I know most of it like hitchen supplies and such arnt bothered by the heat since they are made to withstand that kinda abuse.

But the food items and such, they are what worries me mostly since some of them are canned items and some are in plastice jars and such and it prob. isnt good for them to get hot but they manage to make it threw to the stores.

Hmmm I didn't realize some of the products in the warehouse are foods. I don't leave cans or plastic containers in my car no matter how tired I am or how steep the stairs look. I'm concerned that the container material will leach into the food when it gets too hot. At 100 degrees it's a wonder the containers in the warehouse don't explode.

Some of it is Foods like for the new stores my warehouse/factory supplies the other stuff is usually for like the older stores without the ability to keep food products.

I do agree I would like to know how a lot of it doesnt explode because I am sure it gets hot & cold with the weather and the inside temps. of the warehouse.

It's a mystery. But it's good to know. Now when I'm in a big hurry I can leave some canned food in my car after all.

Yes, but if it is a meat product just look it over and "."Dont eat it if its been extremely hot for over a long period of time

Good thing I'm a strict vegetarian and don't eat meat at all.

It's been probably 10 years since I ate meat. And only that one time. Because old people's feelings were involved. When a sweet old lady makes a corned beef dinner especially for you, it's hard to say no thanks.

Now absolutely nothing will get me to eat meat. It's a health thing. It's an ethical thing. It's a philosophical thing. Ok off my soap box smile

I wonder why canned meat products would have that warning but not other protein products like beans. Do you know?

I not exactly sure, it maybe how they are canned. Meats are canned with more salt so they dont spoil so easily.

But if you get them hot enough the salt evapotaes and is a prime breading ground for nasty stuff.

Canned Vegs. are still canned with salt but less salt, they dont need as much to be preserved as meats in cans, also they are often pre-cooked in the water they come inside of the can to make them last longer as well.

Even with the canning process, time-temperature abuse like that in the warehouse in itself is a terrible breeding ground for microorganisms.
You can't just heat something up to 100F (41-135F is the zone in which pathogens multiply at ease) every day and cool it off every night and expect it to still be safe for consumption.

Thanks for that additional info giesta and jellowind. I guess it all depends on the temperatures at which pathogens multiply vs die. Now I'm curious *runs to look up e. coli and salmonella*

I'll report back when I find out something

Here's some info on reproduction of e. coli, the cootie that caused problems with the spinach recall a while ago, and in the frequent beef recalls:

Optimal growth of E. coli occurs at 37°C (98.6°F) but some laboratory strains can multiply at temperatures of up to 49°C (120.2°F)

So yeah, 100 degrees would just encourage e. coli.

Thanks for the good advice. Gonna smell the contents of cans from now on. I don't like to feel sick.

Something fun to add to the conversation -- e. coli are cute... but deadly
