Serenity blinked. "Little brother?" she repeated, clearly puzzled.

Elnara sighed and smiled. Even if Garrick wailed until he lost his voice (which was quite possible, he did not like having his meals interrupted) she was going to have to show him to Serenity to clear things up.

She closed her shirt beneath the blanket, and right away Garrick began his wailing protest, just as she had predicted: ignoring that for the moment, she lifted him carefully so that Serenity and Ian would be able to see him.

"Meet Garrick," she smiled warmly at her daughter and grandson, "your newest little brother. And over with Lore is your newest little sister, Hana."

Thankfully she was still being very quiet, eyes closed once more in sleep, her face pressed against Lore's robes.

Garrick was screaming by now, his face red and scrunched up to show how angry he was at having been interrupted from his meal, and Elnara did her best not to wince as she repositioned him beneath the blanket once more. In a matter of seconds he was feeding again, and his cried were silenced.

"He's going to have quite the temper when he grows up," Elnara murmured softly.

Serenity stepped forward, closer to Lore (she didn't want to risk her little brother's wrath after a taste of how loud he could be) and peered down at Hana, who still hadn't even fidgeted a bit.

"Wow," she murmured softly. "They're ... actually kind of big ..."

Nearly twice Ian's size.

"I always thought natural babies were small," she commented to Lore, puzzled.

Ian pulled on Serenity's pant leg. "Hold me up so I can see, Mom!" he grinned at her. "I want to see them too!"

Elnara smiled. Serenity did have a point - but the Seconds were indeed so much different from a natural baby, their size was only the beginning of the differences.

"You'll see in the next month or two how quickly they grow," she assured Serenity, "though your father's quite right ... even at birth they were nearly twice Ian's size. They've grown quite a bit since then ..."

Serenity blushed hotly and nodded to Lore.

"I always thought they'd be ... a lot smaller," she admitted. "I mean ... to grow inside someone ... and then ... to come out ... the way they do ..."

Then again, it seemed impossible for the human seconds to fit through the necks of their vases, and yet they managed it somehow.

Elnara smiled. "You must also remember, Serenity, that they are elven children ... and bigger than most other races, even at birth. A human child would be far smaller - and an angelic child smaller still."

She nodded at Kara. "For instance, if Kara were to have a child, I'm sure the child would be only perhaps a little more than half Garrick and Hana's size - perhaps no bigger than Ian."

Though even then Lore thought to himself, "The body is capable a lot more than anyone is aware of, that just happens to be one of them."

And the twins were probably a bit smaller than normal elven children being born a slightly be early... being twins and all.

"I wish there was a way we could have shown it, it was an amazing time as they were developing inside," Lore chuckled, "At least now... at the time..."

At the time some of them were ready to go off the wall.

Lore chuckled a bit, but didn't say anything. He looked back at Serenity and Ian.

"How have you been doing?" Lore inquired to Serenity and Ian.

Lore frowned a bit, from the sound of it something obviously happened. Though the thing was, the hesitant nature in Serenity's voice made him worry.

"No.. we just came back," Lore replied, "What happened? Is she alright?"
