Pyroth almost tensed up as Emerwyn was startled, unsettling himself as much as his words had unsettled the deer. Apparently having a smoke before a hunt was a bad idea, it not only made him more at ease, it blurred the lines of morality just a touch, leaving the coyote on edge.

He fought back the predatory smirk that threatened to sneak into his expression, the human part of him utterly mortified that he'd even consider it.

Putting up a pleasant facade of normality (as normal as someone almost all coyote could do) he replied.

"I'm good. About as good as anyone can be on this island." he smiled warmly "It's been a while since we last met in the jungle. You've changed since then."

And /how/ she had changed. Every feral nerve in his body was tuned to those ethereal deer-like features, so much more graceful than the short vicious pigs in the jungle.

If only she'd run..he could say he hadn't known.

"Of course, I've changed too, I suppose."

She walked up to him a bit, and found her legs were shaking. She only moved close enough so that he was within earshot over the rippling river.

Run...

"That I have," she smiled back at him, glad that he did. Though, even his warmest smile looked menacing. It was peculiar. He looked far more animal-like than any of the Islanders she'd seen. Had Moreau jumped on his injections?

Her mind was swarming and clashing with frenzied instincts that she tried to fight. She wanted to be his friend. She had said to him before that they could beat this.
So, she tried to make conversation, with the first thing that popped out of her head.
"Odd, the goings on of late. It's frightening to think of."
Brilliant, just brilliant. For all you know, he could be the killer!

Pyroth could actually smell the anxiety on the air. It was a scent he'd never come across before and it was one that seemed to connect with old parts of his brain, instincts he didn't even begin to understand giving him an adrenalin rush and in no uncertain terms telling him to attack, to sink his fangs into that lithe form, destroy all that was beautiful about it. It was the thoughts of neither a human nor a coyote but a dangerous melding of both. Coyotes had no concept of cruelty, humans revelled in it.

The conversation seemed to become in second importance to the tension that hung thick on the air.

"Indeed." he nodded "Though it's more the threat of mass punishment that bothers me than anything else." he didn't want any more pain, not with his arm still bandaged and taking ages to heal even a fraction.

He unknowingly licked his chops like a dog and took a step closer, his ears back along his skull.

"Moreau is a madman, he could make our lives hell"

He was totally oblivious to how mad he looked at that moment.

The fear was building up in her rapidly. A cold sweat appeared on her forehead; her heart beat quickly in her throat.
She was standing before a potential enemy, and was trying to be friendly to it. It seemed too late to run, but at his first move, the deer would bolt. Of course, by that time, would he be too close?

Fear of the punishment. Had he done it? If that was all that concerned him...

Her eyes widened as he moved closer to her; his eyes were menacing.

She tried to nod, but found her body completely frozen.
She tried to speak, "P-pyroth-" but her mouth was completely dry.

Pyroth's world swum, the pot was still making his head content and muzzy, like a dream. If he wanted to, he could just beleive that it was just that, nothing more than a passing concern. Last time he had fought the instincts like a demon, refusing to surrender to them, now he couldn't even tell which thoughts were well judged or sheer instinctual madness.

He could only lose.

He was a coyote at the moment, a coyote with human speech, a resourceful cunning animal that would use whatever methods were open to it for the hunt. Conversation was wonderful, it noticed, nothing else was quite so good at getting prospective prey to hold it's ground.

Gradual steps closed the distance somewhat, moving Pyroth to within snapping distance, his entire demeanour spaced out, eerily calm.

"Yes?" he asked, his tone dripping innocence even as his mind and eyes dwelled on her neck. Only then did he allow himself to smirk.
"Is something the matter?"

Emerwyn tried so hard to see past the coyote that had taken Pyroth captive. Maybe, if she could try and trust him, he wouldn't do anything he may regret later.

The deer was positively shrieking in her head. Technically, she should have been dead by now.

But, she stayed her ground, and tried to speak again.
"Are you... alright? You seem a little... off... somehow..."
It was painfully obvious just what was wrong with him.

Emerwyn's right foot slowly lifted itself and moved back, beginning to poise her body in a manner appropriate for springing away.

Pyroth seemed to lean back slightly and smirk. "A little off?" he chuckled darkly "Must have been something I smoked...or ate." He was riding high on waves of drug induced happiness and his own innate predatory feeling of power. Pyroth under normal circumstances was slightly nervy and awkward, that all changed when he'd had a smoke. He all but bristled, wearing his awkward body as though he'd been like that all his life.

"I'm perfectly fine. More fine than I've been in a very long time."

And then without too much warning, he snapped foward, aiming to sink his fangs into anything he could, his movements a little uncordinated thanks to the drug but definately full of enthusiasm.

Though Emerwyn had been preparing herself for him to do that, she was still caught off-guard, distracted by his unnerving speech.

Still, she avoided him, clumsily, stumbling back, and losing her balance on her awkward feet.

And the deer took over. Quickly, she began to get up, preparing to run, run, run.

Pyroth took a willing backseat to the more experienced instincts of the coyote, scrabbling on the jungle floor and snapping with intent at the air that once housed Em. He knew what he was doing was wrong but for once had said to hell with it, he'd hunted too many pigs and things to fully comprehend what was up with chasing down a fellow islander.

He didn't count on Em having deer instincts in addition to her humanity and anticipated little challenge.

Once Emerwyn had regained her footing, she bolted.
Her legs, now longer, and of quite a different build, carried her far. She started off running along the river, since it was the farthest path from the beast that hunted her.

She had no memory of Pyroth as she ran. He never was Pyroth. He was the predator, and she the prey. Assuming she did not escape him...

Pyroth followed Em without a second's hesitation, his eun a bizzare combination of canine lopes and human leaps. He didn't attempt to close the distance between them yet, merely maintaining a steady pace, grinning as he ran. This time he didn't intend to get tired out, especially not with plenty of numbness in his limbs. The only limiting factor in his pursuit was his injured shoulder which he tended to keep weight off of even if he could barely feel it.

All that mattered was keeping his eyes and nose on his quarry, every sense zeroed in on what was to him in his rush, simply prey.

The deer ran in even strides, Emerwyn being tempted at times to throw herself onto her hands to aid her run. But, she knew that they were not built for that, and she'd only fall.

It was a challenge to keep her breath steady, as the fear consumed her. At least this fear did its job in numbing her senses, preventing her limb from tiring out too quickly.

She took a gradual turn, maintaining distance, but heading now away from the river. She couldn't ahve herself run into a dead end.
In her flight, however, she turned to see the coyote's progress behind her.
*FWAP!*
She ran into a large tree branch, slowing her considerably. It took a couple of seconds to regain her senses before she could take flight again.

Pyroth had been keeping pace for just such an eventuality, used to the jungle's many pitfalls by now, not willing to fall into one himself by going too fast too soon.

His heart raced as she faltered in the face of the tree branch and he leapt into a flat out charge, aiming to leap at the last moment and to go for her shoulder where hopefully he could bring her down.

He didn't even consider the chip in his neck at that moment, too caught up in the attack.

It was an instant of pure terror.

Emerwyn was on the ground, turned toward the monster.
All she could see was fur, and teeth, and hungry, malicious eyes.

There was nowhere to run now. It was over.

Pyroth had barely even moved into the run when the microchip jerked into action. It's effect was immediate, making him tense up in pain, every nerve screaming in protest before it reduced the world to black.

He staggered once with a yelp before falling nose first into the undergrowth, unmoving.
