Rainer paused next to Isaac. She was to be someone's superior? A grin slowly spread across her face. Now this was going to be good. Miles and miles away, the headmaster of Esthar Garden had a forboding feeling about Rainer. He grimaced slightly and sat down, the feeling being slightly overwhelming. Here in Deling, Rainer's smile lit up her face in ecstasy. "Well then," Rainer said. "This is going to be quite interesting. Why don't you go freshen upstairs? We can all go out and have some fun." Rainer turned to Isaac, grinning. "How does that sound, Sir?"

Isaac paused and scratched his cheek, looking up at Rainer. "Umm.... Okay, I guess." He looked at her more closely, "What are you thinking?" "She's probably got some crazy thought... Like she just gained a new personal slave or something..."

Rainer cocked her head to the side, grinning at Isaac. "What am I thinking?" Taking on a mock hurt expression and tone, Rainer continued. "Do you think I'm taking to this new... ah, development strangely? I'm not!" She shook her head in denial. "I just have someone to boss... Um, talk to now. You know how that is, right?" Shrugging her shoulders, Rainer continued. "Once Miss, ah, Beatriz freshens up in my room, we can go to the clock tower or see the old Caraway Mansion or something. We can even go train in the sewers!" Chuckling slightly, Rainer shrugged. "Whatever you want to do, we can do. I'm sure we can even get the bartender downstairs to get you two a drink."

Isaac smiled, "We need to work on your lying. That was terrible. And you're really set on the alcohol, aren't you?" ”I really don’t like alcohol anyway. It tastes so weird…” “I don’t believe I’ve ever been to Deling before. So why don’t you pick?”

Hearing James comment on her identity, Mimi gave a small smile as he leaned against the brick wall. "You seem to do a lot of research on members not of your own garden." She laughed, dismissing the serious tone that had lined her comment. As he turned to glance at the city, she followed his gaze. The lights of the city were bright in the star-lit night.
For a long time, Deling had not had the peace that was blessing it on this night. She remembered reading the history of the town. Somewhere in those history books, many of them which Mimi had a hard time accepting as fact, it had stated that Squall Leonheart, one of Ultimecia's conquerors, had first dispatched from Deling bay for a SeeD mission. Something about fighting some giant mechanical spider was in the book, but Mimi wasn't quite sure. That was quite a while ago, when . . . well, she couldn't quite remember who read it to her.
Turning to glance back at the man, Mimi smiled, as though weary. "Of course I love my last name. Especially seeing as it always seems to precede me." Hearing his question. Mimi laughed. "What brought me here? Well, direct orders from Balamb Garden's Headmaster himself, of course. Just cause' he's the late descendent of Cid, he . . . " she stopped, ready to comment on her headmaster's attitude. "Well, that might be getting a little too personal there. He's a good man, really. Not much older than myself, not much younger than you. But he said the matter was urgent, and that he needed yourself and the others from Esthar Garden as soon as possible. Seeing as Balamb was a mobile garden for quite some time, it would have been difficult to find." She paused, and another smile stretched across her lips. "Thanks for keeping that secret by the way."
She turned to look back over the city, and slowly, her eyes drifted towards the sky. A large firey object was drifting down from the sky. Mimi's eyes creased and she leaned over the brick railing. "What the . . .?" The object picked up speed and Mimi stepped back from the archway's railing. "It's a missile!" Just as the words left her lips, the missile crashed near Deling's dock and there was a blast as shockwaves swept through the city. As if delayed, shouts suddenly could be heard from those strolling Deling's streets. Glancing over at James, Mimi made her way towards the ladder. "We have to find your team members, and get word the Balamb Garden. We're going to need a SeeD dispatch right now!" She slid down the ladder, not bothering to use the railing's as she waited for James, pulling a com unit from the belt of her shorts.

"Well damn." James said to himself as he saw the missile and felt the explosion. Despite all the commotion, he was still bizarrely calm. So, he headed toward the latter and slid down it, "My squad should be pretty close to the hotel still. If we split up we can probably move faster. If there's any problems, send up a flare of some kind, whether it be spell or not. I'll find you and help."
Before waiting for another word, James was off running. People throughout the city were scattering, running in every direction. All of the yelling was deafening, so much so that it was almost impossible for anyone to concentrate and retain order. Guards poured into Deling City to try to calm the people, but to no avail. Just as quickly as the guards poured in, so did members of the Galbadian Army. But why would they attack Deling City?
It was all information that he would have to process at another time. Darting through crowds, doing his best to avoid much contact with the civilians, James continued to move toward the hotel. It would probably be the Galbadian's first strike point, considering how large it was. Lots of people to take prisoner there, a lot of people to force to work. Rainer and Isaac could take care of themselves, but James still worried.
I knew I shouldn't have left my blade in the hotel room. James thought to himself, heading down an alley way to avoid confrontation with the opposing soldiers, This is going to make things much more difficult.

Mimi nodded. "Of course." As she watched James leave, she flipped open the com unit and dialed the server for the Headmaster's office. The image on the small screen of the unit was blurred until it finally focused on the headmaster's image. Mimi, efficient as always, spoke while she walked back towards the vehicle she had brought with her.
The headmaster, most likely hearing all the commotion from her end of the unit, appeared distraught. "Mimi?!? What in Ifrit's name is going on over there?" Mimi dodged a number of running citizens as she spoke. "I believe the Galbadian's have attacked Deling sir. They just sent a missile into the dock area. And . . ." She glanced up and saw a number of Galbadian vehicles pull into the road. "They've sent their soldiers as well."
Headmaster Cid cursed vibrantly before turning to her. "Bring the Esthar SeeD members back ASAP, you hear me? I'll send you a SeeD unit this minute to clear out the Galbadians. I want you to avoid fighting anybody at all costs, you hear me?" Mimi nodded and sighed.
"I know, I know. I heard you the first time. Bring Esthar members back ASAP. But don't think I'm not going to fight if they confront me." With that, she snapped shut the com unit and pulled out the key to the vehicle. Slipping in, she threw the com unit onto one of the passenger seats and slipped into the driver's unit. She pressed down on the cluth and shifted, tearing down the street towards Deling's only hotel. As she tore through the streets, neatly avoiding a number of evacuating citizens, she came to an abrupt stop right in front of the hotel doors.
Pulling the key from the ignition, she walked back into the passenger compartment, yanked her sword from the closet, and stepped out of the vehicle. She slammed the door shut and strolled towards the hotel. Just as she reached the spinning doors, a Galbadian vehicle reached her. As about four soldiers streamed from the vehicle, Mimi sighed.
Their guns were aimed at her and one of them pulled the visor of his helmet up. "Throw us your weapon, now! Or we'll shoot!" A slight twinge of humor swept through Mimi as she laughed.
"I'm sorry, did you just say throw you my weapon?" She glanced at the rather large, and rather heavy blade that she had set on her shoulder. Shakking her head for a moment, she glanced straight at the Galbadian man that had stared at her. "Very well."
Quite suddenly, she had swung the blade in front of her and just as it came level with the nearest soldier, she pulled a trigger on it's hilt and the blade detached from it's handle, connected only by a thin but sturdy chain. The blunt edge of the blade collided with the four men, dragging them all down into a pile. Due to it's size, the sword had clearly knocked the wind out of them. Snapping her wrist, the blade of the sword flew back and clicked back into the hilt. Somewhat annoyed at being delayed, Mimi left the men where the were and strolled into the hotel, hoping to find the others.

Eyes twinkling merrily, Rainer opened her mouth to reply when she felt the explosion. The whole hotel vibrated; people screamed and hit the floor. Leaning a bit on Isaac for support, Rainer pushed away and headed for the stairs. That explosion sounded like trouble, and she had to be ready. Taking the stairs two at a time, she flew up the stairs to the fifth floor and barged into her room, door slamming behind him. She fumbled at her desk, pulling open the drawer and pulling out her gunblade. Rainer buckled it to her belt and flew back down the stairs. Arriving next to Isaac and Beatriz, she gasped, "We need to get out of here. There's trouble; I know it. We have to find James!"

Isaac didn't need to run for his sword, he hadn't even brought it at all anyway. His knives would do. "That's great, but I think that first we should worry about that woman with the rather brutish sword. She looks more or less a little flustered." "Duh there's trouble!" Isaac screamed in his head, "Explosions just don't happen!"

James barged into the hotel, almost knocking Mimi down as he did. Luckily, despite all the commotion, Rainer, Isaac, and by the look of it a new girl, were all still right in the hotel lobby. He stopped in front of the small group, panting slightly from all of his running. He had done quite a bit of that to avoid all the Galbadian Soldiers in the area.
James finally spoke after bringing up the new girl's file in his mind so that he could attach a name to her, "Isaac, Rainer, Beatriz, regardless of rank I ask that you, for now, look to Mimi as your superior." He pointed to Mimi, the flustered girl, "She is the messenger from Balamb Garden. She will be able to lead you to way out of here. I will catch up and meet you at the city gates. I'll be needed here to drive out the Galbadians."
Turning to Mimi James said, "Please explain to them as quickly as you can. They need to know what's going on so that they can fight effectively. From there, just get the hell out of here."
Again without waiting for a reply, something James seemed to be very good at in situations like this, he was off again. He was hoping that Rainer would have the brain to do as she was asked, although considering the situation the doubt in his mind was minimal. He hadn't supervised either Isaac or Beatriz though, and so they worried him slightly. It would be interesting to see who got to the city gates first, was the thought that crossed James's mind as he headed for the stares of the hotel.
He had to have his weaponry, of course, and it was all in his room. Dashing up the stairs in sets of three, he quickly made it to the top floor. Soldiers had already flooded into the hotel using the Fire Escapes, so it turned out to be much harder. Several of the soldiers saw James and moved in his direction, but James plowed through them. There wasn't anything else he could. He smashed into the first using his full body wait, knocking the man down. Luckily, the first man fell into the other two. James was conveniently able to jump right over them.
When James finally made it to his room, he accidentally ran straight through the door leaving a human shaped form in it. He didn't have time to stop and think; he had to gather his things and move out as quickly as he possibly could. So he grabbed his sword, he grabbed his jacket, and away he went. He tried to turn back toward the hallway, but soldiers had already taken the upper floors of the hotel. So, he leaped through the window and made his way down the fire escape.

Rainer opened her mouth to say something but James was already gone. She looked to the new girl, Mimi, as James had called her. Pulling out her gunblade, Rainer rushed up to Mimi, wishing James hadn't told her to listen. Although she recognized the situation at hand, Rainer didn't want to have yet another superior. "So what now?" Rainer asked Mimi. "Where's that damn garden?" At that moment, Galbadian soldiers swarmed through the stairs and the doors, pointing their guns at the small group of four. Rainer scowled and looked at Mimi again, gripping her blade so tightly her knuckles turned white. "Well?"

Isaac wasn't surprised at the way James acted. He had always thought A ranks would know what to do even if they had never seen anything like it before. Disregarding the Galbadian soldiers for the moment, Isaac whispered to Rainer, "Calm down. Give her a chance to speak." But he turned suddenly and whipped several knives from his leg pouch at the soldiers. "But shall we take care of this for the moment?"

Rainer didn't even need to reply. In an instant, she was sweeping her sweord in an arc, squeezing the trigger and letting bullets whizz through the air toward the soldiers. Angry, the soldiers started pointing their guns and shooting, some casting basic magic spells like Fire, Blizzard and Thunder. Rainer's clothing absorbed some of the damage, but most of it got into contact with her skin. I need armor, she thought exasperatedly. Rainer sliced through the air, cutting through a few soldiers. More filled their place. Cursing, Rainer put her blade down and cast Blizzard on two or three soldiers. She continued to slice at the offending soldiers, receiving bullets and burns.

Isaac started to deflect several hits for Rainer, he himself had yet to take a psychical hit and had only received two blizzard hits. He was moving all over the place. "Move around ya' idiot. Stationary is too easy!" He shouted as he sent a kunai into the barrel of one of the guns, watching it explode in the soldier's face.

Mimi was about to snap at the other girl under the situation, but just as she opened her mouth to speak, the Galbadian's had arrived. With a shout of frustration, she whipped out her blade from behind her and slashed out at the nearest man. Glancing outside, she saw that the vehicle she had brought was clear. The armor shields protecting it made up her mind for her.
Slashing down on a man, she cursed as a fire spell just brushed past her left cheek. Glancing around, she saw the man about fifteen feet away. She flung her sword out and pulled the trigger. The blade went flying, and rather than the blunt side hitting the man, the edge of the blade sliced into his side. Trying to ignore the blood, Mimi snapped the blade back into place.
She was certain that the woman who had addressed her would not want to be under the command of a younger individual . . . again. With a snort, more to herself than anything, Mimi thought silently. Well, she's gotta' deal with it. I don't like it any better. Clearing a way towards the vehicle, she pulled the keys from her pocket without stopping her attacks. Turning around towards the others, she shouted: "Everyone! Get to the vehicle! Now! We don't have time for this! The Headmaster of Balamb's ordered us back straight away."
Clearing yet another path, she reached the spinning doors of the hotel. With a frustrated shout, she jammed the sword into the door and slashed at the pole holding it together. With a clang, the glass panels fell to the ground and shattered, leaving just a golden pole. She made her way to the vehicle and pressed the key into the door, unlocking. From there, she stood defending the transport, waiting for the other's to get in.
