Is it just me, or does this sudden rush of guides highlight a rather serious problem?

There's only one way to do things D: That's no fun.

Occurred to me not long ago, as well. Someone mentioned that the place isn't so difficult, if you have the right strategy - and that's just it, there is a "the right strategy". A lot of players have trouble with the area, not because it's necessarily difficult, but because it's impossible for all-but-one style of play. Either adapt to "the right way", or fail.

To be honest, this is part of the reason I'd like to just level as quickly as I can; so I can stop focusing on grinding, and see if there are any viable alternatives available. However, grinding is such a chore right now, that I have trouble convincing myself it's worthwhile. But that's another problem, entirely... sweatdrop
Based off purplewiz's calculations, I can imagine that the grind is a chore indeed. D:

Wouldn't be quite so bad if it was a chore I could do by myself - however, when you have to invest an absurd amount of time to even muster up the help necessary for you to attempt your chores, they become that much less appealing.

Compacted by the fact that, as you mentioned, there's only one way to play and that it's not a way I necessarily enjoy. All-told, it's a chore I'm not bothering with unless I feel it'll pay off sufficiently - if nothing else, because I'm playing with friends at the time, and can at least enjoy the company... whee

It's nice knowing just how extensive a list of friends truly is at these times.

Everyone's in the same deal with trouble to crew up, so invitations are rolling around like crazy, from people one might have not talked to in months.

With that said, I'm still bleeping CL 10.5... And I spent hours on minecraft instead.

That is fairly interesting, yes - I know I used to get the odd invitation for "smEB" (or "smob", or "smooble" - whatever the kids are calling it, these days) whenever a Crew was having a hard time filling up - but I get handfuls of invitations every day for DMS. Still, I don't wind up accepting most, either. redface

I think I finally hit 10.4, last time I was on - I'm waiting a bit, until my current wave of busyness passes, then hopefully I'll be able to catch up a bit.

As for Minecraft: you could say I've been splitting my time... razz

All I do on minecraft is technically "functional" to a point (Doors on the floorless "second floor" that open/close ad infinitum for no reason of the "WHY IS THIS ROOM SO NOISY" building ARE functional. Well, interactive, at least.) so I'd probably not go around doing something like that myself...

I still am forced to ask where I would go about visiting it, when you start working on it.

And one more thing! scream

Does it seem really odd to anyone else that the devs are censoring DMS content in z!F? That they're asking players to blank out NPC text in screenshots, and such? I've been on sites before that disallowed sharing 'secrets', and I always thought it was... Well, really stupid.

I understand being emphatic about ensuring that spoilers are marked as spoilers, because many players want to experience this naturally - and that's perfectly fine. But trying to limit what they're allowed to say about it completely? Since when does entering an instance equate to an NDA? gonk

Big project; still plenty to do. I just wanted a way to ease myself back into working with Java, and a friend had just been kind enough to buy me a code for it. So it's more about doing it, than about finishing it - but I figured I'd use something I cared about, while I was at it. razz

I'm sure I'll figure out what to do with it all, though, when I get everything stitched together. I've never hosted a server... sweatdrop

I don't think they're being strict about it Red. They just politely asked the users not to ruing the plot they have going down there, and they complied, hiding the content.

If they wanted to say "lolno!", they could have totally done so.

I'm as curious as the next person as to WHY THEHELL IS ALATOR SCREAING STUFF DOWN THERE, and to be frank (not that one) I think I can wait until I get down there myself, or until the answer is his sled.

So that explains the angled tail and the...
Wait... Don't tell me you're... Are you modding... Well are you like, modding the pokemon mod to add OMG's to Minecraft or something like that?
...
I'd install it. Twice.

It's supposedly easy, but I'd not know.
I play on my clan's server, when it bothers working right. Pretty much the only thing I've done on minecraft other than d**k around the nether in creative, and only because the nether lagged the server and was shut down, which I found out by building a portal. Wasted work.
I'd join any other server just fine. Given, uh, it's not one of those d**k servers with either a spawn in the ocean... or a spawn in a protected area with points of interest at least 30 miles away and no way to get there other than walk and being lucky.

If you or I had "politely asked" the same thing, though, "lolno!" is exactly the response we'd have gotten. It's only because the developers hold a position of authority that they've complied, and I feel that enforcing censorship is a misuse of that authority.

But I'm against censorship in general, even if it is under the guise of a 'polite' request from an authority figure. z!F exists for the purpose of sharing information, communicating, and speculating as a community - intentionally disrupting the sharing of ideas seems surprisingly anti-community, as much as I realise it's actually intended to encourage the experience. And the fact that I feel it's encouraging quite a bit of elitism among those 'privileged' to be in-the-know would be entirely indicative of that.

It's not that I want to know, necessarily - it's that I don't believe in privileged information, to begin with. It's less that I feel an unsatisfied desire, and more that I feel denied a right - knowledge isn't something I feel should be isolated to those who have 'earned' it.

But that's just me... sweatdrop

Well, I'm attempting essentially the same thing that the Pokemobs Project is, just for zOMG! - and then I'm hoping to take it a bit further, converting zOMG!'s various areas into 'biomes' for those mobs to spawn in. I got caught up in the modeling, though, because that part's fun - I'll have to get back to doing real work on it, soon. sweatdrop

The only server I've played on is hosted by a friend of mine - the same one who bought the game for me - and only has... 3, maybe 4 of us who use it? He definitely uses Gaia, but he's not particularly interested in zOMG! (those GCDers, you know), so I doubt I could convince him to run something so dedicated to it, himself.

But I could probably convince him to install Rock Puppies on it, when I finish those... xp

Perhaps so. I know where you are coming from, ******** touhou fandom respected the exact same wish from the creator of the series and didn't list any of the several endings for any of the several games anywhere. Big flaw in the wikis and they avidly resisted against change. Problem: Touhou is Japanese, so actually reading the ending is impossible even if you DID earn it. You'll end up seeing a bunch of people having a tea party on pretty much every single game, be forced to assume that defeat means friendship and that's the end of the plot... totally missing out in a lot of subplot, some of it quite important for further games.

Not something that bothers me greatly, all things considered. I'm being specific towards spoilers.
I'm more emotional towards morality based censorship, regardless of also hating it as a whole. Don't know who made the words "taboo" and "controversy", but those are the kinds that irk me with censorship. I can't defend the concept of having the public mentality towards avoiding certain subjects of importance. (Namely with sexuality. Most contributing factor to place us where we are as a species, and most people would rather block stupid retarded myths such as teen rainbow bracelet orgies, giving them credit and the inflated importance of forbidden fruits, then, i don't know, teaching their kids the right way so as to prevent them from getting in a stupid rainbow party to begin with. Or at least leave them far less confused with themselves. People "protect" kids to much.)

I'm not trying to tell you to ignore how you feel about this, but it would be pointless to argue about this to anyone anyways. Give it a week, maybe a bit more, and everyone will be talking about the DMS plot in spades. At least that's how I feel. It's not like my above example where it was a permanent thing. Now THAT one even I was arguing.

I hope you already thought of changing the exp point's color to purple. I thought of orbs when killing zombies without even thinking of something like the kind of stuff you're doing. Seems at bit logical to do that change as well.

May I share this with other people?
I mean just telling them someone is doing this, but not necessarily that it'll happen. I wouldn't even tell them who's doing it. I don't mean to pressure you or expect this to happen. But it's still pretty damned exciting to share this kind of stuff.

I think the colouring on those would be a really simple change, as it's handled by a single image if I recall correctly. I'll admit, though, I hadn't actually considered that - the only time I tend to see those floating orbs is when I stumble across my own corpse (I die more than I kill), and I suspect that makes the connection a little less obvious. sweatdrop

EDIT: Nevermind, no excuse. The things are called "orbs" in the code - I was just being dense. xp

As much as I'd like to "politely request" that you don't, simply for the sake of irony, I really don't have any reason to want to keep you from doing so - especially since you do seem to understand that I have no clue how or if I'll make progress with it. But if the idea excites you, share away... 3nodding

I'd been planning on building a library. One library in particular.

Not sure where I'd fit it, though. I may have to hide it under a desert... User Image

That is the library of Wan Shi Tong, the great knowledge spirit, which was... Inexplicably lost under the Si Wong desert, some time ago. So, yes, absolutely! sweatdrop
