He was still ahead of the game, still ready to continue on, he was starting to feel a little tired, but he wasn't about to let it get the best of him. He pushed on, letting his mind wander again.

His future? Hm, his future would be his own, that was all he knew. He would become powerful, he would become feared. He would never have to compromise his own desires, never. Those he favored would rise, those he disfavored would fall. Some might call him a selfish child, but then, they were only being ignorant. It was true that he served himself and his own desires above all else, but so did everyone, they just didn't realize it, he, in a strange irony, was just honest with himself about it.

People who claimed to be heroes, they only did so because they wanted to heroes, if they helped people it was because they wanted to help people. They were not selfless, no one truly was. He frowned. Even people who sacrificed themselves weren't selfless... they perhaps, were the most selfish of all.

Xen slowly came to a halt, his breath catching up to him. He gave a warm, unsinister smile. While slightly proud, it was also more pleased. The sun washed over him and he looked up, putting his hands in his pockets. He squinted slightly gazing up into the sky. He let out a long breath as the wind came to cool him down from his heated run. It was like the weather itself was trying to congratulate him.

"Hm, well then...what now...?" he asked no one in particular. the wind giving no answer he turned around, looking back toward the direction of something that had caught his attention while he was on his run. He had been thinking of doing a particular exercise... he nodded. Yes... he started walking off calmly toward the Genjutsu Obstacle course...

The Obstacle course, while clearly marked, didn't look like much of a course at all. It seemed at first to be a mere quarantined off section of woods at the training far southern end, but once inside, it was quite clear he was in the right place....
His sense heightened as the genjutsu closed in around him. Flower petals suddenly began to dance around him, and sleep should've started to tempt him.

But he merely remained neutral, remarking "... Easily done..." suddenly he formed the hand sign, his chakra flowing throw him "Kai."

The Illusion dispersed instantly, his own power forcing it from him like it was an easy task. He lowered his hands 'Hmm, that was it...?' he pushed up his glasses confidently "Heh, Aces..." he moved onward toward the second half of the course...

As Xenon passed through the forest, his eyes dull as the next Genjutsu started to take hold. He sighed. "I suppose I specialize in Genjutsu for a reason... Kai."

The illusion dispersed before it could really even take hold, and Xenon's even walk wasn't even slowed. his golden eyes flickered with a cold precision as he departed through the other side of the course.

He raised an eyebrow "That was it?" he looked around thinking maybe this was a Genjutsu...but no, he was done. he narrowed his gaze slightly.

'Well, it is meant for Students I suppose...but still...' he blinked. 'Well at any rate...it is good practice in breaking Genjutsu, and I suppose if nothing else I should try to learn all I can about my forte...' he turned back toward the course and walked back inside.

Xenon froze, clever, this time the jutsu had caught him off guard, he was pleased to note the course was different whenever you entered. He tried to gather his Chakra for a release but his consciousness wavered slightly, the blossoms starting to eclipse his mind.

But he still forced himself to fight it, forced his mind to keep it at bay, he was Maboroshi, there was no way he'd let a Genjutsu of this level bring him down...

"Kai!" the blossoms were gone, and his body felt awake again. He took a deep breath regaining his full alertness. He shook himself, but he couldn't help but grin at almost being overwhelmed. "Well...," he mused "that was exciting..." he ran a hand through his hair still clearly amused. "Pride cometh before the fall they say...I must remember to keep that in mind..."

He walked toward the next half of the course...

"Kai!"

"Leave him alone." Xenon said, his voice suddenly dangerous.

Takasuki Kendo just glowered at him "Heh! Oh yeah!? Watch ya gonna do about it huh? You gonna fight me! bring it o-" but his voice faltered slightly. His hand almost released the defenseless rabbit. His eyes had met Xenon's, truly looked at them, and fear was now leaking into him. Those weren't the eyes of prey, not the eyes of the boy who didn't fight back...they were...so cold.

"If you don't let him go..." Xenon said heartlessly "I'll...I'll give you nightmares...and you'll never wake up..."

Another of the boys nudged him "Come on Taka he's bluffin! He can't do that! Crush that stupid rabbit!"

But Taka was frozen. "I...I...I can't..." his friend looked at him askance "What!? You turning chicken? Fine, I'll do it." He grabbed for the rabbit.

"I WARNED YOU!!!" Xenon screamed.

The String had somehow found it's way into his hands. Genjutsu, despite being his specialty, always seemed to have a way of bringing up old memories... memories that while he acknowledged, he preferred to forget... the very first time he used his power...

"I WARNED YOU!!!"

He nearly skipped an x in the cradle, but his mind quickly compensated. He was now walking away from the Genjutsu course, his face almost completely calm. Almost. His eyes were staring forward a bit to harshly.

He was now leaning against a post of the training field, his thoughts still spinning about his head.

He berated himself. He had no qualms with his past, he knew this...then why...

The boy's eyes were hollow, as though the soul had been sucked right out of him. The screams had finally sto-

He shook off the memory, focusing his thoughts on the now. Why did it dog him so...

He realized it after only a few moments consideration. He was still a child after all. For all his revelations, for all his truth... he was still a child. He could reason it out all he wanted, but he was still a 13 year old boy deep down... He sighed slightly ashamed with himself.

No, it couldn't be helped. There was no way around immaturity accept to grow up... and that would all come with time. For now, he would simply do the best he could, he expected no more from himself than that.

The sun was approaching it's nighest point, and noon was just around the corner, while Xen sat fiddling with his mental exercise. As his fingers dashed back and forth cradling the string at a well practiced pace, his own mind was, as usual, on other matters.

He had pushed aside the recent influx of memories. The now was more important than the past, it was merely a reference to the present. He needed to learn the three academy jutsu, Henge, Bushin, and Substitution... he knew who to talk to... but now he'd lost track of him... he smiled somewhat. Still, it wasn't like he didn't think he could track him down.... it was more... a test...

He suspected, that is, that the one to teach him would seek him out. If he did not, by at least the end of the day, he would seek him, but then... he had a strong feeling he was correct.

He sat there, continuing to fiddle with the string. Now deciding what to do while he waited. Not knowing he would have to wait long, and knowing he would probably need his chakra for later, he instead decided to try again to improve his physical strength... after all... as he'd made clear before, he'd no intention of letting his weakness stand. Still, he'd finish this round of cradle first, he may have disregarded most of his parents foolish sympathies, but finish what you start was at least one he agreed with...

Xen realized in a start that he was humming. It actually took him a moment to realize what the tune was. He smiled...then it split into a full on smirk. "Heh..." He looked up at the sky, the sun reflecting off his glasses.

The night had come, and Xen sat huddled in bed ready for his story.

"Did you brush your teeth?" His mother asked suspiciously.

"Y-yeah." Xen said unconvincingly.

His mother poked his fore head "Your not a very good liar Xen."

"Mooooom, can I have my story first, pleeeeeease? I wanna know about the hymn of the imetal warrior."

His mother laughed "The what? The Hymn of the Immortal warrior?"

"Yeah!" Xen said with wide smile "just like in this book."

His mother took the book from him. She gave him an accusatory look, tickling him and causing him to giggle "You've been in your Father's library again haven't you."

He twiddled his thumbs "Maybe..." he said with a shy grin.

She sighed "I'll sing it for you when your older and can understand what it means."

"Awwwww."

"Now go brush your teeth."

Xen continued to hum the Hymn, a strange little smile on his face that it was unclear whether he was aware of or not. He finally ran up the post he'd been leaning on and the game of string finished, he put it away. He was now seated atop the post, his expression dull again. He supposed he should start strength training... there really was no point in resting, he didn't feel tired at all, despite his run from earlier.

He, rose, standing atop the post. Removing his coat he tossed it atop another post nearby the very same it had rested on the night before. He about faced, and was, in fact, at the very same cluster he'd worked at earlier. He clapped his hands together, and took a deep breath.

He fell Forward andcaught himself, taking the position for pushups and, his muscles seeming to recall their labor from the night before, he worked his way through first set with relative ease.

He then remembered he forgot to remove his glasses. He pushed hard and came back into a standing position. He jumped down, off the posts and folded his precious specs, placing them securely in his coat.

He did not infact, need his glasses to see. They didn't even have a real prescription, nor even did he wear for some pointless reason like "They looked cool." No, his reason was far more personal. Glasses held a special significance to him, not that pair in particular, but glasses in general. He would always wear a pair if he could help it, but, he didn't want this pair damaged, so he'd do this without them.

He'd already resumed push up position, and started the next set.

9...1- his hand slipped and he fell. He swore as he hit the ground, he opened an eye as he rose, brushing dirt from the other. Well...it seemed it was a goo thing he removed his glasses. He spat dust from his mouth and got back to his feet.He turned back toward his starting post.

Like hell he was going to fail now, he'd already done ten successful sets, he wouldn't count that one, he wouldn't consider his training finished until he'd done ten unbroken sets, 100 pushups, whether his body liked it or not.
