@jc I would start to stalk up on fishing equipment (high quality) and buy an ocean worthy boat. I would also stock up on mechanical engineering books, medical books, and medical supplies, as well as semi automatic weapons and ammo.
I would wait at the beach until the first large panic started which would keep the police far to busy to deal with me and my family. I would then boat to the nearest oil rig and tell them to get off the rig onto my boat and any emergency boats and leave. The reason I would go here is that there are no zombies and no way for the zombies to get to you.
As for my supplies the fishing equipment would be to supply me with food (duh), the engineering books would be so i could fix simple mechanical problems on the rig, the medical books and supplies would be for the minor injuries, the weapons and ammo would be for any random boats that make it out to me during the the weeks after wards. The rig will supply me with crude oil to supply my generators and everything else on the rig. The fishing will keep me alive and you can actually live on fish if you eat the right parts (including the eyes and brain). Hopefully the rig will have radios so I can listen to the world as it is silenced by the zombie horde.
Hopefully after years the world will have made a safe zone or taken back part of the planet close to my rig. After safety is renewed I will held back and help rebuild. If the world never comes back I will stay on the rig till it will no longer stand and then try to find another safe place. (Thanks Yahoo)
