enjoyed the warmth.
But, in a blink of an eye, the alarm sounded and the demon emerged from the blankets again, carefully moving to shut it off. Because his side of the bed was covered in sunlight, the demon had to work his way to the end of the bed and slide off that way, trying to do so quietly to avoid waking Adler. When his feet touched the floor after some shuffling, Caesar stretched out and yawned. Another successful night's sleep in his book. He has been counting the days he is able to sleep without being kidnapped and waking up in a strange place. Walking around the bed to get to the bedroom door, Caesar takes a quick pit-stop to press a soft kiss on the German's cheek before he leaves the room.
As he walked throughout the house, all of the windows that were filling the room with light were covered in darkness, shielding the demon from the burning rays. He remembered the day that the sun started to affect him in such a way. It was such a strange day for him. He had always been just fine with the light but the more he unlocked his powers, the less he was able to stand the daytime. It was a shame really, he liked the warmth the sun brought him. "I wonder what I should make for him today?"
His shoulder became coated in a thick black smoke and whispers started to sound around him. He sighs softly and turns on the light to the kitchen, making his way over to the fridge to take out the eggs."Just because he is German, doesn't mean I need to feed him sausage every morning. That is very stereotypical of you, don't let Adler hear that." Humming softly to himself, Caesar takes out a few eggs wand a bowl before cracking them open and poring the contents inside. "Maybe something sweet would do today? French toast sounds nice, don't you think?" Listens to the whispered response and chuckles softly before he continued on his humming, making a breakfast someone had shown him for his lover.
