Caroline listens more or less patiently to the clerk who'd come by to her wagon. Except one thing just niggles at her. "Hotels license? I've got a wagon, what the bloody hell would I need a hotels license for?"Rojiza giggles. She thinks they should buy magic insurance."But I s'pose we ought to get sommat. Ye said...specialty items? Mayhap. Think I'll decide on that when I come to't. Gambling?" Caroline's eyes twinkle. The thought of winning more couplets definitely appeals. "Right, just incase. And....anything you can think of, Ro?"Ro nods. She holds up seven furry fingers, then five. The magic insurance had cost 75 couplets, right?"Right, well, we'll take the gambling license and whotever cost 75 couplets." She nods once, businesslike.purchases, yo Gambling License: 50 Magic Insurance: 75 Total: 125 This from Caroline's 215. xp Ro still has her Banya-dropped secret 200.

Irina, who had felt fine most of the journey, had been starting to feel queasy, and the baby had begun kicking, seemingly annoyed with the motion of the water. She was pleased when the ferry came to a halt, and as they prepared to enter the Isle, she heard a dockmaster begin to speak. She listened intently, debating her options, jingling couplets in the leather pouch around her waist. She had -some- money, but she could have more... It's too bad that they were selling so many things already! What could the rest of the Isle have in store?Kalpana, who had been sitting on the seat next to her mother, giggled as the dockmaster spoke to them. To her, he had a booming, resounding voice, and it seemed as if it pleased her greatly.Meanwhile, Eerie slept in the back of the wagon, unknowing of the action around them. He was a heavy sleeper, and barely woke for anything but his mother, who had to pick him up to get him to rouse. He snored a little as he did so, hands twitching as if he were running in his dreams, still a goat.As the dockmaster walked by Irina's wagon, she called out to him. "Sir, I'd like to purchase some Licenses please." What Irina's buying Gambling License - 50 Specialty Items License - 45 95 total out of 170 = 75 left

*oh dear*, thought Tamlin as she recalled her nigh empty purse,
"i do have a wagon to stay in, so the hotels license is superfluous, but the trading and special items license could be useful. i wonder if it requires a license to perform... i could make some couplets of of that." she spoke to no one in particular.

Zack looked across the caravans from where he was walking next to the oxen that pull his temporary home. Hearing some bustle about money he thrusts his hands into his pockets and stares fixadly at the ground. He walks past customs chewing the scabs in his cheek absentmindedly. "Iffin they didn't say it th-then you don't need it" he said to the gypsy in front of him who was fiddling with a small purse, she seemed flustered, or at least her feet did.

Their money pouch held little at the moment. It was light on his belt as he stood by Dan and Pearl, their horse and mule team that pulled Wind Wheels.
Thuban looked at Altaira, who shrugged and went back to absently stroking Sindri while she jotted down something in her notebook. The older brother sighed and waited his turn to buy licenses. Or rather license.
"Well take a Temporary Sale License, please." Maybe they could find a place to barter off that pretty Mountainglass Flask his sister had this trip. Neither really paid it much heed, except that one time when Sindri had held it 'hostage' on top of the cart until they'd let him have more cream.
((That's 50 out of my 110, so I'm down to 60 couplets))

Tamlin looked over the man ho had recently joined the caravan under rather unusual circumstances, and noticed he was avoiding the passes as much as she was.
"aside from the nasty beating ye took it appears our states in this caravan are rather similar, would you care to wander and look for entertainments of which do not require excessive couplets?"
"oh, I'm Tamlin by the way, we met when you was brought into the caravan but, given your... entrance... i doubt you were in th' mood for collecting names."

"Nicetameetcha m' Zak" his face colored behind the freckles at the suppressed memory of whatever the hell he did to convince them to patch him up. "per-so-nal injeery in-surrants" he read off the board haltingly in an effort to distract this conversation. I don't even know what that is and I still don't want any, funny thing gypsies getting bilked for once. better not say that., he thought "ifin there even is free stuff to do here" he said "be center of town maybe?"occ: dammit I broke character here, Zak can't read at all. Tamlin smiled to try and reassure the poor boy, although what he was so flustered about she wasn't too sure of. she assumed he was just unused to being in a new place.
"the pleasure is all mine Zak. and don't worry about being in a new city, if we wander together nothing should go wrong," she placed her hand on his shoulder to calm him. "and besides, the caravan takes good care of its members."
"why don't we follow some others towards a more populated area, mayhap a few of the caravan have been here afore. there is always free stuff in towns, unless they have started charging to talk to people."

X-Men Lover DeArca was stunned that so many licenses were needed to do things on this island and it seemed that purchasing them would deplete him of all his money. Oh well, if one needs access to things, he must make the sacrifice for it. Luckily the money Axel had created was well needed for a case like this. "Excuse me sir. Could I perhaps buy the follorwing?" Specialty License - 45 Personal Insurance - 80 Total - 125 (My Banya Fortune should cover the first license ans the rest should cover the second...I think?) "And could you tell me where I can camp out my wagon, please? The dockmaster before DeArca stamped out the license form and the insurance sheet and handed them over. "The wagon can not be camped on the beach, but you and your caravan can go up the boardwalk for mooring."

The dockmaster raised an eyebrow, but didn't comment on Caroline's cheekiness. Instead, he stamped the two documents and handed them over, the magic insurance glistening on a gold piece of paper that was almost too flimsy to hold onto. He also handed over three blue, round chits. They seemed to be made of wood, polished and smooth with their blue stain. "Those are your complimentary gambling chits. At the top of the boardwalk there is a map of the casinos and the hotels. Enjoy your stay here on Nereid Isle."

He stamped the temporary sale license and handed it over... directly to the 'source'.

((I can't find my notebook right now, but I'll post the map/some boardwalk information tomorrow night after work, even if I have to rewrite it.))
At the edge of the docks, there is a booth on the sand. A little beyond that, there is a blanket spread out.
From the booth, a voice calls out. "A game, a game of riddles and skills... free to play, large to win! Step up step up step up..."
From the blanket: "Not with that fellow... I do no business with folks who play with that fellow." (Twas his half-sister's husband, you see, and they've not spoken for many a year, not since the candlesticks he gave at their nuptials- fine mining work, that, found their way to a street vendor. Booth Man said they were different, and theirs were lost a ways back... but Blanket Man knows. He knows all.) "Step right up, put a little chance, put a little chance, win a marvelous, marvelous prize."
Where shall ye play? Or shall ye? Both are free.

Tamlin's ears pricked up at the word free and prize. she looked over at Zak
"well free with a chance of earning something good sound like a good way to start the visit at this here isle. I'm gonna go try my luck at this game hun, you are welcome to join me or try your luck else where."
With that she bounded off towards the booth promising games and riddles.
"free you say! ill try my luck, and just what is this large win you speak of?"

[lulz blanketman]
Caroline nods her thanks to the harbormaster and directs poor, seasick Cornelius up the docks toward terra firma. She looks at the little blue circles in her hand. She tucks them into a hidden pocket in her skirt. She hears the voices of the two men and her attention is...piqued. She decides on the game of chance. She likes chance. "I'll have a go," she announces to Blanket Man. "How am I t'be playin'?"
Ro watches her mother for a bit, staying with Cornelius. She'd investigate the riddling man in the booth once Mother had won or lost. Come back. Whatever. She keeps an eye on the redheaded gypsy currently speaking with Booth Man.
