Elliot could feel his anger bubbling, watching his lantern, making sure the light stayed white without so much as a flicker. It was a hard task. "I pay you nothing, I hardly use you for bedroom activities," most of which hadn't taken place in the bedroom "and I continuously tell you that you are my companion, not a bentien." He said, voice wavering between calm and anger.

Leo could sense the anger coming off his master in waves. he felt his body still and watched the man carefully, trying to look for any sudden movements. but none came, the master's anger was directed at him, though. he knew that much. but what could he say? what could he do to make up for what he had done to anger the master? what had he done to anger the man? he carefully went over his words, but he couldn't find anything that might cause anger. he'd only spoken the truth.

the prince was thankful for Leo's silence, thinking carefully and forcing his anger away, if even temporarily. "You are my friend, Lily. You are my companion, you are to stay at my side and you are supposed to be there for conversation. Your title of a bentien has no say in my presence. Your title is friend."

Leo stared at the master as if the man had gone insane. "Fr-iend?" he said softly as if testing out the word. "i-i am not sure what a 'friend' even is anymore, master." the word was such a foreign concept to him now after all that had happened. "master, why would you want someone like me as a friend?" that was the most curious thing. he could understand as a companion, but a friend? to be a friend meant you were on equal standings and leo couldn't bring himself to even thing them possible of such a thing.

"A friend is everything you have been doing, from talking to me, to speaking your mind and making sure I keep my emotions in check." He smiled weakly, fearing Lily would once again go into shock and deny that bentiens could not have such a status. "You are the only person who is my friend. The formalities are everywhere, and while you remain polite, you are not formal. You cannot begin to fathom how big a breath of fresh air it is."

Leo blinked a few times and looked down at his hands. Friend. the master was-was his friend. somewhere deep inside, a part of him that had been long frozen thawed and a tiny smile creased his lips. "if-if that is what master wishes. i...can be his friend." he looked up at the man out of the corner of his eye, "but-only in private. if-another were to find out that i dare-dare think of myself as anything more than your ben-companion..." he trailed off and shivered, not wanting to think about it.

Elliot looked in shocked when the other smiled and agreed. The lantern light almost seem to freeze there on the sheet before blue and yellow merged together, not making green, but living together in the glass bulb. "I," luckily Leo continued to speak, Elliot smiling happily. "Yes, in private we are friends, right now we are friends." And hugged Lily tightly, smiling into his shoulder.

Leo rested his head on the master's shoulder, wantonly letting himself be embraced. he needed it, after all of the emotional upheaval of the past hour he was exhausted. he just wanted to fall asleep right here on the master's shoulder, but he wouldn't allow himself to. he pulled away after a moment and smiled, "what shall we do to pass the time, master?" right now he was willing to do anything for the man.

Elliot allowed the other to pull away, still keeping his own pleased smile. "That's a good question. I've never entertained a friend before." and snorted, chuckling happily to himself, biting back the joyous laughter. "I'm happy. Oh these are good emotions." And leaned his back against the closed door. "This is a field neither of us are experts at. How do people entertain their friends, I wonder. Thoughts?" He asked Leo, waiting for his opinion. Chances were they'd just discuss this and then let the conversation turn as it may.

Leo thought for a moment, what did friends do? his brow knit together and he pursed his lips slightly as he thought. "Tsume and i would play in the forest, but we can't do something like that here-" his eyes widen and he looked at the master blankly, "Tsume?" he blinked a few times before frowning, "Tsume...who?" but for some reason he couldn't put a face with the name. Leo closed his eyes and forced himself to go back into his memories of before, which were usually locked down tight. long seconds passed before Leo remembered, "Tsume!" his head snapped up and he looked around, "oh-how could i have forgotten?" but he knew how he'd forgotten and why. Tsume was dead. he'd died defending Leo the night he was taken. The memory of seeing Tsume laying in a pool of blood, not moving no matter how loud Leo screamed, had haunted him and he'd forced himself to erase it, and with it all memories of Tsume.

"I don't think I've played in a forest. But who's Tsume?" It appeared to be a hidden wound, Elliot watching Leo's face go from blank to confused. The prince was praying it was a happy memory, praying to the lord he didn't rip open a closed wound. The other soon spoke, making him jump and stare, noticing the color draining from the other's face. "Lily? What did you forget?" he asked, leaning forward, Leo's face suddenly pale. "Lily calm down, remember to breathe, what are you remembering?"

Leo shook his head a little, "Tsume, i forgot Tsume." he closed his eyes, "Tsume is-was my companion. he-his family served my mother's people for generations. we grew up together..." he opened his eyes and took a shaky breath. "i forgot him." he felt so lost, so broken at the realization that he'd forgotten someone so important to him. yes, the loss of his friend had hurt, it still did, but to erase his existence completely from his memory was unforgivable. "master, when in Falia, may-might i be allowed to pay respects to him? he..you see he died, master. he was hurt by the men who took me and-he just, he wouldn't wake up. the men-they were going to take him and sell him too, but their leader-said he was dead. to leave him. and i forgot..." he dropped his head to his hands, "i truly am a wretched creature. what kind of person forgets the one who gave their life for them?"

He listened intently, memorizing the boy's history, his memory. Tsume had been Leo's friend, best friend if they grew up together. The Falian's face just spoke of pain, guilt, even shame for the lost memory. Elliot nodded when Leo asked to pay his respects to his friend. "You may, yes. However you will need to go alone. Without an alliance or a guide we cannot go past their treeline." And with no open borders, Elliot going in there was practically his own death sentence or a declaration of war, perhaps both. He only prayed there was enough time for him to put up the signs regarding Leonard. "One who was forced to live a different persona. That memory is not Lily's memory but Leo's. It does not make Leo a wretched person, Lily, because you came in to save him from dying." He gently touched the other's hand before sitting back against the door. "You will be all right. We have nearly a month before we reach Falia." We've another day before we reach Loslith, and then we will stay there a week, then another week will be passed to go to Falia." He explained.

Leo dropped his hands and smoothed his face, "i cannot leave your side, master. besides-i do not know where he is buried, i will pay my respects at the edge of the forest." he smiled at the man and nodded, "yes, i understand. thank you for your concern, master. you are very kind." he moved to lean against the master's side, resting his head on the man and placing his hand on his leg. it wasn't in a suggestive place, merely a place that invited the possibility of more. if the master wished to enjoy his services, Leo was prepared to offer them at any time.

Elliot smiled back. "I'm sure Tsume would appreciate your respects regardless of where they are." Elliot never payed respects to his mother, he had only gone to her funeral, and after that the man had avoided her grave like the plague. He was the reason she died, and it hurt, but with Lily leaning against him the prince felt comforted, and her hand was there so he held it. Nothing more, nothing less, just comfort.
