You stalk into the blackened waters, and make your way into the ruined building around which they seem to center.
Inside, you find the walls covered in strange glowing inscriptions, written in an archaic form of demonic script. It is hard to make out, but the word for "transformation" or something close to that meaning appears frequently.
Sitting on the water, floating magically rather than sinking, are four bound humans. Well, sort of human... Patches of heavy scales are starting to form on their skin, and you can distinctly make out gills on their necks. They are bound with magical chains that appear to place them into a paralyzed state.

(ever see the movie Beastmaster! like the eal that makes the people change... that was cool!)

The chains shatter under your attack.
After you free the four, it takes them a moment to gain some sort of composure. After looking at you and realizing that you are not demons, the one you assume to be the leader looks at himself.
"You got me not too far along, eh?" he says with a nervous chuckle. He stands, stretching what must be a very sore body from the metamorphasis that had been forced upon it. "Downright impolite of those demons, I'd say chaps?"
He sighs, and looks at his fingers, which had already started to web together.
"Well, I guess I must thank you for stopping the transformation. Would have been downright bad for us if you had come along much later."
More nervous chuckling. In addition to being sore, he seems to take his transformation as a hit to his pride. He looks down in the water, then back up at you.
"So, what is your expedition coming to this forsaken place for? I'm thinking we're well enough to show these demons what we humans think about their pressgang tactics, but certainly no adventurers, least of all us, are above lending a helping hand to their rescuers."

"Well we are in search of a ship, not to ravaged by the coast. We have need to travel across long distances, and no vessel will leave with all the demons about. If we weren't so poor, we could buy a boat, but hey, were adventurers. Where the fun in that? So anyway we showed up here and saw you and decided to save you while we could!"
Gerbo then smiled.
"If your offerening your assistance, a few hardened warriors could be of some help! Though if you are tired and fatuiged from the transformation though, you should go back to town and see if the temple healers can help with your current condition. Though if you think you can stand up to the demons with the help of a few hardy adventurers, then feel free to join up with us! We could always use an extra blade... or claw i guess in this situation."

"Perhaps both blade and claw. My finger nails may have grown to be quite nasty, but I can still grip my rapier just fine. What are you getting the ship for? We came here to see what the demons were up to in the flooded areas underneath the city, but bit off more than we could chew. I suppose we could lend you a hand in stealing one of their ships; we've saw them bringing a few in and unloading cargo from them into the tunnels underneath the city."

"Then by chance, would you need us to make a "distraction" so you can do this? we can assualt whatever guards might be there, giving you enough time to take the ship and prepare it for launch. Then after we kill all the beasties, we can hop aboard and hopefully be far away before the renforcements come to see whats up. Sound like a plan then.. umm.. what did you say your name was again?"

Have they only been capturing merchant vessels, or are there some combat ready ships we can choos from?
